Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

I think the biggest issue will be trying to properly judge the amount of sleep (and, to a slightly lesser extent, nutrition) you need preceding each race,
given the excessively early hours for each of them. Two days in a row that early -- manageable. But four for the Dopey? This is going to be an interesting trip. :cool2:

See, that's what worries me the most! I'm pretty scared of the marathon even though I had a great time last year and surprisingly felt ready to run the next day. But the others I just have to figure out what pace I can do them without wanting to kill myself the next day and that's going to be tough in a race setting.

The hydration alone is going to make the person I'm traveling with want to kill me when I can't make it through the haunted mansion without having to go to the bathroom. Forget Pirates of the Caribbean. And my sister thought I was no fun last year!

I'll go out and run the day after a marathon, but I am not sure that I would want to do a half. The only real problem with the Dopey is getting up that early 4 days in a row.

As far as nutrition, I took it a step further last year. Doing the "unofficial" Dopey, I actually did 3 days in a row during training. 3 miles, 11 miles, and 22 miles. And to top it off, I looked over the AllEars menu list figuring out just where and when I'd be after each race for all meals - breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I guessed at what I'd eat (protien? carb reload?) and ate as exact to those meals as I could get here at home. Had my DH go to the store and get a rotisserie chicken and potatoes as my stand-in for the chicken/potatoes at Cosmic Ray's. Oatmeal from the food court at POR; oatmeal at home. I tried to duplicate everything. And it worked!! I was relaxed and not worried at all about where and what to eat while at WDW.

Overkill? Yes, maybe. But it turned out to be a huge relief. I was very relaxed and rather actually enjoyed running Goofy. Can't wait to do it again for Dopey in 2015!!!

This is so me! Glad I'm not the only one.

I think I read the whole thread now, I ran the Marathon last year with Colleen, and this year we are going Dopey together. I am so excited to begin training. Right now I am running 3 days a week, 3-5 miles at a time, depending on the day. (also running the Runner's World Run Streak so on the other 4 days I am running 1 mile. exactly. not one inch more lol)
Looking forward to all of the planning! I am starting on my costumes so that I am not spending a bunch of money all at once! I did get a cute girl version of the Etch a Sketch from Toy Story that I might use for the 5K or 10K. That's about it for now. I have the material for the Sparkly skirts for some of the other costumes as well!

My 1-Br Boardwalk waitlist came through this morning right after I booked it. I am all set on the room now from Tuesday through Monday. Now to get a plane ticket and concentrate on the training.

I just ran my first 20-miler, in training for my first marathon in 3 weeks. And now I want to die. LOL.

Although I'm confident I'll be able to finish the marathon in 3 weeks, I am SO glad that I have 6 more months to work up to the back-to-back-to-back-to-back of Dopey, and that I will have already completed one full marathon at that point.

I find that when I am in a race...and I am sure most others do too...I am quite capable of doing a LOT more than what I would do on my own time...It seems that when I am surrounded by others, they motivate me.

I remember the first half I did in Disney and I saw a young fellow running in Cheetah legs...past me...an 80 year old woman that kept up pretty darn good...motivating. Just being around others trying to do something good for themselves...

You will do fine...I think 20 miles is great.

I agree with you,the full Disney marathon this year was my first marathon ever and with so much going on around you,the other runners, the entertainment, going from park to park and the water and food stops it was a whole lot easier than the longest run I had training for the marathon which was 18 miles.

I have a question. Are a lot of people on this thread going to be doing the Dumbo Double Dare in Disneyland? Also are any of the people training based on the training program on the run disney page. I ran Goofy 2013 in January and trained using the Goofy plan on run disney and found it to be very useful. I also added the 5k to the Goofy to make it the unofficial dopey. I feel like I should not be worried at all because I am only adding a 10k. Some people who ran the marathon in January said they only ran the marathon when they looked at my medals and I told them that was a huge accomplishment. How is your training coming for the dopey challenge? Mine is going pretty great so far. I hope that the whole marathon does not get so hot toward the end. I remember trying to do the last 3-4 miles of the marathon. It was not fun!!! Good luck to everyone training!

Can't wait to do some planning too! It's time to start operation drag Colleen's lazy @$$ out of bed! I haven't run much lately. :sad2: Got to get back into a groove.
