Off-Topic sub board

SHould families have two different boards, one for Disney threads and one of others p

  • Yes! It would be easier to find what I am interested in.

  • No. I'd rather just come to one place, WDW related or not.

It seems that every other thread on the board is off topic. I think Dis parents are great for sharing thoughts on many topics and that's just great. However, given that there are sub boards for alot of the other boards, some of which are more on topic that these threads here. I have to ask, who would like to see a seperate board for off-topic parenting questions and leave "disney for families" a disney related board?

I think that would be great. Of course..that would give me yet one more board to read.... GO FOR IT!!!

I think that would be great!!!! Sometimes I have to go a week or so without reading and it's so hard to weed through everything to find the "important" Disney stuff. Other times I read multiple times per day and enjoy reading the OT stuff, too.

I am not a big fan of sub boards because I always forget to look at them! That's just me though!

just move them to the community board:thumbsup2

Sorry, but I don't like the idea. Who is to say what is "on" topic and what is "off" topic? I love the fact that we can all discuss topics other than Disney - its very nice. Also, I just think its much easier and faster to get the information you need when everyone is on one board. One vote for keeping it the same!

First of all, SharpMomOfTwo, your eyes WILL tear up the whole time you're there - just wait until they see their first princess!!!

But I think it's pretty easy to determine what is on topic and what is not. And sometimes I feel myself getting "sucked in" to the off topic threads when that's not what I came here to read. I'd love to see two different boards!

The problem is that the moderators (like me) would have to spenda lot of time moving threads. You wouldn't think that would be the case, but it would happen. Mostly to new posters who just found the boards, but also to the rest of us who would put things in the wrong place by accident.

As for moving stuff to the community board -- a lot of posters just frequent one or two DIS boards for their daily fix. They think of the board they frequent as almost their DIS family. You can ask questions and know that they will be seen by the folks you "talk to." I think a lot of posters here like that.

OK, but maybe just a stroller sub board. Because on any given day there are at least 10 new stroller threads popping up.
The answer to many of which will probably be "MacLaren" :rotfl:

(I'm only 1/2 kidding)

As a rather new poster, I would say two boards is ok but I don't like the idea of moving the OT posts to the community board. I come right to the Families board because I like hearing stuff about Disney AND OT stuff and I often have questions on both...usually the OT stuff is very family centered and I think people are asking them on the DisneyFamilies board because they feel they are among "their people".

:thumbsup2

The board is called "Disney for Families". I think its pretty clear what the topic should be.

And I do love the moderators, cant live without you, but I don't think making your job easier is a reason to leave "Disney for Families" clogged with things like, Baby shower ideas, and YMCA, and school lunches.

On second thought, I think your totally right - how dare these people come on to YOUR disboards and have a normal conversations with other people about something OTHER than Disney :rotfl: . Where do they get the nerve?!? I think you need to take a deep breath, and realize that
#1 - You don't have to come into the Disboards if you don't like what you see.
#2 - If you do come on here, and you see a thread that isn't Disney related, you don't have to read it!

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but you really remind me of the off-topic thread that was recently on here about the kindergarten mom who asked the teacher to tell little Timmy not to talk about his Disney trip so not to spoil her daughters upcoming trip. People are going to chat about other topics, and I personally think its great, I don't think its "clogged," I think its a wonderful melting pot of different people, thoughts and questions. I have several friends in the "real world", but sometimes I don't want to ask them certain questions for whatever reason, and I really like the fact that I can come on here and get real opinions from real people that aren't going to sugar-coat anything. Is there somewhere else I could go? I'm sure there is, but I really like (most) of the people on here, and I like hearing what they have to say, and I hope they feel the same about myself and everyone else. I say down with the censorship!

Edit - I just want to say that I, nor anyone else wants to see you or anyone else leave due to this silly subject. Don't get your panties in a bunch just because others want to converse about something other than Disney, its just not worth it!

OT for Sharmp Mom....I teared up last year for my DS's first trip...I chalked it up to pregnancy hormones. I just got my disney planning dvd and teared up through almost the whole thing....apparently it wasn't the pregnancy hormones at work. I'll just have to keep my sunglasses on when we go in May. :cool2:

I think it is confusing for newbies to clogg up the board with off topic posts.

I can only speak for myself, but I will say that I think we moderators try to add a "family" feeling to all the boards and that to do so we broaden the spectrum of what's included. The budget board isn't all about budgeting strictly for Disney trips, the teen board isn't all about teens discussing Disney trips, the wedding board isn't all about Disney weddings and the Gay and Lesbian board isn't all about gay and lesbian trips to Disney.

If all threads that didn't fall totally under the topic of the respective board were moved then the community board would fly so quickly that a post would disappear off page 1 within minutes of being posted.

And I think people find a safety in posting on the board they call home. Perhaps they wouldn't want to add there comments somewhere else.

I voted for staying the same. I just started CVSing (thanks budget board!!!!) and Expotving (again, budget board) which I never would have done without them being on the regular disboards. I don't think I've ever even clicked on the community board.

I also just posted an OT thread & LOVED everyone's input and was so grateful to have a place of parents who are basically in my same age/financial/interests bracket to help me with my decisions. If I see an OT before a thread I generally don't click on them, but every once in awhile they are invaluable to me. And it doesn't bother me to just have them there.

I say leave it be, official "Disney for families" title or not.

why not add "family chat" to the title then?:confused3
