Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Amy, slow your pace and you'll be fine. ITBS flares with over use, so keep it slow, steady and easy.

Great to see another NorCal runner is going to be there! We'll be at DL for the half to complete the coast-to-coast, later this year.

Derek

I am doing the same thing. Princess & DL 1/2.

PRmamiDEdos, it may be closer to walk to Satatoga Springs. Just an FYI, last year a friend of mine walked from SSR to Epcot to see her DH and said it was A LOT longer than she thought and ended up with really bad plantar faciatis.

I will be driving to the race, and have driven the last two years as well.

Traffic is a bit nuts but not too bad really. I would try to be getting to Epcot by about 4:15-4:30, and then bring coffee/breakfast/etc with you and stay in the car to stay warm until it's time to go to gear check, take a potty break, and walk to the corral (which will take ~30 min to do all three).

I've never had trouble getting out after the race, but we are slow and take our time getting out of the finish area.

Thanks Kat!

I've been fighting some mysterious 'bug' the last 2 weeks which has sidelined me far longer than I wanted to..

Felt decent enough to hit the treadmill and ended up getting 6 miles in (in 1.5ish hrs) so while not anywhere near my normal speed felt good to get something on the books..

Hopefully this means I'm on the tail end of this as I really want to PR at Princess

Anyone have an idea how much the DB bags go for? I  the big one and MUST take one home with me! Time to scrape up all the loose change I can find!

I'm kind of hoping they sell out before I can get my hands on one - save me from myself! :rotfl:

Has anyone ever walked from Port Orleans French Quarter to the start corrals?

From looking at a map, it should be possible...and less walking than from the parking lot/staging area.

Definitely closer to walk. I saw a lot of people walking last month during the marathon weekend races. The only hard part is trying to find your corral from the wrong side, but I guess technically since you have to jump the fence you can go into whichever one you'd like.

20379 and 20380: Corral B
8701: Corral D

We gave our friend the race registration as a birthday gift, so her registration just went through last week or so. She is actually a faster runner than us-- what would she need to be able to move up to Corral B with us? I think her more recent races are all 5Ks, and she has done a Half before, but I think it's been a while. (Do they have to be races with official times? Active.com has a lot of "self-timed" events where you submit your time but get a bib number, t-shirt, etc.)

Otherwise, how long apart do B and D start? I was thinking maybe she could catch up to us in the first 3 miles or so. (Would there be a way for her to at least get up to C? Then we could just start in the back of B.) We worked really hard to get a 10K time for the B Corral, so I really don't want to drop back to D.
Proof of time needs to be from a race after July 1st, 2010. If she doesn't have proof from a longer race since then she'll have to start where she is assigned. The race has to be an officially timed race, but she can print off and bring results if they aren't on active.com

I was looking at the DB bags in the parks on our last trip. I remember the clutch was in the low-mid $50 range. I think the smaller across body bag (sorry I don't know the technically term,) was around $190, and the larger was around $240-$250. The only size I really looked at seriously then was the clutch, so the other prices could be off some since I only glanced at their tags once.

I just bought one of the Disney Park DB bags last week and it ran about $250. This is the bag (and size) that I got though:

The online Disney Store has all of the current DB bags with prices so you might be able to get an idea from there.

Sorry if this ends up being a double post - my mouse is seeming to move on it's own.....

Julie reminded me that the D & B bags were sold at a discount at the expo last year. Still a little too rich for my blood, but certainly not at the prices you see online.

Mild panic moment yesterday when I realized I have no idea where all my shorts are!!! Will have to digging around under various beds in my house when I'm ready to pack.:rotfl:

Starting the recruiting early - my 22 y.o. niece has started running and posted someting on FB yesterday about running 3 miles without stopping. I told her to start saving NOW for next year's Princess!! She's a funny, funny girl who loves Disney princesses, so I'm sure I can entice her! :thumbsup2

Way to go ladies!!! Love keeping up with the training and love all the costumes. I'm so excited, I can't stand it!
One more long run in my training, this weekend, then it's shorter runs til the big day.

Thanks Kat!

Sure!

FWIW, last year we were running SUPER late and screeee'd into the parking lot at Epcot at roughly 5AM. We were able to still do gear check at probably 5:15, potty line was completely empty, and we made it to our corral at ~5:45AM when the national anthem was starting.

I do NOT recommend this approach and there are no guarantees that this will be the case this year, but if you are stuck in traffic at 4:15-4:30 just know that you will likely still make it. :)

I re-mapped both on my desktop (for some reason ipad maps are screwy) and it's definitely a hop, skip and jump right to POFQ. Just a 0.6 miles, 11 minute walk. It's also easier b/c there are actual roads you can walk on to get to POFQ. I'm just hoping I don't see an alligator!!!:rotfl2:

If you decide to walk..maybe my DD and I could tag along. Will you have a communication device with you? What time do you think you would be leaving? I think it would be fun to try and see others at our hotel on Saturday evening. I assume many may be in early for bed....We will be in bed around 9pm. I was thinking at the pool around 7pm? What do you think?

Hello PRmamiDEdoa

If you look at the top map in your post #1520 you can see how close the starting corrals are to POFQ.

The starting corrals for the race are on EPCOT Center Drive, and Corral C is sitting almost exactly where the word EPCOT is printed on the map. Go out POFQ, turn left on Bonnet Creek Parkway, turn right and go over the little bridge over the creek, and voila, you are standing next to the corrals.

Stitchfan18 is correct that it's not as obvious which corral is which, but when you walk up to a corral from the side and see a bunch of people wearing race bibs which say Corral C on them, then you know where you are.

And it's no problem getting over the fence into the corrals from the other side, or at least it isn't for me.

Although I am definately a male, I am running of the 26th as well. This is my daughter's first ever half marathon, and we are doing the weekend and race as a family. We aren't running together, but she is sharing the course with me, which I always appreciate.

Good luck.

Craig

11904 is in F if anyone is looking for a point of reference! I hope that saturday there are still some I did it shirts left

I bought the Tinker Bell Dooney Cross-Body @ the Expo. With my Premium Pass I was given 20% off the retail price of $168.00.

I beleive the smaller bag was $49. Can't recall the price of the bigger bag, but it was over $200.

Since I can't use my premium pass @ WDW and I really don't like the Princess Half Dooney (it's too "princessy"/"tweeny") I'm skipping it and going straight for the mouse ears! Those are pretty neat!

I REALLY REALLY hope the Disneyland 1/2 Marathon has an awesome retro Dooney designed by SHAG (a girl can dream, right?).

I have a funny story from this weekend that I think you will all enjoy. I had a girls' night out on Saturday with some good friends. We were celebrating my birthday, so I *had* to wear a tiara at dinner - they really had to twist my arm ;) Just after our drinks arrived a mom and her little girl came over to us and said "I'm sorry to bother you, but my daughter thinks you are a real princess. Could she say hello to you?" The little girl was so cute and that totally made my night! Just had to share with all of the other princesses I know!

I got my 12 miles in on Saturday and felt pretty good. I think I'm sticking with 2:1 intervals for the race, I kept a decent pace and had lots of energy at the end. I was hoping to get in 10 miles this weekend, but I don't think the weather will cooperate so maybe some speed work on the TM. I ordered my costume last week, Cinderella (balancing act princess tee and sparkle skirt), can't wait for it to arrive!! I'm so excited and nervous! Good luck to everyone in these last few weeks of training!!

Jenn

I might be able to make the Friday one! We are eating at 1900 for dinner around 5pm, so if we are still around by the time you guys are meeting up, I'll swing by! :) Where are we meeting? (I am sure there is a thread somewhere but please help the lazy!)

WISH Meet Friday at the Grand Floridian at 7pm will be in the Lobby area, closest to the birdcage. I can wear my WISH bandana for identification! :thumbsup2

Craig - That is so sweet! She is "sharing the course with you!" YOU are an inspiration!

Check out the DisneyStore.com site for their D&B bags. Most of the wristlets go for $49, the cross body bags for $165 and purses for $215. I'm sure the Expo will mark up the wristlet to $80, then offer a "discount" and mark it down to $49. :lmao:

Now on week 6 of sedentary restrictions. Hopefully will be clear to walk away from the ice cream buckets next week and onto a bicycle! I've gained too much blubber! popcorn::

A princess in need of some advice. Any time change adjustment recommendations for a westerner from Oregon going southeast to Orlando for the princess hm? :confused3 Thought about taking a late nap on Saturday, the day before the hm and then staying up until after I run it. Good or bad idea? I normally am a night owl and don't get to bed until after midnight PST.

Hi Fellow Princess in Training,

I was wondering if someone would graciously inbox me the discount code for running warehouse. I am in need of some arm warmers. Thank you and YES the excitement is growing, Growing, GROWING!!!!!:banana::banana:
