OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Okay I have to ask...is Steve a LEO?? I just ask because of the 10-19 code. :goodvibes

I just delved into the world of GPS's with the Nike Sportwatch. Used it for the first time Saturday and LOVE it! :yay::love: I know it's a baby watch for all you hi-tech runners out there, but it works for those of us who, let's just say, tend to get into knock-down dragouts with certain technological advances...:headache:

I agree that it felt like you ran through every pathway in WWoS but I actually enjoyed having an extra venue to run through, especially after the long, boring straight shot on Osceola pkway after AK,I also like running through the baseball stadium. In the old route the only positive compared to the new one is running through Epcot before sunrise.

Same as last year, you don't go into Epcot in the beginning and do WWoS after mile 17 through mile 20.

Maybe I am one of the few, I would rather run the old course. I actually like the surreal run through Epcot with the Spaceship Earth shrouded in a surreal fog. The old out and back kind of stunk, but overall I liked the old course a little better.

I'm with Charles. I loved running around World Showcase in the dark with the fire torches lighting your way. It was so peaceful and serene, a good way to collect your thoughts and get ready for the rest of the race ahead. Plus, it offered a better chance of riding the Everest coaster. :thumbsup2

Agree!

I too am upset that they are keeping last year's course. I was only going to do the run if they switched back to previous course, but decided I had to do Dopey this year.

The lack of Epcot in the morning, hitting MK so early, hitting AK at the halfway point, instead of mile 18, the endlessness of WWOS. And also, for Goofy runners, the fact that the first 8 miles are identical to the previous day makes it tougher mentally. Hopefully they switch back in the future.

Not doubting you, just curious where you found/saw/heard that?

It certainly works better for us this year, but we're trying to arrange my mother to take my daughter to My Princess Tea Party at Grand Floridian. If MK is as early as it was last year, it certainly makes her getting there alot easier.

Magic Kingdom before sunrise was cool for the old course.

What I personally disliked more was the condensation on the track around the WWoS...If they were to carpet the entire track, I would have no issues.

Hmmm @ carpet on the track.... shag carpet??

Loved the cushion and bounce of the track.

Awesome...thanks

Figures they would have updated the RunDisney site by now if that info was released in April.

Is there anybody out there who's just running the Half? The only other Disney one I've run is the Wine and Dine and I'm curious what the course is for Marathon Weekend. Thanks! :goodvibes

Description (sorry went long)
The course is not a bad course. It starts on Epcot Blvd just outside of Epcot near Vacation Club Way. It runs up to the MK just like one would drive. Up World Drive, through the parking toll booths then over to the Villain side of the parking lot. From there it turns north, cuts a parking area and follows the tram road into TTC. We run past the monorail station down Topiary Lane (the really old bus stops) and then onto World drive again up to MK. We run under the Seven Seas Lagoon water bridge past the Contemporary and then take the cast member entrance that runs under the monorail.

Now the fun begins. Listening to it’s a Whistle While You Work coming from the Musac system we come into the park next to Tony’s, turn right and head up Main Street USA. We have a huge and loud crowd on the left side of the street. Once to the circle, we veer right and then run through Tomorrowland, into Fantasyland, and up to the back of Cinderella Castle. We run down the front ramp make a right and then off into Liberty Square and Frontierland. As we near Splash Mountain, we are following the parade route and exit back stage left of Splash Mountain. The floats line the back stage area. Captain Jack was the character of note here until 2013 when Cinderella took the spot.

Mentally, the toughest part of the race comes. We exit onto Floridian way and move south towards the Grand Floridian and the Poly. It is quiet, crowded and emotionally a big let down for many as we start running along a small country road. As we near GF, Mary Poppins is usually hanging out at the service gate. We pass the two resorts as well as the crowd from Shades of Green. From there it is basically highway again for 3 miles. We exit World Drive following the road to Epcot. This is the first in a series of three hills (overpasses). The first is the cloverleaf exit onto Epcot Dr. The road head up a slight hill but is also cambered to the right. If you find that you are having issues with the lack of a flat spot along the inner radius, slide up the slope and run the outer edge. It is flat and smooth at the edge of the pavement. From here it is a slight down and up for the next overpass followed by a full down to ground level. The run head up to the bus lane exit from Epcot Parking, makes a short 180 degree u-turn and the up and over the bus bridge.

Epcot is in full view. We run up into the bus parking area and into the backstage in the cast member entrance in that area. It’s a left then right and into the park. We run under Spaceship Earth to the World Showcase Lagoon and back up to Spaceship Earth. Park exit is the cast member exit near Guest Relations, behind the old kennel and into the Imagine Parking Lot.

I think you all jinxed me with "what pain are you feeling" talk! I ran 15 miles 2 weeks ago and felt great. Then 3 days later I jump on the treadmill for an easy 3-4 mile run, and the dreaded knee pain hit! it felt like it came out of nowhere. I had hoped it was a fluke, but when I got on the treadmill again 2 days later, it was still there. Seems to set in after about 20 minutes.

So...thinking "hey maybe its just the treadmill's fault" :rolleyes2 i went outside for 5 miles last weekend. I stuck to my short intervals for this run, which I don't usually do on the treadmill, and the pain was still there but much more manageable.

I haven't run since then. Instead I have been icing, foam rolling, and strength training. My knee feels normal about 99% of the time, so it's hard to tell how it's doing without running. I have a 5k tomorrow so I am anxious to see how it goes. I'm honestly terrified of having to quit running if the pain gets worse.

Sorry to hijack but I was wondering - is this the same course as the Princess Half?
