Official 2014 Dopey Challenge Thread!

Guess it makes no sense to wait for the Visa email now.

There is a discount with the Disney visa..I believe it's 15 for a single race and 30 for a combo...not sure how Dopey is affecting the discounts.

Yea, I was thinking that it was open to all, with no restrictions. Oh boy, do we foresee a sell-out?

I am actually betting on a sell out of the 10k and Half in short order. The expected registration limits for the Dopey are 6k and the Goofy 10k. That would leave between 3-5k spots in the 10k and between 5-8k spots in the half. I would suggest to friends and family who are thinking of either of these two events to register earlier rather than later. At least keep an eye out for the countdown clocks.

Spoke to eD concerning the new time requirements and thanked them. They indicated that they plan to have more corrals starting with the 2014 event and hope to keep runners of similar speed starting closer together.

I applaud their efforts with working to smooth out the congestion.

Yes Coach, it is a good thing. I have no business in A but getting in B makes it tough to clear the field. Hopefully they can break what would have been B into a couple of groups.

I don't think we'll see anything sell out for a few months, but it'll probably be earlier than usual.

I am having trouble getting in thru Active. It says that registration is Closed. Is there a specific link to use to get in? Thanks.

Looks like Active caught the fact it was open to all. I can still get to the DVC registration link though. Am guessing it is open only to APs, DVC, and Disney Visa now.

Wow smaller corrals would be a big change. When running rock and roll DC I was noticing how they had 30+ corrals but they were 1000 people each and only spread out by a minute. It seemed like it helped with congestion.

That's actually one of the things RnR does very well. Now if they were only as runner-centric as they were a decade ago....

Really?!?! I called last week and this morning trying to get rates. I booked with a TA but want to be sure I'm getting a good deal. Worried there's a special RWC rate like they had last year.

Yeah I had no problem booking but I just booked through Disney so I'm sure I didn't get the best deal. I was originally booking through a friends DVC property but when that was already booked and decided not to play around and just booked myself through Disney. If I waited I probably could have found a better deal but I've wanted to do this for a while and I am going with my family so didn't want to leave anything to chance.

@ram if you booked directly through Disney they will reduce your rate anytime a new deal is offered. Thanks for the info. I called Disney travel not Disney sports and was able to receive a quote.

Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for any deals so I can call to have them applied

I signed up for the dopey rwchallenge. Anyone know what "preferred corral" means? I think the extra money is worth it if that means Corral A for all of the events!

Unfortunately, yes, your corral will be an A or B (if done like last year). Sorry to be a little negative, but the reasoning for corralling is to place runners into an order approximating expected paces. Allowing a 15-16 minute pacer to purchase a spot into a 6-7 minute pace corral can create 'issues'.

Good news.. Talked to RunDisney this am about this. RW challenge will not automatically be in Corral A or B (unless their proof of time supports it). They said last year someone made a promise of A or B so they had to go with it.. not this year.

What they said will happen this year is that "preferred corral" actually means that you will be moved up 1 maybe 2 corrals from the proof of time you submit. If you submit no proof of time, you will be moved up 1 or two corrals from your estimate.

I think this is a much smarter way to do it.

i wonder what galloway's training will look like. probably won't be able to stick with the 3x/week workouts like i did for the marathon for the dopey. wonder how he will alter his goofy workouts.

i think the whole family will do the 5k. we'll be in the stroller division so that part of my dopey challenge will be a walk :)

No stroller division this year. I emailed run Disney and they emailed me back the following.

Thanks for your email. Due to previous safety issues, we are no longer
offering a stroller division for any of our runDisney events, including
the 5K.

Thought I would let you or anyone else know. Last year there were real little ones walking, so depending on the age of the children they can probably walk it.

Hi All! I registered today with a code and link that a DVC passed along to me. I am hearing comments that people are saying that Run Disney may withdraw those who registered today that are not DVC. Has anyone on this board heard that? My credit card was charged, I received an active.com receipt and confirmation email. I am probably being a bit paranoid, but I just wanted to make sure I got in, and when I was passed along the information from a DVC member, and when it allowed me to both sign up and use the code, I decided to see if it worked-and it did!

Anyone know anything about this or hear anything? Thanks in advance!
