Official 2013 Tower of Terror 10 Miler

It seems I can go back in and order those things now.

But at any point will we be shown what we are ordering? Seems odd to buy something without knowing what it will look like.

As far as I can remember there were no previews of the pins or necklaces.

Anyone care to share their intervals for training and what intervals they used during the race? I know it's different for everyone but any advice would be great!
It really, really is different for everyone, so my run/walk advice is always to play with the intervals until you find a good fit. I'm not familiar with the C25K format - what intervals did it last have you doing - maybe start from there? If you haven't already, read through Galloway's explanation of walk breaks, too - that might help.

Me, I shake up my intervals all the time. Some days I'm happiest with a 1:00run/:30walk, others I bump up to 1:30/:45. At one point I was doing .25mile run/1:00 walk. In my experience, there is no single "right" interval pattern for all of my training; short runs, speed work, hill repeats, long runs, high heat, rain, dead legs, lots of energy - all of these influence which intervals feel best on any given day.

Nope, at least not in past races.

Just wanting some input into the JG beginner training plan. I'm just about finished with the C25K and wanting to switch over to the runDisney training schedule. However I'm not sure how to do the run/walk intervals. I'm used to the C25K plan telling me when to walk/run and for how long and the JG plan just kinda says to figure it out!

I used to run a 3/1 run/walk interval, but recently changed it to a 1:30/1. I like the new one much better, but it is a personal choice. In the beginning it seems like walking is crazy after only 1:30, but eight miles into the run I am always grateful that I stuck to my intervals.

Thanks for your input! I'll play around with the numbers you guys threw out, I'm just happy for a starting point!

I feel like C2K focused more on getting you to run a whole 5K and not focused on intervals at all. I just finished Week 5 and 1 workout had me running 3/4 mile, walking 1/2, running 3/4 then the next day it jumped to run 2 miles! The earlier workouts were fine, but the later workouts are kind of turning me off. Just feel like they're trying to cram it all in. So I'm planning on switching to JG's plan! :thumbsup2

I started with C25K also, but my hips could not take the pounding of straight running. Jeff Galloway is the only reason that I can run. :)

Yup! My friend and I started started out using C25k but then they had that huge jump and we were like "Nope, no way!" And then we found Jeff Galloway and it's been great from there! We do 3:1 intervals for shorter races (5k and 10ks) and 2:1s for longer races.

That week 4 or 5 leap is a great place to repeat repeat repeat. I did one of those weeks at least twice, then around maybe week 6 I got sick, took a few weeks off, and had to redo the whole thing. I didn't take all the weeks, but I did week 1 on day 1, then week 2 (the longer part) on day 2, etc. Then I did the hard stuff for as long as I needed to get my circulation systems, heart and lungs, and muscles ready. Once I moved on, I was far more ready.

Now that I've been doing something of my own thing while waiting for the runDisney/Galloway training program to start, I'm just slowly increasing my mileage (10% per week NO more), getting my heart and lungs and muscles into even better condition, etc. And I"m doing walk/jog intervals. Right now I'm still on the treadmill (I simply cannot figure out what to do with my homeschooled son in order for me to go running!) and I've been doing a 2-run/1-walk ratio that feels really good.

You just have to figure out what works for you, and a good starting place will be the rundisney training PDFs.

I tried out the 1:1 ratio this morning for 3 miles since I'm running a 5K on Sunday and it worked so great! Much better than the C25K! I think I'll eventually try to get up to 1:30:1 or 2:1 as my training continues but this is a great starting point for my 1st 5K.

Thanks so much for ya'lls input! :goodvibes

Yay!!! Glad it worked out for you. :)

Has anyone signed up for any virtual races? I've never done one, but I found a couple of them that seem to be good, legit ones. There is a Dr. Who race that you can run either a 5k, or HM to benefit Boston and the other one is for diabetes. Both have really cool medals that you get after completing them, and they are for a good cause.

I also have a really important race for my family coming up next weekend. It's for AIDS Community Resources a local volunteer program that supports and educates people with/about AIDS. They helped my brother when he was really sick a few years ago and now I'm trying to give back to them. I started out with a goal of raising $150.00. Well, with the power of facebook and the internet, I'm now up to $770.00 with a new goal of $1,000.00! So excited!!!! :cheer2::cool1::yay:

Do you have a link for the Doctor Who Race??? I haven't done a virtual race yet, but was thinking about doing a Star Wars one this summer just because I like the medal. ;) Doctor Who would definitely be more tempting, though.

I signed up for a Star Wars one that offers a medal because we're doing the Aids Walk/Run which is a 5k June 2nd!

I just found the Star Wars race and that looked really cool but it was May 4th and I don't think you can sign up for it anymore.

Yeah and YEAH!! Good luck! Locally here we have a runapalooza race the day before the AIDS run and if you do both, you got a nice guitar medal, but I had already signed up for a 5k hospice race.

The diabetes race is only $10 and I found the info and a pic of the medal on doombuggy runner's site here:
