I need Body Glide for sure, but I attribute at least some of that to the 40 lbs overweight part, and how hot and humid it is here. As mentioned above, the sports bra line, plus inner arms and inner thighs.

Black toenails are usually too-small shoes. If you can press your finger between the end of your toes and the end of your shoes, you should be fine. Feet swell during distance running.

Blisters - if you aren't getting them at 6 miles, they are unlikely unless it is pouring rain or when breaking in new shoes or socks. Band-aid blister block or moleskin will work great if you do get them.

Your husband is smart to have the little bandaids on his "chest". I hear that is really a hot spot (so to speak) for men!! We won't have that problem thanks to sports bras.

I would say this is more like a big important test, or something you worked really hard for and got, and hopefully not nearly as much pain as childbirth!! With proper preparation and training, you should feel exhilaration and pride and not pain and suffering - well, not too much anyhow!

Although, I have no children, so I might not be qualified to comment there.

I'm sitting here jealous of those of you that could get out and run! (even the not so stellar runs) I see my surgeon wednesday for my post surgery appointment - but it seems as thought the surgery hasn't fixed my knee pain. The knee feels the same and the old swelling is back (or maybe the new swelling is down enough for me to finally see it's still there). I'll just have to see what the Dr says. But I sure wish I could have done the local 5K saturday! (knee hurt so much at the time I didn't even try to walk it!)

HOPING YOUR APPOINTMENT GOES WELL! Sorry your knee is still bothering you.

Body Glide - is this something everyone will need? However, my DH who is training for the MCM uses it, as well as two little round band-aids on his "chest". To me this is kind of like pregnancy again (particularly the baby's delivery): I'm soooo looking forward to the Half, but body glide, blisters, band-aids, black toe nails all seem scary! I'm only at 5.5 miles now and haven't had ANY issue...yet!

I did get a bad chaffing under my bra on my back last year at the princess. I think it was just a combination of things including it was REALLY hot that day - even for Orlando in Feb and I sweat alot. This year, I am just going to lube up with the body glide. I will say, I have noticed I also can chafe on my upper inner arms. As for blisters, I did get one during the race, but that was it. I had also only trained up to 11.5, not sure if that has anything to do with it and due to injury I hadn't been running alot the month before...BUT I did finish and it felt great! DIdn't notice the chafing until post race shower.

And I agree with Kat, any unpleasantries with the race are forgotten when you are close to the finish line and get your medal. I have done 3 half marathons in my life....one in the rain, one in the freezing cold, and the princess which was warm last year. I cursed the conditions at some point in all 3, but ended with a huge smile on my face and obviously am going back for more!

Julie, thanks for suggesting the Blue Emu. I finally made it to Walmart this week and have been using it for a few days. I think it's helping.

You are welcome, it does help I think some. Beats taking too much advil which I start to worry about that taking a toll on my insides. That Blue Emu is good stuff.

I got a good run in Sat. and today!! Loving the cooler temps today. Anyone seen a pic of the 2012 medal? We need to post it here.
Happy running everyone.

I think, hope, and pray that fall is finally here. It was 61 at the start of my run this morning and 63 at the finish. I wasn't fast, but decided to extend my run halfway through because I was loving the weather. The best part was that I didn't have to get up at the crack of dawn for these awesome temperatures. I started my run at 9:30!

Thanks for the good advice all! I need to get some body glide. My last long run was 8.2 miles and I'm starting to notice spots that I think are on the verge of chafing.

Those of you who have had rough runs this weekend, I'm sorry. Yours are making me feel better about not getting out, but you should feel proud that you did it anyway! It's the tough ones that show what were made of.

Book wood, keep us posted on your knee. Fingers crossed that the surgery did work and it's just taking longer to heal. :(

I have not been able to run all weekend. My dog had to have emergency surgery for what turned out to be adhesions from the spay surgery she had at the shelter, and the only place that was doing surgeries is two hours away so our whole weekend was sort of thrown into chaos.

I was going to go today, but hello migraine! I've got meds on board now and am approaching human status, but it's so incredibly humid and I'm still dragging. The air quality has been awful this weekend. Those few days of nice weather after Irene really made me think about fall. it makes much more of a difference than I thought it did, and I've broken out the inhaler for my next run, which I haven't had to use in a while.

Hopefully I can find some time this week for a long run. I might do a 5k next weekend too. I guess I'll be rested, lol. I haven't run a race since June 4. It will be interesting to see how I do, but then i'm worried I won't have improved much...

I did it!!! Ran my 1st 10k in 1:08!!!! So proud of myself for actually getting up and doing in this rain and with no sleep. Our littlest decide last night he didn't want to sleep from 11pm to 1am. He was crying off and on and no matter what poor dh couldn't get him to calm down. Finally he went to sleep. Stupid teething!

What corral would a 1:08 10K time get me in? I"m doing the exact same course November 5th and I'm thinking I'll wait until then to turn in a time. I mistakenly believed the "mostly flat course" in the race description. It was pretty flat EXCEPT the 3 straight up hills we had to do up at least then we got to come back down them.

Awesome job! I think a 1:08 would get you into corral B. I submitted a 1:02 10k last year for princess and a 1:06 for Wine and Dine. Both times the proof of time was enough to get a corral B assignment.

Way to go! Based on last year you would be Corral B...I submitted 1:12 and made it. What race are you doing Nov 5th? I would love to shave 5 minutes off my time, but that is a dream I know!

:woohoo: I did it!! I officially registered!!! :woohoo: YAY!!!

Now... to work on my costume.... lol!

SAYSAY,

there is the CHOA strong legs run that will take place on Nov. 5th. I am considering doing this one as well for my final time to submit.

It's the Georgia Cup Riverview Landing 10K and 5K. https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1URem1O55YAUFCPnC03bbI7An5x2wtl7sYNAJbBmNC8g It's the third one down I think. Next time I plan to run longer on the flat areas then be ready to walk the 3 hills. Today probably b/c of hte run there was only like 75-100 people running the 10K maybe not even that many. It was small whcih was nice for my 1st time.

Now... to work on my costume.... lol!

Yay! I'm still working on costumes as well, or at least trying to definitely decide on costumes. Right now I'm thinking about a pirate princess theme, tink, snow white, and a goofy theme for January. I'm only planning to run 3 disney races next year, so I may have to throw in one of the 5k's if I can't decide which costume to boot off my list...:rotfl:

It was raining and much cooler today. After my tough race on Saturday, I thought I'd try Galloway today. I ran 3 minutes, walked 1 minute. I was roughly 4 minutes slower than straight running on an indoor track. But, what a difference in how I feel. I felt like I could've gone a couple more miles like that. Hmm. I haven't done any walking intervals since C25K in May. I'm going to try 5:1 on Wednesday and see how it goes.

Just hopping on quickly to say...woo hoo!
I did my long run yesterday and it was 5 miles. The most I've EVER done. I did it in 55 minutes, which is good for me. I'm using the Galloway method really like it. I'm using the 2:1 intervals, but think I can actually increase to 3:1. I felt great, and probably could have kept going!

It seems like the first mile to mile and a half are the toughest for me. My legs hurt! Yesterday they didn't hurt at all.

That is awesome! You're an inspiration too! If that time is Corral B, that is a time I should plan to shoot for when I do my 10k in Charlotte on Oct 29th. It gives me plenty of time to increase my intervals. Thanks for sharing!!

Also, thanks ladies for the feedback on the glide and blisters. We're supposed to get hit with rain for the next 24 hrs so I may divert to the treadmill rather than risk a blister in the rain at 4am. I'm so excited to finally be off the couch after 39 years, but am scared of a blister! LOL

Taryn- that's great! Thanks for sharing your interval times. I am also doing Galloway and am very interested in what everyone else is doing for times and how that affects their pace.

To all who had bad runs recently - hang in there! It happens completely randomly sometimes. I remember one run, right before last year's princess, where I was going for 12. For some reason, miles 1 - TEN completely and totally sucked; I didn't hit any kind of groove until 11 & 12. I was mildly freaking out that I would bonk at the princess. I did the same distance the next weekend, same intervals, same route... perfectly fine. So just keep doing what you're doing - blow past the bad days. But don't just give up - if I had quit on that run early, I wouldn't have hit the decent last 2 miles and my confidence would have been totally shot. Unless you are sick or in real pain, I say press through as best you can and you will be that much more confident!
