Official 2013 Tinker Bell Half Marathon Thread

Sometimes have ding specials but sea to lax for four people 908 and don't have to pay for bags. That's there best feature lol. That would be at least 200 more dollars on another airline.

Ooh! Great advice to wait until Oct! Right now they're offering fares as low as $78 each way from OAK to SNA. I'm usually an impatient shopper and the thought of passing up on these prices and taking the chance that they'll go up almost drives me insane. BUT, if I can get a RT ticket for ~$70 then it's worth the insanity, right? Especially if I plan on being there for almost 4 full days. I'll need the extra $$ for the hotel! I'll be going to DL next week and my brother is buying my park hopper ticket as a belated birthday present. I think I'm going to use this opportunity to upgrade to a Deluxe Annual Pass. :) Only $269 that I'll have to pay and it will DEFINITELY be worth it if I'm there for 4 days in January.

I remember flying from SEA to SNA before. Southwest didn't offer flights to SNA from SEA (not sure if they do now) so I had to fly Alaska instead. Much more expensive and I didn't earn any Rapid Rewards AND I had to pay to check my bag! I would have chosen another airport but I was meeting people at SNA since they were flying in from OAK. Although I do miss the PNW, I'm glad to be back in the Bay for now!

If you can get a ride or a shuttle, also play around w/ SFO and SJ. I always check all 3 b/c the times and $ change w/ each one. And if you wanted to, you could always buy the tix now and change it later if/hopefully when they have the sale. Then you could use the extra $ to go down for another trip.

And about your pass, 1 of the best things if that you'll get a discount on race merchandise at the expo. The disney stuff not the vendors, but it still saves you $.

SFO and SJ are definitely options, and I always check those too. Sometimes flying out of SFO is cheaper than OAK, but sometimes not cheap enough to beat the convenience of flying out of OAK. :)

I just might have enough Rapid Reward points to buy a one-way ticket, and then have to use some CapitalOne miles to buy the return ticket. I wonder if that might work against me if there is a sale later in the year.

I am registered and nervous. I am running/walking a 1/2 in September at home. I am currently training about 16 min a mile. I am hoping to get to 14 by the race day. I am so nervous about getting swept. I am hoping to get a good time in September to move up corrals.

Any advice to newbie?

Also thanks for the WW advice. I do WW also.

Jeff - you advise to eat AP but what about WPA points.

Saturday I did the longest run ever of my life - and I was proud of myself - and I earned 13 AP. I had already had all WPA for week. I did not lose either.

Do you mean the 49 weekly points? Use those like you would when you are not training. We are always training for something so we have gotten used to just using the AP that we earn.

One thing to remember about nutrtion and training is that you need to replenish what your body needs during a workout and not replace what it has already used. Your body burns fuel (food) and fat reserves when you are doing a workout. If you burn 200 calories in 1 hour you do not need to replace 200 calories. You need to replenish the fuel so your body is burning a balance between the food and fat.

If you do not eat enough during a workout your body will look for other forms of fuel and will start using your glycogen reserve which will last about a max of 45 minutes for most people. If you use up your glycogen you will pretty much hit a wall and not be able to go any farther short of crawling. My point is eat about 100 calories every 45 minutes, drink 20-26 oz of water every hour and use the electrolyte you prefer and you won't have to worry much about hitting a wall.

You will use part of the AP you earn during the workout and most of the rest should be used during your post workout meal. Don't skimp on the post workout meal since that is what really helps with your recovery.

Not sure about the Capital One miles, but it won't w/ the RR points. I used them to book a flight out to Vegas and then 3 weeks later they had a sale. I just changed my flight to rebook it w/ the new price and they credited my account back w/ the extra points. Of course I got an email today from them about the sale they're having from SJ to SNA, but it's only through mid-Dec. If I wasn't doing the Museum Exhibit in Simi Valley on the way home from the DL 1/2 Labor Day, I would've flown down in a heartbeat.

Anyone buy from sparkle skirts. They look cute and I want to do all pink for my mom memory but not sure.

I haven't purchased from them, but have seen them at several expos. Personally, I like the cut of the skirts from Team Sparkle better.

I can fly, I can fly! I'm in! Booked my Best Western and now to train...uggg.

I made reservations at Castle Inn in January. I have older children so need a larger room. Has anyone stayed at this property? how is this is in relation to starting line?

Last year they lined us up on Disneyland Drive. If they do the same you are close.

I was on the DL 1/2 part of the site and they have the email sign up for reg! It says that reg is going to open on June 12th. Hopefully the 5k won't have the included park ticket this year and the price will be lower.

Then got over excited and checked out to see what the hotels looked like, even though it's early. Sunday nights aren't looking good b/c of MLK. BW Stovall's is starting at $119 but BW Park Place prepaid is only $79 but jumps to $111 on Sunday night. A few others are up and you can book, but I think they're around $119 also. I really wanted to stay at Stovall's this year b/c it's right there, but the price difference is so huge. I think I might leave Sunday night and drive 1/2 way home and stay at a motel on 5 somewhere. I know it's really early, but it'll be interesting to see how fast hotels sell out b/w the race and the 3 day weekend.

I just booked that hotel! I got an email for a web price total $98 w/o parking.

Looking at reviews on did has me nervous. What about armada maingate

Have you tried Best Western Stovalls on Katella? (Across the street from the start and finish) Or Best Western Park Place in on Harbor ??

okay switched hotel to Candy Cane. Better reviews. So hopeful. bought my plane tickets. now i just have to finish training and save for extras.

yeah those were both full. Next time if I do again, i will book earlier. :)

Did you check the generic BW website? They've been playing around w/ the specific hotel site, but through the generic one and then searching through Anaheim, they have has rooms open.
