OFFICIAL 2014 WDW Marathon Countdown: WE DID IT! Congrats everyone!

Question for those of you who have raced at Disney before. I got the email today from Marathonfoto. Are there several photographers throughout the race? I know I've read that they are at "some" of the characters but not all.

DH and I are running this race together. It's my first marathon (his 2nd). We've said we wanted to have pictures this time... but I don't want to pay all that if I'm just going to get a couple of shots.

I didn't stop for many photos last year. But I have noticed over all the events I do, if you're patient and wait weeks maybe even months after the vent the price gets discounted heavily. I hate how much they charge. Charge me a reasonable rate and I'd purchase every time. But I'm not paying like $60 or $80 for a few good pics.

I know I've had that experience in the past with several of my HMs with that drop in price. I just don't remember ever getting a pre order of 35% off before. And if I'm only getting a couple of pics, totally not worth it no matter what. :)

There are lots of photographers and photos on the course. We bought it last year since it was my first marathon and I probably ended up with 25 pictures or so. There was a photographer at all the character stops we were at and I think they are at all of them (although we obviously didn't stop at every one). There are also CMs there who will take a picture with your camera as well. Anyway, you will have far more than just a couple of pics. The package also came with two or three short video clips of us running as wel. It's really pricey, no doubt, but you will get lots of photos if you want them.

I pre-bought a package when I did Goofy in 2012 - it was all of my digital photos from both races. It looks like this is just $65 for $100 of whatever you want to order after the fact, which is slightly different. Depends on how likely you are to want your race photos, I guess. It was nice having the package for Goofy because then I didn't worry about having a camera, and my strategy for half that year was to stop for every single photo op (vs. only about 3 for the full).

You're not alone, if it makes you feel any better. For various reasons and a handful of just plain excuses, I'm in the same boat. I see by your signature you did Goofy last year...so at least your body pretty much knows what you're in for, and experience will be a plus on race weekend. Heaven knows I'm counting a bit on that! I've got tomorrow to get a good long run in, and if it goes bad/short, then the day after Christmas. I've done 2 week tapers for long triathlon, so that isn't a worry for me. Besides...with our training being behind, we don't *need* the same taper as some others. Good luck!

Thanks!! I sucked it up Christmas Eve & tried the treadmill again. I'm happy to report I won & did 20 miles on that stupid thing. It sucked like no ones business but I did it & feel a bit better about going into marathon now.

Break in the cold snap this Saturday... Will get up to 34, at least it's above freezing, will do my long run then. A bit later than expected but I need this one to settle my nerves...

Heading in for my first (and probably only) marathon. I've gotten in 2 20-mile runs, and I'm hoping that's enough. It's just at the end of 5 hours of run/walking by myself without a change in scenery I get unbelievably bored.

hoping that the change in scenery at WDW will get us through strong!!

check this out: for the full marathon anyway, the longest stretch without a major landmark is 5 miles, and only the first 5 miles to MK, after that, it's "only" about 3 miles or so between landmarks!

starting line
run about 5 miles till ...
magic kingdom!
about 3 miles till ...
the raceway!
about 3 miles till ...
animal kingdom
about 3 miles till ...
ESPN wwos!
about 3 miles till ...
hollywood studios!
about 3 miles till ...
Epcot and
FINISH!!

of course, above only approximations, but mentally you can break it up into "just a 5k till the next park."

:)

And that is why I call mine "The Dreadmill" :)

So its 6.2 miles of park running?

Gosh broken down like that it sounds terrible but I guess its like that. I think its less than two miles of MK between entrance and exit and perhaps same with the others more or less.

I don't look at it like that...I look it like after every 5 - 7 miles you get to go into a park.

Then there is the race track and the baseball field...

However most of it is highway. Can I get a yeah!

With entertainment along the way...including some people from the haunted mansion playing creepy music and digging graves!

That sounds so much better! I may have to print that and laminate it to put in my Sparkle Skirt

IT band issues anyone? My left is severely flaring up (to the point I was unable to run 30 minutes yesterday!). I already have a bum right knee from a skiing injury two years ago. I am stretching and foam rolling, plus am going to book a massage for next week. Any other advice anyone? I am beyond worried!

Rest. I don't have any guidance on how much though. Sorry.

yes, give it some rest. Do you have access to a pool? You could try some aqua trekking.

I get knee issues....last year when I arrived in Disney...the day before the 5k my right knee was acting up and I was limping! I didn't have a knee brace on and I was beyond worried! My knee was bothering me walking around the lake in the Epcot resorts and I was panic'd!!! I was thinking...if it is bothering me now..wth is it going to do when I finally reach the full marathon!

Okay so the strange thing is...it NEVER bothered me AT ALL during any of the races! I did wear a knee brace on it but it was mint...go figure. It bothers me walking around the Epcot resorts lake (and I know I wasn't wearing a knee brace but still) but then I go ahead and engage in a 41 mile run over the weekend and it has no problems at all...not complaining...but strange.

So rest up. Wrap it up in a knee brace if you are doing anything...and on a wing and a prayer it will be fine.
