Official 2011 Disneyland Half Thread!

Thanks for the informaiton Joe. I've never been to Disneyland so I was trying to do the same thing with Google Maps/Map My run. I think a video would be useful, because the first time I'm in the themeparks is when I'll be running the race. Thanks again.

I'm in the same boat as you. I was at DL 20 years ago and can't remember a thing. I am lucky enough to have a friend who has been to DL many times accompany me. But this is a tad overwhelming...

Yea, it's definately starting to feel more real now. Even though this is my 4th half marathon, it's my first "destination race". The other ones, have all been driving distance from home. Although I did spend one night with friends or family to avoid trips on back to back days.

I'm following the Galloway training to improve time. So this morning I did 4 miles. Man am I out of shape! It wasn't pretty, but I did it! Lol

Good job on getting started. Just remember to take the long run slow. I would either put your most recent race time into McMillian Running Calculator or run a Magic Mile to get an idea of your training paces. Save your "hard" running for T/TH

I'm also doing a modified Galloway time improvement plan but I'm using the W&D one because looking at some of his other plans for my speed he peaks at 15 mile instead of 17. I also think the Disneyland Time improvement plan has a small but frequent error in it. It shows 30 min. T/TH. All of the other time improvement plans (as well as the explination of this plan) say 45 minutes. 30 min. is in his "to finish" plans.

So glad I'm not the only one. Its my own fault. Before this week, I had run 4 times since the Princess. Time to start moving again. I credit all of you as my inspiration.

So super excited about Angle's stadium. I hope it doesn't change again.

@ Joe I look forward to the video even though I must have been to Disneyland 100 times, I love visualization.

Monday starts my official training for the DL half...and since I have a couple planned after that, it looks like I'll be in training from now until the end of January 2012...I have to put that out of my mind...too daunting! I think I started things off good though. I participated in a 5k trail run yesterday...first trail run I've ever done, and did really well I think. My method has always been run 1 mile/walk 100 steps, repeat. I decided I would push a little so I ran the entire race yesterday, walking only once for about 10-15 seconds through a water stop for a couple of sips. I ended up with a time of 32:15...and a 10:34 average pace...which is about a minute faster than my usual, so I'm happy with that. And I have to shout out to my BF who also ran the race...with a time of 21:something at a 7:03 pace...which was good enough for a 3rd place prize in his age division...his first time placing in any race!!!! I'm so proud of him...3 years ago he couldn't jog to the end of the driveway....which was the same boat I was in only 1 year ago. Crazy how much things can change!!

So I was supposed to have a short run today... but it was a bit rainy and I was visiting my grandparents so I ended up just walking for a bit. However, I've gotten up to my longest run thus far in my training (5.01 miles) last Thursday so I'm happy. I've been super sore on top of it because I've been doing circuit training again as well.

I have to say though, that running with the Nike app I just got has been so much fun. It claps when people comment on the fb status it posts for me (although I don't know what they say till I'm done). I also found out that if you've assigned power songs, you can hit those, or it can suggest when to play them for you. I kicked *** when I played mine and overcame my previous distance record.

Maybe a short run and circuits tomorrow... or just another long run on Tuesday, we'll see, but I'm getting ansy to get back out running already...

CONGRATS Cripey and SLP. Sounds like you both had great runs.

I "officially" start my DLand training next monday, but have been doing 3-4 mile runs every other day to build some miles and work on speed.

I feel with you Cripey. I have a 5K this coming weekend, another at the begining of June here in Anaheim. A 10K in July. Then the DLand half, Rock and Roll LA Half, Rock and Roll Vegas Half, and then WDW. just keeps building until January.

My friend just backed out of doing the WDW Full relay with me, so I think I am gonna do the Goofy and get it out of the way.

Happy training everyone. Cant wait to see what we actually run through the parks. DCA is looking like a big wall everywhere you do. The Paradise Pier section should be complete and open by Labor Day, but it did not look like we are doing that area at all. Oh Well, just more time to spend running in Disneyland!!!

Happy and Healthy running everyone!

Sounds like everyone getting a good start on training. "Officially" I don't start training until June 13th after a 5K on June 10th. But I've been doing 15 miles a week 4 on Monday, 4 on Wednesday., and 7 on Friday, for the last 3 weeks. The plan I'm using calls for 7.5 May 17th. Although that day, I'm walking in the local Relay for Life. I shouldn't have any trouble getting the miles in but It probably won't be all at once, and it will be mostly walking.

Good for you for doing the Relay for Life! I participated in one just a couple of weeks ago and it was great! We had a pretty good sized team made up of mostly runners with a few walkers. We decided to run in pairs for 30 minutes at a time...I think I ended up running at 9:30p, then at 3am, and then a shorter one close to the end around 6a. We tracked our laps and I used my garmin to determine that our team did a total of 54 miles during the 12 hour event! Good luck!!

Our church has a large group come out to help walk. Last year we signed up for a 1 hour intervals. I ended up staying a couple of hours. We didn't technically relay we just made sure someone from our group was on the track at all times. Normally our group had several people. My dad's a 29 year, I think, prostate cancer survivor. Been cancer free for well over 25 of those years. He was diagnosed when I was in 8th grade and I'm 42 now. I tried to track my laps with my Garmin but messed up the autolap feature. I did keep track of distance.

Hi!

I've been trying to get some long runs in as I have a 1/2 on june 5th but i've been having pain on the inside of my legs (shins) for a few weeks now. I got new running shoes last week (Brooks Ghost 3) but my legs are still sore. I don't want to push too hard and then not be able to run on the 5th but I'm worried that I haven't trained enough to finish. I don't know what to do. :confused3:sad2:

Sarah - what is the longest run you've had recently? At this point, I'm thinking your most important goal is to get healthy. You also don't want to hurt yourself so bad that you miss the Disneyland half.

I think at this point, I would go to a Sports Medicine Doctor and get evaluated. It is entirely possible that it could be your shoes even though you got new ones, or just your training plan. But, they should be able to figure out what needs to be changed so that you can run pain free in a couple weeks. Definitely don't delay on this one. I have been there and it isn't fun but the reason I like Sports Medicine Doctors so much is because they look at the big picture when evaluating injuries and have the goal of getting you to finish that race coming up! Please keep us posted!

Sounds like you are doing the San Diego Rock & Roll.
I'm doing that one too!
Can't wait.
I've been doing lots of training and 5, 8 and 10Ks to get ready.

Sorry to see your having problems training.
Just take it easy and you'll do fine!
See you there! :cool1:

Sarah~ one of the trainers at my gym showed me a move to strengthen the muscle behind the shin bone. She told me the soreness is sometimes do to the imbalance in strength b/w your calf muscles and the muscles behind the shin bone. If you belong to a gym, you can use a heavy weight, like a 25lb round weight or if you don't belong to a gym, you can use something heavy or even a couch. What you do is sit in a chair or bench place the weight on your toes, with your legs at a 90degree angle bent at the knees. Then just using the front part of your foot and your toes, lift the weight for 15-20 reps on each foot, 3-4 times on each foot. If you use a couch, you can do the same thing, sitting on the edge of a coffee table or even standing. Hope your legs get better for SD!

I did 7 miles on May 9th.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to see if I can find a Sports Medicine Doctor in my area.

Yep, the SD R&R. :thumbsup2

Thanks! My sister was telling me the same thing. I'm going to try this when I get home.

I'm running the SD RnR 1/2 on June 5th as well. I have a 10 mile run scheduled for this Sunday. I'm nervous and excited about the run. I ran my 1st 1/2 January 16th, did the AZ RnR 1/2. I hit the wall hardcore at mile 10. Prior to the 1/2 marathon, the furthest I had run was 7.2 miles. Hoping the 10 mile run this Sunday will help me avoid hitting wall at mile 10 for SD! :confused3

I got new shoes in February and continued to experience pains I had never had before. I finally bought a new pair of shoes and my pains have gone away. It might be the shoes.. At least that was my experience earlier this year.

After spending $99 on shoes I don't want to go buy another pair. :lmao: I did go to a running store and ran on a treadmill and they supposedly fit me with the correct shoe for how I run. :confused3

I figure since the SD R&R has a time limit of 4 hours I'm probably just going to have to fast walk the race and not try to improve on my last 1/2 Marathon time. I'll save that for Disneyland. :rotfl:

I'm going to stay off my feet until the weekend and probably try to do 10 miles (even if I have to walk it) just to try and get some miles in.

I'm nervous becasue I will be running this one by myself and will probably be going down to SD and staying in the hotel by myself becasue my DBF has to work.
