**** Official 2014 AUGUST - Disneyland thread ****

No question of the week? :)

What about the opposite to last week's question?

What is the one ride you refuse to go on?

For me, I will not go on California Screamin' in DCA and Splash in DL.

Although, depending on how hot it is in August, I might change my mind about Splash! :sunny:

I have not, and I will not ever ride the Lady Bug Spin in bugs land! :rotfl2: I rode the Tea Cups once, on our first trip, and after that I swore off Tea Cups and Lady Bugs! Hey, somebody's got to stand outside the ride and take the picture, right?

I'm with ya on California Screaming. I cannot go upside down like that, but every other ride at the parks I am up for!

:goodvibes

I am not looking forward to California Screamin at all but I am going to go on it because this will probably will be the one and only time I will be in Disneyland. I will have to do this at the end of the day so I can go back to the room and go to bed

I hate the teacups. I mean really hate them. My son, on the other hand, loves them. It was his very first ride ever at DL. Every trip we buy him a new Mickey ear hat and I always take a picture of him on the teacup ride wearing it. So, even though I loathe the teacups, I ride it every time.

:cheer2: Hurray! It looks like I'm going to be hitting California and Disneyland for the first time in Aug.

I know the hours aren't officially out yet but what do you think the odds are that DCA is open from 8-10 instead of 10-10 during the second week of August? I had been planning on a 8-10 day since I had assumed it was summer season so it would have the longer hours but the current calendar lists the hours unofficially at 10-10. Are the hours listed short to manage expectations or is that what is normally seen during that time of year?

Best thing to do is look at last years hours. 9 times out of 10 that's how it will be this year. I will be there the 8-12 and I am hoping for 8-10

Ah thanks. It slipped my mind that the Dis probably has the old hours archived. Looks like it was 8-10. Cross my fingers that it will stay that way for this year.

Now all I have to worry about is getting my family up in time to hit rope drop.

My DH cannot stand the teacups either. I love them, so I'm always the designated rider with the girls. :rotfl: This past trip, however, we split up more frequently so our 2 and 4 year old DDs could do more what they wanted (DD2 doesn't really enjoy any of the bigger rides, even ones like POTC or HM while DD4 could ride them over and over and is just a giant thrill-seeker). DH went with DD2, and she wanted to ride teacups over and over and over.... he was such an awesome dad, though, and he did it, just like you. Oh, the things we do for our kids! :) Someday, I just know I'll end up on that awful CS ride that terrifies me even to watch it. :scared1:

Tower of Terror for me (and California Screaming). I'm one of those traumatized kids you hear about who's parents forced them on a big ride that they really didn't want to go on when they were younger. My mom would drag me onto log flume rides which I hated (I don't remember this but my dad says there was one time I agreed to go on one thinking it was smaller than the one we usually rode... it was bigger). Now that I'm older I can do small to mid-sized coasters (and I did do Splash in WDW last year) but anything with a serious drop I will no do. I'm still trying to decide if I want to brave Space.

I did get "revenge" on my mom though. While I don't do drops I love spinning. My mom will not set foot on a tea cup ride with my brother and I anymore after we accidentally made her sick on one.

I love ToT, even though it makes me scream like a little girl. A comparison I know to be true since last time I was sitting beside a little girl and I'm not sure who screamed louder her or me!

But I love it!

There are times I wish I could force myself on it but then I think about it and my brain just goes, NOPE. When I went to WDW last year my friend (who also doesn't like drops but has done ToT before) went through the entire line for ToT just to see the themeing and then took the chicken exit out.

My husband is the same, although he did go on it once. He and our son go to Monsters Inc while I go on ToT alone. It's strange what things we will put ourselves through and what we will not. I will go on ToT but not Screamin' and don't even talk to me about the swinging cages on Mickey's Wheel of Death! No way!

Wow I'm late to the party! Just skimmed through the rest of the pages.

I'm going for half marathon weekend, arriving 26th August and leaving on the 31st (we'll be going on a road trip while the crowds thin out then coming back for my birthday in September :goodvibes).

We'll be staying at Desert Inn & Suites from 28th, I haven't got my first 2 nights booked yet (plans changed to suit cheap flights). I'm thinking it will be easiest to just book those 2 nights at the Desert Inn & Suites too, but part of me wants to try somewhere else.

I'll be doing the 5k run with my parents, then the 10k with my parents and DH. DH suggested an early lunch at Blue Bayou after the 10k, so I'll probably try to book that. Don't have any other dining plans for the week yet, but I would like to fit in breakfast at Storytellers at some point.

We've got 10 day hoppers, which we weren't going to use until our second visit to DLR. However, now that our plans have changed and DH has to leave early, I'm thinking of upgrading to a deluxe AP.

And questions of the week...

My favourite DLR snack is a churro.

I can't choose a favourite ride! Probably POTC at DL and Screamin' at DCA. I'm a big coaster fan.

There are no rides that I wouldn't consider doing at DLR (as long as I am allowed to take some motion sickness tablets first :rotfl:).

There are two rides I absolutely won't do:

1. Space Mountain - Did it once. Never again.
2. Teacups - Did it once when DD was 5 and DH didn't make the trip. Never again.

My kids love both these rides, but luckily DH can handle them. I've also never ridden Screamin', but one of these days I might get up the nerve.

Woohoo! Please add me! August 10-16 at PPH

Welcome both of you! (And anyone else I missed!)

:cool1:

Howdy - joining the August list! DD, sister and myself are heading to Disney August 23-26th, staying at the Anabella Hotel.

It's a first trip for my sister, and the third for my DD and I. We are looking forward to showing DL/DCA off and having a wonderful trip!

Darn! Sorry I've been AWOL for a bit. I got my daughter back from a missions trip to Guatemala this weekend and have spent every moment of free time we have talking about her amazing experience. Then I got sick :( and today i'm heading out for our 21st anniversary supper.

I am off work tomorrow so I will pop on to catch up on everything I missed, add all the new people to the list and post a question.

No one seems to like my question! :confused3

Welcome back and have a great anniversary dinner!

LOL, you are quick!! I just came back to change that post because I saw you posted one for us but you got here before me.
I saw some answers :goodvibes and I will answer it too. The trick is to make it BIG and BOLD and COLOURFUL! And add some smilies :lmao: That always helps.

Thanks for filling in for me during my absence Aladora :thumbsup2

Here's my answer to the question of the week....

I will NOT ride Soarin! I rode it once and it made me nauseaus for the next half hour and the LAST thing I want in a theme park is to be sick :crazy2: I'm not sure what made me sick on it because I ADORE coasters and drops. I think it may have been the fact that my brain THOUGHT it was doing things that it WASN'T and it threw it off and ended up causing a bit of nausea.
I will also NOT do spinny rides. I used to love them as a teenager but after I had my first child I could no longer handle things that spin so TeaCups and every other spinny ride is out for me.
