Official 2015 Disney Marathon Thread

I got a call from my doctor this evening telling me that there is no way that I can do the half marathon next month.

Sorry to hear this - sending pixie dust for your improved health. :wizard:

It's not ideal, but it shouldn't have too much of a negative impact on you. Once you get your 20 in, your physical fitness is pretty much set for the race. I'd try to sneak in another few days if you can just to keep your legs fresh and moving.

Thx a mint for your feedback, FFigawi...much appreciated.

cheers,
:)

Trust your training and have fun! As long as you have time, stop for pictures. The costume watching was probably my favorite part of my first Disney race!

(Quote, but didn't keep) Definitely echo disneyhorselover's advice to trust your training and have fun! My other piece of advice would be to run your own race - it's super easy to get caught up in the excitement of everything around you and start too fast. Stick with your pace and your plan from the beginning so you don't run out of gas at the end. :) You're going to love it!

Thanks!! I'm super excited and will probably start off too fast because of the excitement. I'll have to keep that in mind! :)

Will there be any left for us back-of-the-packers, and do I have to say "FFigawi told me I can have one?" ;)

And I will be happy to supply a 12 pack of Sam Adams for me and 11 of my closest new friend runners if FFigawi's friends will keep it in the cooler. I'm staying at Boardwalk. :thumbsup2

I can't guarantee how long they'll be out there, but if they are there, they'll be by the pool right near the path we run along. If you see them, tell them I sent you and I'm sure they'll give you one. I hope to finish in 4-415, so I'll try to be out there for the tail-enders too. :)

That can probably be arranged. We can set that up once we're all there.

My Tower of Terror time bumped me up to corral "L" for the 1/2 and I'm so elated about that, since K or L was my target. I was dancing around the office about it yesterday, and to say people gave me curious looks would be an understatement.

Now I just need to find a good pair of running capris/pants. I'm local, and I went for a run yesterday AM, and it was COLD in shorts. I wanna be ready, since January weather is a fickle beast.

I think we were pretty close on the Tower run so I am glad to hear that I could have been further up than P if I was only doing the half but I am back in N for the projected full time.

So, is it time to start a prayer dance to the Disney weather tiki gods to keep it nice and cool that morning? :goodvibes

:dance3: <- weather prayer dance for 40-55 degree weather!

I am on the opposite side of this. Since most of the training has been done in the heat and humidity I would like it to a little warmer than 40 to 50 :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:

I'm also in South Florida so in 2013 when the high marathon day got up in the 80+ range I handled it much better than runners from up north who may not have seen 80 degrees for several months. However as good as it is to know if it gets hot you've got an edge it's always better to have cooler temperatures, maybe not 2010 Disney on ice temperatures of 28 degrees but everything from 40 degrees to 55 is tolerable as long as it's dry.I think last year the high was 68-70 with the low around 50,definitely good weather for the race but even a bit cooler is fine with me.I'm still trying to figure out what to wear for both Goofy races so I'm waiting to get closer to see what weather we get and if I have to go out and buy some new gear.

All of my training has been done in heat and humidity up until the past few weeks when it starting getting down to 65-70 at night. That's why I'm hoping for cool weather. It'll take far less effort to run at race pace if it's in the 40s than it does over here in the 70s. We did the same thing a few years ago - trained all summer in Doha and ran a marathon in Dublin in October. 80 when we left, 42 in Dublin, and everyone set a PR by at least 10 minutes.

I'm still trying to figure out what to wear for both Goofy races so I'm waiting to get closer to see what weather we get and if I have to go out and buy some new gear.

As long as it's not raining or a repeat of Disney on Ice, I'm okay for gear. All of my cold weather and inclement weather running clothes are in storage with the exception of a few long sleeve tops. I really don't want to have to buy a bunch of new stuff (jackets, etc.) that will just duplicate everything that's in a box somewhere.

I was thinking of this weather discussion yesterday out on my run...8 miles in 40 degree, overcast but dry. It is ideal running weather for New England in December, but my problem is that I'm gonna be incredibly disappointed if I have to bring my underarmor cold gear running clothes to Florida! (And it will potentially interfere with my costume...) Just 10-15 degrees higher, please! (Besides, the beer will taste better if it's warmer outside, haha)

:cool1::cool1: Awesome!! I arrive on Friday with an open day, minus the expo so whatever will work for your schedules.

I'm hoping for 60's ... And I agree the beer is better if it's a little warmer out

Hi, Mouseketeers! My wife and I are following the RunDisney Galloway training plans on rundisney.com. This Saturday is our last looooooooooong run of 26 miles. However, my wife seems to have contracted the Plague that's going around our kids' school, so we're not sure she'll be up to 26 miles.

While I'm hoping she'll bounce back, I'd like some advice. If she has to skip this Saturday, does she just miss this long run, and do the 6 or 7 miles scheduled for next weekend? I don't think we want to try 26 next week, because that only leaves a 2-week taper, and we'll want all 3 weeks. Will she be okay with effectively having a 6-week "taper" since our 23-mile run?

I'm so jazzed about Marathon Weekend!!!!

Doug

Take this with a big grain of salt as it's likely to change several times between now and January 8th but this was one forecast at a month out earlier this week... ;):rolleyes1

If it were me in that situation, that's what I would do. I hope she feels better soon! Good luck to you this weekend.

I would be happy with anywhere from high 50s to low 70s.
me, too! And if we get to make requests I want sunny 70's on Sunday afternoon and Monday. Am I asking too much?:confused3:rotfl::confused3:rotfl:

Ditto this. If she has a 23 miler under her belt I think rest is a much better option than trying to run sick. Healthy at the start line is a good goal!:cool1:
