Off Topic: Teen tasered at Magic Kingdom

My son got a root canal yesterday and he was telling me how he was drooling on the receptionist's desk and another glob went on his check. They should have tasered him!

I know I'm in the minority on this topic but I really don't think we should be gloating - come on fess up, you're really gloating that this happened not just at WDW but at MK! Yes, maybe we should file the info. away for future reference, but let's not celebrate over such an unfortunate event.

Who me??? :surfweb:

No, Calgarygary is absolutely right. Nobody should be celebrating the fact that it happened at Disney rather than Universal. However, most of the "gloating" posts here also have additions saying exactly that it could happen anywhere. I don't think anybody is celebrating that it actually happened at Disney. I think all of us realize that it could have just as easily happened at Universal rather than WDW. Gloating a bit maybe, but not about the act that happened, but about the usual tone of some of the anti-Universal posts here.

I personally hate to see this anywhere. Heck, we just had a couple of high school kids who thought it would be a great senior prank to show up to school a few hours early in camo and ski masks. This caused a full forced swat team response, closed the school for the day along with 19 buildings at the neighboring University of Colorado, made national news and pretty much terrorized the rest of the kids in our district. If the kids had been caught that morning, I am sure there would have been much more than tasers going off. And this is also in a place where we are under the pixiedust-like illusion that we live in a rather safe utopia. You are going to have rotten kids, even violent kids/teens/adults even in the most magical of places.

If I am celebrating, I am celebrating the fact that Disney is finally allowing stories like this to become public. They have bent over backwards to sweep this kind of behavior under the rug to preserve the magic for so long that I believe some people might feel "too" safe there. I think they forget that while magical, it is still a place where thousands upon thousands of people from every different walks of life are visiting. And statistically, that will include some rather unsavory people.

So, I will apologize if my :stir: was misinterpreted as celebrating. I hate that it happened there. Just as much as I would have hated it happening in Universal, Sea World, or in a local city park somewhere. But after the beatings we have recently taken over here, a bit of gloating is understandable

Did the dentist call security? Shame on your parenting skills. Teaching your son it is ok to drool while having his mouth pried open and metal instruments gouging around in there. :goodvibes

Celebrating or gloating whatever you want to call it is in fact mildly justified in this case - we just came off of a "Uniphile" high while defending our beloved US/IOA and this just puts a chinck in the armor of WDW. Maybe people will wake up and realize that we live in 2007 and that there are bad/violent/rude people EVERYWHERE including that mystical magical fantasy land.

I think I am PMSing too goofy! So :stir: away!!! :rotfl2: :lmao:

Two people came into the office to see what I was laughing about!:rotfl:

This thread is slowly taking a downhill spiral.

I like it!!

Yes, it can happen anywhere. Maybe Disney has been taking perps down the same doors and hallways that characters mysteriously come from. Getting "Goofy justice"!!

People from Long Island spitting and cursing. At WDW?? What utter, and sheer disgust I feel. They needed to all be tasered. Those long islanders, just cannot behave I tell ya.

I was gonna say "Damn Long Islanders!"
:rotfl:

Seriously though, I went to school with that guys brother (guilfoil). I kid you not. I grew up in Mastic, which is right next to Shirley. I'm not gonna slander anyone, but I will say that I'm so not surprised. So not.

I was just making a joke I am from Long Island too. But, I never spit or curse. Hmm. I don't remember if I ever did. :rotfl: :rotfl:

It happens all over. Just everyone thinks because they come here on vacation, we have no crime. We need to keep our eyes and ears open. Here is an incident from yesterday:

Bulletproof Vest Displayed After Saving Deputy's Life

POSTED: 4:34 pm EDT May 31, 2007

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. -- The sheriff's office is showing the bulletproof vest that saved the life one of the deputies who was shot, Wednesday.

The suspects were actually using the same type of gun Orange County deputies carry. The round that was fired is 45-caliber. It hit Deputy Siller's vest and angled in. Just a couple of inches the other way and it could have been a fatal heart shot.

The round left a large mark on the vest. Despite the stopping power of the bullet, deputies said, the veteran lawman was able to help capture the three suspects in his own shooting. It was only later the shock set in and he was airlifted to the hospital.

Siller was able to leave Orlando Regional Medical Center with a clean bill of health.

Thursday, sheriff's commanders praised his valor under heavy fire and reminded everyone of just how valuable the vests are.

"The shot would have been right here. So it would have gone right through his heart. It very well could have been a fatal shot," said Cpt. Mark Strobridge, Orange County Sheriff's Office.

While the vest stopped the bullet, the round was traveling at about 1000 feet-per-second. That results in some bad bruising, leaving the deputy very sore.

Because of the damage to his vest, he gets issued a new one, perhaps fittingly made by a company called Second Chance.

And here is the story on the drunken teens tasered at disney:

5 People Detained In Alleged Disney World Brawl With Deputy

POSTED: 12:00 pm EDT May 22, 2007
UPDATED: 2:33 pm EDT May 22, 2007

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Five people who reportedly spat on and swore at Walt Disney World patrons were arrested after they allegedly punched a sheriff's deputy in the face, officials said.

The suspects, all from Shirley, N.Y., ranged in age from 20 to 14 years old. Disney security told authorities they may have been intoxicated.

The five were in a Disney security office when the deputy arrived, and Brian Guilfoil, 19, was threatening security, according to the report. The officer intervened, and the rest of the suspects allegedly rushed over.

"I was punched in the face with closed fists several times by all the defendants," the deputy wrote. "I defended myself by throwing counter punches in their faces and bodies in an attempt to break free."

The suspects surrounded the deputy and intermittently attacked as he turned, the report said.

The deputy used a Taser stun gun on a 17-year-old girl after she allegedly punched a security officer, and then everyone came under control, according to the report.

All five were arrested on charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence. The 17-year-old also faced charges of battery on a uniformed officer.

Guilfoil and Rose DiPietro, 20, were each released Monday on $2,300 bond. The Associated Press is withholding the names of the other three suspects, who are underage. Authorities would not say Tuesday if the youths were still in custody.

A telephone message left at DiPietro and Guilfoil's telephone number was not immediately returned Tuesday.

"Behavior like this is not tolerated at the Walt Disney World resort," Disney spokeswoman Zoraya Suarez said. "That's why we rely on the Orange County Sheriff's Office to assist us in situations like these."
