Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

I have another question... forgive me, I'm new to Disney races. everyone is saying to bring money to have my medal engraved with my time. Where do we find out our exact official finishing time?

I suggested that you bring $20.00 cash to have your medal engraved. I do this after all of my races.

There will be a tent set up somewhere after you go through bag check (at the end of the race).
Once you pay them the $20.00, they will tell you your time and engrave it on your medal.
They will not tell you your time if you just walk up and ask them (at least I don't think so).

The only other ways to tell your final time (I think):
If you paid for the Princess retreat.
If you did runner tracking on yourself (the cheepest option!) :thumbsup2
I did this for the Tinkerbell!

Can't wait! :cool1:

Is it only the time or your name also or either/or?

Stayed at the All Stars for the second and third Princess and the buses are busy with line going through the lobby and out to the pool. If I remember the Sports is the first one...buses (resort and race) always stop there first and fill up. We have gone to the bus stop around 3:30-3:45 to see/get into these lines, so other will have a different experience. I think for the second Princess we we at the movie resort and they called more buses because they would fill before getting to the last stop.

I know this is what they did at POR too. Right before our bus pulled up a runDisney guy pulled up in a min-van and asked us if we had seen a bus yet. The bus pulled up as he was talking to us and he talked to the driver and was on a walkie and went to the next stop, when we headed that way he talked to the driver again and we skipped that stop and went to the front lobby stop. They talked to the first few people in line, I gather telling them it is standing room only and 2 ladies from a couple people back got on the bus and we straight over to EPCOT.

I had my first Princess half dream a few nights ago. I had a lot more last year so I must be more confident this time...although I don't feel like it.

I've been on Weight Watchers for about 3 weeks and have lost 10 lbs. I dreamed that I got to the half and Jeff Galloway was there to be my personal coach. :thumbsup2 So I started running and finished the half in 8 minutes and 29 seconds. :lmao: In my dream I thought "losing weight really does make you faster!"

I woke up laughing. :rotfl2:

LoL that is an AWESOME time :lmao:

I didn't have any race dreams for Tinker Bell, but I did have a princess one a couple weeks ago. I don't remember what it was though.

This made me smile. I had a dream that I got to my corral in slippers and forgot my sneakers so I sent DH back for them but he started the race without me and I couldn't run because I didn't have sneakers:headache:.

That was almost like my dream last year. I dreamed I left my room with my shoes on but when I got to the corral they were gone and they wouldn't let me start the race because I didn't have my shoes. :confused3

I'm 9 weeks now so I'll be about 11 weeks for race day. I'm just having trouble not being too tired to get off my butt and run. I just want to sleep all the time!

I give you so much credit. I didn't start running until after I had my 4th, but I really don't think there is anyway I could have done it pg. Like you I just couldn't stay awake.

For those staying at BLT/Contemporary, it does not look that shuttle buses will be provided or that the monorail is going to be working that early in the morning. Am I wrong and have to provide my own transportation, which won't be a problem because I have a car. I just don't wan to mess with traffic that morning. Does anyone have any information?

The Contemporary is not one of the host resorts, so yes you do need to provide your own transportation.

Thank you so much! I think I will do the running tracking on myself!

That is what I am doing this time too. My mom always tracked me so she told me my times once we met up, but this time I signed up to track myself so I can get my official time sooner, as long as it works right.

The day I arrive at Disney has now hit the 10 day!!! I'm not overly thrilled with what it is saying, but it's on there. :dance3:

Ok having my freak out moment right now.... would love a voice of reasoning!

19 days ago I did 11.1 in a 13:30 pace (I took it easier then I normally would, I'm about a 12:30 for longer distances) and since then I have only done a couple 4milers and about 5 5k's. I'm going back out today, Friday and Sunday for 5k's as well. Am I doing this right? I'm SOOO freaked out that I'm going to get hurt (I dont have the best knees in the world) by adding some longer runs.

I guess what I'm asking is with only doing 11.1, 29 days before the 1/2 will I finish ok!!!

Sorry. Freaking. Out.
Michele

You will be FINE. As everyone else has probably said, you have gone *almost* the full distance, during the race the adrenaline will carry you the last 2 miles. And you already have the fitness base, so 29 days (while probably not ideal), is not *that* far from race.

Remember...you aren't going to run the whole 13.1 miles without walking/stopping. So you will have built in breaks, which will probably help some.

On a personal note, I've only run one half marathon (last May) and prior to running it, the furthest I'd ever run was 5 miles and that was 6 weeks before the race...and in the 6 weeks leading up to the race I ran maybe a total of 20 miles. And I finished in just over 2 1/2 hours.

So, take a step back, breath, and realize that you have done the work and will be wearing a medal in less than 2 weeks!

So frustrated. I can't seem to fit in this last long run! I wanted to do it this weekend, but was sick and slept all day Saturday. Tried on Sunday, but was just too congested and only did 2 miles. Had a meeting till 8 after school Monday, so no run, and today's Academic Games tournament ran late, so I didn't get home till 7, so after eating, the soonest I could start would be 8:30...and I just do not feel like running till 11!

I will try once again tomorrow. My last long run was 10 miles on Feb 4th. Before that was 11 on Jan 14th. Hoping to do 12 tomorrow...would be happy with 10...maybe even 8....just hoping I can do this!

What time are the "non Disney resort" people leaving their hotels? This is my first race and I'm staying off property and have no clue what time I should leave the hotel. Thanks!

I plan on catching a cab at 3:00 and heading to the AKL to meet up with a friend and catch the bus. That has GOT to be enough time because I just cannot bear the idea of getting up any earlier. ;)

Taryn,

I love your outfit, but keep in mind that if it is a hot day,you might want a short sleeve shirt and possibly bike shorts only under your adorable skirt. Last year the race day was warm, and once the sun came up it got hot quickly. The early corrals avoid this somewhat, but not the later ones.

Happy running!
Pam

Pam, I just slipped my tutu over my jeans for the picture. I have a SS technical shirt and running capris to wear on race day.

I think you will be okay. Just keep getting your shorter runs in and enjoy!

I have not a a Princess 1/2 dream yet, but before my 1/2 last weekend I had dreams that I was last and finished so far behind everyone else that they were tearing everything down by the time I got there!

It is $20 and they will engrave your name and time on the medal.

There have actually been a few cases that describe where I've had happen what you had dreams of.

I had a dream of the Princess 1/2 too don't really remember much other than getting lost somehow and when I got to the corrals everything was really weird.

I am pretty sure that after reading this thread I am going to have weird Princess dreams tonight! :rotfl:

I had my first Princess dream last night. I dreamt that I ran through the castle the wrong direction and then some how was in Adventure Land but got off course and was running all through POTC and getting caught in dead ends.

Maybe you should run with a park map. :rotfl::hug:

I stayed up past my bedtime to catch up with this thread!

Taryn, congrats on your first half! Amazing time, especially with the hills. At sea level on a flat course you are going to OWN this thing!

To those of you who haven't run 13.1 yet, I'm with you. I stopped at 11.8 a few weeks ago. Now it's all walks and short runs for me. My plan-scheduled 14 last weekend turned out to be 3. I'm takin' it easy.

I have read that at 10 (and even 8) you can do it, it's just a matter of how comfortable it will be. I have also read that it's better to be 10% undertrained than 1% overtrained, so I'm going to be 10% undertrained. It's weird mentally to not KNOW I can do it, but I've psyched myself out like that for other races and paid the price for "running the race before the race." (I clearly read too much about running.) Anyway, race day will bring us there--we've done the work!

POR/FQ corral walkers, I'm game! It freaks me out a little, but then walking an extra mile-plus before the race freaks me out too!

DD10 and I leave for our vacation on Friday! Very excited. I recently got a fitbit, so it should be fun to see how many steps I take in the parks! :cool1:

Before my 1/2 last week the farthest I had gone was 11 miles, and that was four weeks before the race.
