Official 2014 Tinker Bell Half Marathon

I'm glad you remembered more details. You are so right about the castle direction. :thumbsup2
I'm really looking forward to this race. Now lets hope the expo will NOT have the same problems as the DL 1/2 just did.

What were the expo problems? I'm excited to do this for the first time in 2014, and I'm doing my first solo trip to boot. So I need to plan extra well :)

I've been wading through this board, and this is my first post. I am new to the boards and this will be my first Disney race. Have been a huge Disney fan, but now that DS is older - it's not high on the vacation list. The half is a great excuse to go back to Disney!

This will be my second half - I ran my first half in Thailand last February and haven't done a running race since. I don't think it could get any worse than Thailand for heat and humidity, so I think I should be okay - just need to get all my runs in. We have a 10 km called the Turkey Trot on thanksgiving, I might give that one a try to get these running legs back (October 11). I've been paddling all summer and have neglected my running.

I'm on post 191 - so I reading forward and getting to know you all. Happy to be here and looking forward to learning hints and tips.

This is my first Disneyland Half too, and it seems quite different from the WDW ones...looking forward to it! Good luck in your training :)

Fun!!
I'm curious about the Expo problems, too. I keep hearing there were problems, but haven't heard any specifics...?

OMG...where do I start with the issues from the DL expo last month ! Since they added the (dumbo double dare) DDD...it was a mad house on Friday since all the 10k only AND DDD had to do bib pick up...lines for merchandise were over one hour to get in and at least that long to pay on Friday morning. The bib pick up lines ?...not much better....pick up bibs on one level....get your shirt on another. Very disorganized . I understand that late Friday and Saturday lines were non-existent but so was any chance to get shirts, car decals etc. I can only hope for the Tink folks that rundisney does a better job in anticipating how many folks will show up early on Friday AND have more merchandise.

Horrible nightmare lines to get into the expo and to purchase merchandise.

I recently volunteered at the Lululemon half, the expo for this half was pretty chaotic during the first six hours, the later part of the day was a breeze. The big draw was the merchandise. Sadly, a good deal of it found it's way to e-bay within minutes of being purchased at the expo. I'm guessing Disney faces these same challenges. Fingers crossed.

Thanks - have been out regularly, breathing has been super difficult!

Happy Sunday all!

Ah yes. Totally understand. I always get nervous without the 48 hour cancelaltion policy too but decided to suck it up and just trust that I'll make the trip!

Good luck with your 10K in October! I hope you're able to PR!!!

Did you see they're doing an early bib pick-up for Nike? I think I saw one in Sacto for you. So much easier for me than driving up after work Thursday night.

If anyone's flying out for Tink ~ SWA has a sale going on that weekend right now. Sunday going home for me dropped from $79 last week to $58 this week and that's out of SNA not LAX.

I saw that and I am thrilled!:cool1: Definitely going to do the early pickup. We don't drive in to SF until Saturday so now I wont have to stand in the horrible lines at the expo! I'll still go walk the expo just to see whats there. But really all the shopping is at Nike Town anyway so I'm sure it'll be a quick visit to the Expo! I can't believe its three weeks away! Dont think I've mentioned it on here but of course I hurt my ankle (rolled it while trying to walk to the car) so I haven't run for over 2 weeks. Feeling better now though and hoping to run on Wednesday. Doing a half relay on Sunday and then instead of tapering I'm gonna have to do a long run on the 13th.

Are you ready for the hills?

So I am a little bit late on starting my training. Has anyone ever done the 18 week training program for the Princess to train for Tink? Also I am doing both Tink and Princess this year so I'm trying to figure out how I will train in between the two. Any tips would be greatly appreciated :)

It feels good to be training again! Let the countdown begin :)

I'm doing both again this year too...along with their respective 10k's (what was I thinking???)...I haven't exactly figured out what I'll do in between either, but I think I'm not going to worry about it just yet. I'll wait and see how training and Tink goes and then decide what I think I need to do for the weeks in between. I figure it will likely include a week of shorter recovery distance followed by a couple of long runs and a week of tapering back down...I just don't want to lock myself into a certain mileage yet. This will be my first time doing the 10k and half on back to back days so I really don't know how I'm going to respond. I wanted to be able to take Tink a little more seriously than Princess but I'm getting off to a pretty slow and sporadic training start so that might already be out the window!

How are you (and everyone else) training for the 10K/half? Are you using the DDD training program? I printed it out with full intentions of using it but we'll see what actually happens.

Super excited one of our friends is selling us their treadmill for almost nothing! Not too many bells and whistles but thats fine for me. I just wanted something to save me from running in the dark!

Yeah, I just printed the DDD training plan and am adjusting the dates for Tink...I'll adjust some of the mileage too because I don't want to go higher than the actual race distance. I haven't used a Galloway plan before, so I might be making a mistake in doing that, but I've not gone more than 11 in training (and usually only up to 10) for a half and I've done just fine. I guess we'll see what happens on race day! I mostly decided to give it a try this time because of the back-to-back race plan.

I'm with ya on that. I'll probably top out at 11 miles.

Thank you! I just purchased my ticket. I'd rather fly than drive :)

I am trying not to bang my head against a wall right now. I thought they had learned from this year's Disneyland half I really, really did. They moved the expo to four days. And now its back to three. And the 5k's still on the same morning as the 10k despite several people asking them to put them on separate mornings. Admittedly the site still has several errors (it lists the weekend as the 29th-30th). So I am hoping its them just not getting their act together and they need to fix their own website. But still. Sorry about the off topic rant. But ughhh.

At least Tink is scheduled for four days. I just don't see why they seem to have short term memory loss when it comes to the other California race?

Okay 10k did not go as planned. I didn't figure out until last night that the route was along some of the worst hills I have ever have had the pleasure of being acquainted with. And that includes the San Francisco hills I've had the pleasure of running. So yeah no new corral placement for Tinker Bell for this girl. I squeaked in around 1:50ish. Second to last person in front of a guy doing his first 10k and I only got ahead of him on the last down grade.

Also it didn't help that I woke up with the beginnings of a cold this morning. Lovely.

At least I still have the Surf City 10 to try one last time for a corral shift at the end of the month.

Bad race days happen, shake it off and tackle the next one! Good job getting out there!

New sale for SWA today ~ it's based on mileage again. Thursday's flight dropped for me down to $49, but Sunday's stayed the same.
