That sounds about right !! Sometimes running the actual race is easier than trying to sign up for it. :rotfl2: Welcome to the world of RD.

Good luck and report back how it went! Sounds fun!

Oh - please do report back on how you liked the race. My very first 1/2 is the one in San Jose, CA in Oct.

I chose it because it seems like it very runner friendly and fun. I would love to know details, like if there really is music every mile? Or if not, how often? Do people dress up? Their FB pages often show that people do, but I am not sure if that is "normal"? And any other details that you would think that would be helpful for a new run/walker.

I hope you have (had) a great time! :cool1:

Oh & let me know about the bling, etc if you don't mind. Gotta love the bling! :woohoo:

Regarding proofs of time... any idea of whether it would benefit me at all if I have a very slow time (1:27 for a 10k)? Am I able to change it later if I get an improved time (which is the plan)? Thanks!!

Do you mean the San Jose Rock n Roll? This is a fun race and the course is pretty flat. The 2012 race is my current PR race and my first half under 3 hours.

There is entertainment every mile, but the entertainment includes bands, cheer groups and drumlines. The race was so loud I missed hearing my Garmin alerts quite a few time.

Some people dress up, but it is not like a Disney race. One thing to remember is this your race and your experience so what does it matter what anyone else thinks about what you are wearing. I frankly don't care what others think. That is one of the reasons why I was one of the guys wearing a skirt at Tink this year. The bonus is my wife got a new running skirt after the race.

That is a 14:00 minute pace which is faster than the 3:15 finish time cutoff. You definitely should submit your time and update it if you get a faster time. They will have a cutoff for when you can submit a new proof of time and based on the other races it will probably be Nov 1st.

well my race today didn't goes as planned. I have a heart problem that normally doesn't bother me haven't had any issues in a few years but ended up running my first mile way way to fast and caused it to act up.

It is the first half that I haven't finished and I am not happy about it but Decided not finishing was better than blacking out.

PROOF OF TIME:

I plan on running a 10k to get a better time and emailing it to the trackshack email.

THANKS! I'm really going to work on speed, so I hope I get to change my time ;) I did a 10k yesterday and was DEAD LAST. Yes, the very last person to cross. I didn't even stop to walk - I probably should have. Thanks for the info!

Now you can buy DFL (dead f'n last) socks. It's a tradition in our running group if you finish last you buy the socks. Don't worry about finishing last. All that matters is you finished and your way ahead of the people that stayed at home.

I did a brutal trail half last weekend and finished in 4:29. It had a total elevation change of almost 3000 feet so it was a tough race. I was 2nd to last and the last person did not have an official finish time so technically I was last from a timing standpoint.

Waiting in my corral for Rock n Roll Seattle Half! Wish me luck!!! ;)

How'd it go this morning? Hope everything went well!

Like Jeff mentioned before, it's flat. There are a couple of underpasses, but that's it and they're not big. A tip though, once you get back in SJ and The Alameda until the finish, I think around mile 10-11, there isn't much shade so make sure you have lotion or a hat to protect you. I'll be out there watching!

Do you think they should start that one earlier than 8? I've always thought that but was curious what others thought.

But you finished!! :cheer2: Congrats on the race!!

Thanks for the encouragement :goodvibes It didn't feel so good seeing my name at the bottom.

Great job on the recent runs for everyone!!

I'm off to get some DFL socks. :lmao:

Way to finish!!! You passed everyone that was sitting on the couch!

I ran a 10k today and think I finished before at least 1 person. An 8 year old kid! Poor dude hated those hills more than I did. Lol

Fun race but I wasn't expecting miles 3-5 uphill like they were. Ugh. I really avoid hills since the halves I love are flat (ahem, Tink!!!) so I struggle big time when I end up in a race with them. Ah well- it was more for training purposes than anything else. Needed 8 in today for DDD and the race took care of 6.2! I put 2 more miles on the legs after.

Training done for another week. :)

Oh, thank you! Very helpful to know what to expect! :thumbsup2

Thanks, DVC -- makes me think of the saying, "I may be slow, but I'm lapping those on the couch!". lol

I'm not sure where to get the socks, but I think I need some :rotfl:

Does anyone know what time the expo is open until on Saturday before the Tinker Bell half? It would be cheaper for me to fly into SNA on saturday but I wouldn't arrive until 1:40. I THINK that would give me enough time to pick up my bib but I know it's cutting it a tiny bit close. Sure would feel better if I knew I when the expo closed.

I *think* the expo will close at 5pm? You could make it, but it would be cutting it close with baggage claim, getting a taxi/shuttle and then traffic. If you're planning on stopping at the expo, you might not have much time.
