Half marathon #8 on the books. Unofficial (Garmin) details - 13.19 miles, 2:44. WOO! PR!! My previous best was 2:49 so I am pretty sure it's a PR, anyhow. Especially after doing a half last Sunday too. Happy.

 Congrats on the PR!!

Does anyone have suggestions for training between Halfs? I'm planning on doing the Tinker Bell in January, and then the Princess in February. I'm sure i'll need two weeks to recover from the Tink, but after that how much should I run in between? Are there any plans for that kind of situation?

I agree with the pp and you can check the Princess training programs from Galloway; he includes the Tinker Bell as a possible training run for the Princess.
I am doing both but I am going for a PR for Tink and doing the Princess for fun and to get my C2C medal so I am doing the Tink training program (for time goals) I plan to take maybe a week off, maybe just do 5 as a recovery week, then 14, then 5 and then that would bring me up to the race. Basically I would just be finishing out the post race training just as he has it posted.

LOL! Great story! My daughter and I are running the Neverland 5K together and she keeps telling me, "Well, I'm taking off so you just do your thing and I'll see you after". We'll see about that! :lmao:

I will be doing the Royal Family 5K with my mom and dd (10). It will be dd first race so I wanted to tag along and take some pics. :lovestruc

We're definitely looking at the Somerville Jingle run. Maybe we'll all have to catch-up after the race!

There is a "Thanks4Giving" 10K in Lowell on Thanksgiving morning-- is anyone doing that one? It says all finishers get a pie! :) I'm thinking a flat, 2X loop would be a very good course to try to improve our time... maybe even hit 1 hr flat!

Go on with your bad self! Dang you rock.

No run for me this weekend- I did spend Saturday Helping make 101 pies and get them in the freezer for church which took the whole day- by the end my back was in no shape to run. So I will get 3 miles in between school and my crossfit class today!

If anyone is questioning whether they should train to do intervals, or straight running for the race, I have to definitely recommend training and racing intervals. I felt pretty good Saturday and ran most of my half without intervals. I am so sore, even still this morning. This never happens to me, even after running longer distances. I can totally see the value in intervals running now beyond simply the added endurance. I guess this is also a lesson in not doing something next on race day. I always run intervals during training, even on shorter runs, but I felt pretty good and didn't want to walk in front of others. At least my next race is Disney, so there are naturally nice running intervals if you run from characters to characters

Sent my proof of time to runDisney this morning :thumbsup2 I was sore all day yesterday and am still a little sore today but it's the good kind of sore. I'll bike this week, but I'm not running until this weekend, and even then it'll be slow.

Hi everybody!!!!! I'm late to this thread but have been committed to the 2012 Princess Half since the day registration opened.

Today starts my training plan; I guess I'm going to follow JG's HM to Finish plan since I've never done a half before. Not sure? Clueless. I don't even know what a "4 x 800" is.

My story: this year I've lost 50 pounds by exercising & eating right. Started running in April, and since then I've done two 5ks, a 5 miler, a 10k, and just Friday did an 11k (for 11/11/11, and yes, start time was 11:11!). Dh travels and I've no help with my kids, so am finally biting the bullet to ask our sitter to help so I can establish a regular running routine. Ack.

We're staying at PO-Riverside, flying in Saturday & staying a few days past the race.

Can't wait to meet y'all!!!

stitchfan, I swear by intervals! Sorry you are so sore.

It was indeed a PR for me. Official time, 2:44:55. :)

Welcome, vaTiggerGirl!!

Congratulations to all for their races and PR times!! You guys did great :) I did do my 3 miler on Sat in 35 min so that was good.

Yesterday I ran a 5k with my 10 year old daughter (for a good cause: a little boy was kidnapped last year in our hometown and still has not been found, this run was for continuing his search efforts).

I had this talk with my daughter that we are running this together and it wasnt about time. We should stick together. Well of course, as soon as the race starts little miss smarty pants takes off like a flash. The race was on the cart path of this gorgeous golf course so I always had her in my sight.

She was really cookin' but I just stayed at my pace which I knew I could continue easy for the 5k. Well low and behold, just like the Tortoise and the Hare, she was totally gassed at 2.5 miles and I just cruise right up next to her and smile. It was hilarious!

We finished together holding hands, had a great time and ran for a great cause!
Hope your weekend was "fast and fun"!

Dig deep,
Michele

Such a cute story!

Congratulations on your PR and on back to back 1/2s!

Yes, send an email with the information for the race you completed. I sent them an email last Monday and received an autoreply saying I should hear back within 5 business days.

Is it worth it to send in a previous race time? I just figured I'd run wherever they put me--but I did do a 10k in September, and I think that time would count if I were to send it in.

Just debating, since I've never run a half before, and I'm unsure whether giving them that race time will help or hurt me!

I would go ahead and send it it....the Princess is chocked full of character and photo opps, so even if you aren't worried about getting swept, it just could put you closer to the front giving you more time for those photos!

How soon did you get that email? I submitted my time this morning but haven't received an autoreply yet.

Congrats to everyone who ran this weekend - it's feels great knowing you can do that!

Same question - I submitted time over the weekend and didn't get an autoreply - checked spam mail and it wasn't their either. Thoughts?

I am a total interval lover. There is no way I would be doing a half if I had to run the whole thing.
In fact we ran our 11 mile training run with a friend who is doing the Houston full in Jan and we turned him into an interval believer too. He actually had a better pace doing the intervals with us.

LoL it explains it at the beginning of the plan, but basically it is speed work were you run fast for half a mile and then walk for 3 minutes to recover and repeat for whatever the distance is that day.

We are staying POR too!!

It wouldn't hurt you any to submit the time. I had some friends who were in corral B this year and it cleared out pretty good for them and they were actually able to run out of the castle; while I was in D and it was pretty crowded for the whole race, not only were there a lot of walkers in my corral, I also caught up to a lot of the walkers/ picture takers from the earlier corrals.

How soon did you get that email? I submitted my time this morning but haven't received an autoreply yet.
When I submitted my time for the Tinker Bell I never got an automated response, just an email from Kara with runDisney with in about 3 or 4 days.

Congrats on your loss!!!! :worship: :worship:

Hello Laides,

I've been MIA beacuse I have not been able to run, I started physical therapy for my hip last week and did an 8K this weekend, I am not in as much pain as I thought I would be, so here's hoping this is the start of the end. I can't wait until I can get back to traing again.

Congrats all of you with your long runs :cool1:

Way to go Kat on yoru PR!!! So very very happy for you! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I think I got the autoreply immediately. I'm still waiting for the actualy email letting me know they have updated my information, though.

I just signed up for my first 10K for this Saturday about an hour from Little Rock in Hot Springs! We are supposed to get rain all weekend so hopefully it will be ok in the morning. Worst part is I'm working the closing shift the night before so I probably won't be in bed before 1 am and I will have to get up at 5! :rotfl2: Oh well what's a girl to do?:confused3 Hopefully it will turn out to be an ok run for me! I've never done that far and my training has been a bit out of whack the last 2 weeks and all the lightning today is not going to help! Might still try to get a run in late this afternoon thought if the weather isn't too bad...
