Ladies? 8.5 miles this morning. No pain! :cool1::banana::yay::woohoo:
Yeah!!!! Almost 6 weeks to go and you can do this!!:cool1:

DH and I went out for our 8 mi run today (out really means outside since I do like my treadmill but know the PHM is done outside!:rotfl2:). It was a cold (for San Antonio!) 43 degrees so I decked myself out in a long sleeve pink Fila shirt, a sweatshirt over that and my long running pants with panties underneath (haven't done the commando thing yet and I figured it was too cold for me to try it on this outside run today). and oh yes...little pink gloves for my hands. We managed a respectable 12:49 min mile with DH being soooo gracious and stopping to walk with me when I needed which was quite frequently. Really, really proud of ourselves since this is our first half marathon and to date the longest run in our training program. Can't wait to tell running coach. This gave me a good idea of what I would need to wear if the temp for the PHM is under 50. I did feel sweaty but not hot and would probably want my silk thermals I use for skiing under my running pants since my "backside" could have used a little warmth! ;)

10 mi for next weekend then 8, 6 and on 27 Jan a Hero half marathon here in San Antonio. Feeling better about being able to do the 13.1 and be a little in front of the balloon lady! :yay:

Welcome to our new Princesses!! :wave2:

Fantastic!!!

I wish I could say the same. My 6 miles left my hip in some pain. Not happy :sad2:

I'm still concerned about my aches too. I wish they would just go away for us both!

That's great! So excited for you!

I was supposed to do 9 today, but I'm rained out...postponing until tomorrow when the weather is supposed to be much better.

:cheer2:

You've got this!!!!!

I usually do my long runs on Sundays so I think my plan for tomorrow is a minimum of 6.5 but hopefully 7 if I can manage. It's snowing today and 33*. The temp isn't so bad but I don't feel like running in the snow so if it's still coming down tomorrow, it's the indoor track/hamster ball for me. 56 laps may be about enough to make me lose my mind.

Well aside from liking all the patterns Hippie Runner has, they just fit me better...they aren't quite as wide and I find that a lot of times the Bondi Bands are too loose on me, especially when they get sweaty.

Thanks! I'm off to check them out. I'm looking for something for the Princess and I'm also not sure if I want a tiara or just a headband or a baseball hat.

...ever...on any discussion board! :wave2: (squee!) I've been lurking for a while though ;) I can't find the post anymore but seem to remember someone writing about how much they hated gel's. I just started using Hammer Heed "High Energy Electrolyte" drink and find it does the trick for me. The tag line on the package says "If you prefer sports drink over energy gels, give HEED a try." Anyway...HEED has electrolytes, vitamin B6, minerals, amino acids, some carbs, etc. It does the trick for me. Just for electrolytes I like Skratch Labs Exercise Hydration Mix better than Nuun. I get it at a bike shop!

OH!!! And so glad for all of the encouragement you guys have been giving out. Helped me get through a cold, the flu, an injury, another cold, etc. Can't wait until next month!!!

:wave2: Welcome!!

I'm new to the post too! I'm nursing a broken joint between my big toe and foot (holy cow, never knew how much you use your big toe)!!! I had just started averaging 12 min miles with 5 miles my longest when I hurt myself back in beginning of Dec. I haven't been able to do any training in the last 5 weeks and I'm really worried about finishing! Tonight will be my first real run/walk so hopefully I can pick up some speed on training! This is my first ever half marathon too, but I really can't wait!

Anyone have any suggestions for first timers, what to bring, eat before/during/after, etc?

:wave2: Welcome!! Start looking now at thrift stores for "throwaway" hoodie/pants/robes or anything you can use to keep warm before the race starts. I did the 5k last year and was chilly in short sleeves, but my friend in a tank top was very cold. I have several variations I can use if needed.

Make sure you try out your fuel and costume ahead of time. Gu does not work for me and it was nice to find that out at home and not loose a day at Disney due to an upset stomach. I saw tutus on the side of the road at the TOT race. You want to make sure you can wear the costume the whole way and that it doen't rub or annoy you too much.

That's pretty much it. I wear Vibram 5Fingers (minimalist) and prefer the no heel build up because I'm a toe walker (and runner) and the extra heel material tends to feel like I have luggage strapped to my feet and make my foot feel awkward. So for me, the less heel, the better, but that's definitely not the case for most people. And if you are interested in minimalist running, it's something to approach gradually, for sure. But I do love it!

Interesting. Fleet Feet had originally put me in shoes with a 12 mm heel-toe drop. They looked great on my feet when they analyzed my gait, but I always had mystery foot pain. I tried a pair with a 4 mm drop, and I rarely have that mystery pain & when I do, it's more of an ache than a pain. I'd never compared the heel-toe drops before, but I guess I need a flatter shoe.

HTTD tells you how much difference in height exists between the heel and forefoot. The smaller the drop, the lower the heel. I think it's a different strokes for different folks kind of thing; there is no one "right" drop for everyone. I'm in love with the Brooks Pure Project line because they offer a small HTTD drop but aren't a zero drop, while giving plenty of support and cushion. I'm a solid mid- foot striker and a high heel messes with my landing, causing all sorts of issues.

Thanks for all the input on HTTD. I am currently in Brooks and have been thinking about trying the Pure line just to see how I like it. I know I used to push off with my toes a lot, and PT for shin splints showed me that I have a freakish lack of flexibility in my big toes, so I really got into the Chi Running and have tried to consciously be more of a mid-foot runner.

Princess V - good for you! That's a huge accomplishment with no pain. I HATE cold running (and that would be anything under 60 :crazy2:) so put off my scheduled 6 today until it just became too late. MUST do it tomorrow, weather be darned!

Thedonduck: last year some repeat princesses threw out some ideas and tips for the run. I'll be thinking of some of the things I appreciated most when I was new and try to put some things in a post later! Welcome to the thread!:wave2:

I went out this morning at 6:30 it said it was 19*. I wore 2 long sleeve tech T's, and running sweatshirt and bondi band and gloves. I was warm right after the first mile. It was a nice run. I think tomorrow should be warmer.
Just have to get the first mile in. Good Luck!

I just got back from the Cheesecake Factory!! Yummy, so glad I got my run in today!

19 as in 19 degrees?! WOW, I don't think I could have pushed myself out the door! Good job!!

I know it has been asked before, but I am wondering again about hydration belts. I have a spibelt and used it on the all of my other races (5k, 10k, & 10 miler), but I am thinking I really want to have my own drink with me this time. I have a stomach that ends up looking like a tire around my middle in the photos with the spibelt. :sad2: I wear it low, but with all of the bouncing it still doesn't look great.I would be carrying my camera in the belt also, my phone would be on my arm. I also like to attach my number to the belt so I don't rip the shirt with the pins. Anyone have any brands they like? I'm hoping someone else has a tummy and can share their ideas.

I saw a discount code in the Marathon papers for Ifitness. Does anyone use their hydration belt?

I know this has been asked before...but what compression tights do the veteran princess runners like and why. Do you like full length, Capri, and do you like one brand over another. I've seen so many my head is spinning. CW-X(?) seems to offer more specific support for Knees and muscles.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery ! My husband is a BIG Packer fan so,he is happy with the game tonight. I am a Cowboy fan and told the dogs the Cowboys did so well they didn't have to play anymore ! :rotfl2:

The good news is they said no more snow for a few days. I can run in the cold, but I'm not a fan of being snowed on while I'm out there. I've been doing 2 layers of ColdGear, a hat, hood, infinity scarf and gloves. Keeping in mind my ankles are exposed since I wear Vibrams, it really isn't too bad. I usually end up taking off a glove to look at RunKeeper and then half the time don't put it back on.

I just got these awesome Injiji toe socks that i was hoping I could wear with my Vibrams but I think they're going to be too thick. They're still awesome and I got them on dirt cheap clearance.

So here's a question: Who has test-run their costumes yet and if so, where? I think I am going to have to bite the bullet and do it at the indoor track because there's no way I can wear it in the 20-30* weather.

I ran 13 miles last week at the track getting ready for Tink and I wore my "outfit for princess" all except the tiara and tutu. I'll be doing my tutu try out in the privacy of my own home on my treadmill in the next couple of weeks. I guess I am just not confindent enough to be running round in circles with my entire costume unless I am on Disney property.:rotfl2:

Hi Prinesses! I've been MIA due to spending Christmas at Disney! Then I came home with an awful cold. I managed to wake up early for 3 runs. 3 miles, 5 miles!, 3 miles. My plan called for 3.5/3.5/5. Close enough, right? I managed to lose 2 lbs at disneyworkd, with th dining plan. So many sweets!!

Creepy - I'm hoping for under 50-55. I hate running in warm weather. My 5 mile run was 68 at th start.

Headband rave:sparkly bicbands. I have a couple and love them. Seriously the only thing that stays on. Tested up to 5 miles so far. I also wore one for my 5k. I'll be using th sparkle pink or silver one for the half. Bicbands always fall off for me, but these stay! Bicbands.com

Anyone else following the Hal Higdons novice plan?

Th sidewalks are sheets of ice, so I'm banishing myself to the treadmill. I miss outside runs! I haven't really run for 10 days though due to be sick. I tried a run and made it a mile before dying. (too congested!)

Okay, I'm rambling!

I'll be testing on a treadmill too. Except at my condo gym. I'll either go super early rally or late and hope no one is there.

How long of a run are you using to test the tutu? I was going with 3?!?

Our old thread got locked for being to long, so here's a new one. :thumbsup2

I'm hoping for a favor from someone eating at CRT on 2/23 please Pm me! I need the Belle cake that is offered there for my daughters bday. Only place you can get it! Thank you!

For the new people who asked for advice, I just remembered one that helped me for my first race: Body Glide :thumbsup2 You can find it at sporting goods stores and the pink one for ladies is less amount in the package for more money, LOL! You can apply it anywhere your skin will rub. I could have used some on my last run when I was testing out a running skirt!

Yes... And when I looked at the ingredients lists for both the regular and ladies versions of body glide, the only difference is that the ladies version has dye in it to make it pink! :rotfl2:

Gold Bond has this product as well, and it is cheaper than the BG.
