Official 2012 Princess Half Marathon Thread!

I ran on the road today ... not quite the same as on the treadmill ... there was no airconditioning, television and feeling of having my feet move for me ... but I think I did well ... I ran 2.5 mls in 32 minutes. I just started running two weeks ago and now that I have good sneakers and an Ironman watch, I didn't feel like quite the spastic chicken  I did even a week ago. I am training for a 5k later this month, and then training with a running club this summer for the Princess Half Marathon, and feel a little more optomistic than a did when this "idea" become more of a reality! :tinker:

Hey everyone! I haven't been on this thread since I said pages and pages ago that I was in for another Princess! My dh was in a car accident at work a few weeks ago and got pretty hurt. He just had knee surgery on Wednesday, so he's really sore still. And of course immobile. He has an appointment with the neurosurgeon soon to talk about possible back surgery. I feel so bad that he's in so much pain. :sad1: So he's obviously going to be off work for a while. We've been talking the past few days, and we think we're going to try for a family WDW vacation as soon as he heals a little! He'll probably have to be in a scooter, but I'm so excited to take my girls!!

In other big news, I'm doing the Disneyland Half:woohoo: I can't believe less than a year ago I couldn't run to the end of my driveway. Now I'm signing up for races left and right. And because of our family trip, the DL Half, and the Princess, I'm just going to buy a Premier Passport. It makes sense financially. But with that, I'm now rationalizing entering more Disney races. Because, you know, I've already paid for admission to the park. :rotfl:

Happy Mother's Day to all you moms!!

First off sorry to hear about your husband and I hope he heals fast and all the surgeries go well. Hugs to you and your family.

I hope you have fun at all the Disney runs, I don't live close to either place so I have to plan, save money and do trips. Ahhh well at least the plan for the Princess 1/2 is still looking good.

Happy Mother's Day to you too. :flower3:

Thanks so much. We live in NJ, so we aren't close either. We actually planned to be looking for jobs in Orlando right about now, but then the accident happened. Hopefully this won't sidetrack us too long. We really want to move there!

By any chance is your hometown half, the Cincinnati Half? Just wondering, b/c that will be my first half too!

I just saw this - no it will actually be Columbus. I wasn't able to run CapCity here but I'm going to run the half October 16th of the Columbus Marathon.

SO excited & had to share - I was bummed b/c it seemed like everyone I knew got picked for the lottery entries into the Peachtree Road Race (local 10K on the 4th of July; one of the biggest in the country) and my husband and I didn't. Today he gets notification that he won 2 free entries to the race from the local newspaper!!!! Although I think I will pass on submitting this one for my proof of time - very hilly, and July in Atlanta isn't conducive to PRs!! You do this one more for the tradition of it, and I have grown up here and never run it. (Now let's hope that whatever is wrong with my leg will be fine by then!!!)

Thanks for letting me share!

Hi Tinker Amy,
Glad to see a fellow diser will actually be doing the Peachtree!!I too came to the conclusion that I won't be submitting time for the Peachtree. I am looking to find a race in the Fall to use. Congrats on winning the entries. I think it's pretty crummy that a home town tradition is now gone to lottery based.

Try Bull Frog brand Quick Gel. It will burn a bit on your face but won't sweat off.

I am extremely fair skinned so sunscreen is NOT optional for me, not even on training runs. :)

Thank you! I will try that - I'm not very fair skinned - but I live in the north so in the winter I'm much more fair than in the summer and I don't want to burn to a crisp lol :goodvibes

In other news, I did 3.75 on the treadmill at the Y tonight, 2 mi. of which I ran! I can't believe I actually ran and it wasnt that bad! lol! I just kept visualizing running thru Fantasyland!!!

Isn't it funny how it's the little things that keep you going? I ran the same amount of time I did last week, with the same times (5 minutes warmup, 1 minute running/1 1/2 minutes walking 8 times, and 5 minute cool down) and I did 2.25 miles, instead of the 2.2 I was doing just a few days ago.

Like I said, it's just .05 miles, but when I bump up to run 1 1/2, walk 2, I'll be getting faster and covering more distance.

Just wanted to wave hi to a fellow Columbus runner!

I decided to start Couch to 5K to get me to a point where I can run 30 minutes nonstop and then my plan is to start training for the Princess using the Galloway method on the runDisney site. Today was Day 1 and went fine, it was actually very easy since I've been recreationally running since November, but the my obsessive/compulsive side has to start at the beginning of the program! Ha ha! I kept thinking during the run how excited I am to run this race. I can't wait to get to Disney!

Well I finished week one of the couch to 10k program and have started week two - like monekydishwasher - I am not sure I am a runner yet but so far so good. The knees are holding out. I enjoy reading your posts as they seem so positive and forward looking. Hopefully, in a year I will be the person posting that last year I couldn't run to end of my drive way but now I am signing up for races left and right.
Martha

OK another question for you experts! On race day, do you wear sunscreen? I have been looking at pics and see that at least this year it was a very sunny morning. But I'm also thinking if I wear sunscreen, I think I will sweat it all off running! What do you guys do??

I've had good luck with Banana Boat Sport Performance. It says it's sweat and water resistant and it doesn't feel greasy either, which is a bonus. I've found the hard way that I need sunscreen even when it's cloudy out, and I always have the travel size with me.

Thank you! I'm going to test a few out this summer while I'm training to check and make sure what sunscreen will work the best! At least I have a few names to try out :thumbsup2 Thank you!

OMG you guys, I am really behind, but I have big news! DH (who has been unemployed/self employed since January) was offered a position in central FL and we are moving once school is out!!!!!!!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1:

I'm so excited to go on this new adventure!! So, because my life is a flurry of packing and pitching and traveling (we leave Thursday am for a weekend in Orlando/Tampa to go house hunting!!!) I have not run in a million years. I'm hoping to fit it back in after we get back from this weekend!:banana:

I hope everyone else is doing better than I am and is staying injury and burnout free :goodvibes

Congratulations on the job! We just relocated to Tampa, but from north Florida so not a huge change for us climate wise at least. There are tons of running events down here this time of year as you work back into it.

Wowowow how so very exciting! Congratulations to you, what a big move for you! I hope you absolutely love living in Florida!!

Mama dis, congrats! Awesome news!

Good news for me as well, just booked our plane tix to Orlando for the race! One week ago they were $575 from Oregon and yesterday I got in a $99 companion fare certificate so I thought I would check to see what fares were at. Big surprise, prices dropped to $380, so with my certificate I got tix for $260 each! Great news for us so I jumped on it. Wow it seems real now!

Just thought of a couple questions for the veterans....

-- race hotel discounts, I know they offered them this year. Does anyone remember $ or % that you recvd off?

-- ticket discounts, if memory serves, I remember reading they were pretty good. Does anyone think they beat undercover tourist prices?

-- can you get both the race discount for hotel and tix or do u have to pick one? I know how Disney doesn't like to stack discounts.....

-- was anyone able to buy the dining plan with the race discounts?

Thanks guys!! ( I think this is my 500th post, do I get a special prize or something? :) )
