I'm guessing the home reno tax credit was just for 1 tax year, as in 2009? Can anyone clarify that it is not an ongoing thing...we used it last year for our pool, but would consider doing other upgrades this year if it is yearly.

No it was for anything done up to January 31, 2010. It's over now.
