Off topic - any recommendations on Washington, D.C. hotels?

I work in DC, really close to L'enfant Plaza and the Capitol Holiday Inn. Both are very nice establishments (I've stayed in them both). The advantage to those places is that you won't need to get on Metro and can walk to most of the Smithsonian museums. I'm not sure how much they cost though...

I would really recommend the Residence Inn in Arlington (Rosslyn). Like a PP said, it has breakfast (eggs, a waffle maker, juices, etc.) each morning. They also have yummy cookies at the front desk all day & night. I stayed there on a weekend & IIRC the rate was only about $90 a night or so.

DC's a great vacation spot, but since I work there, I get envious seeing families on vacation when I'm working :( Plus people that work here just don't take advantage of all the fabulous things in DC. Enjoy!

Thanks for the info. I wasn't too sure about L'enfant Plaza or Capital Holiday Inn. The reviews were mixed especially for L'enfant Plaza. Thats really what we want is to be close to museums and the Mall. To use the metro but not have to depend on it.

Thank you for all the replies. We'd probably go for 3-4 nights and am looking at probably staying in D.C. We do have it narrowed down but can't seem to make a decision. Holiday Inn at the Capitol, L'enfant Plaza Hotel, Renassiance - Capitol, and Palomar. For outside D.C. - looking at Embassy Suites - king street Alexandria, Marriott in Arlington.

Aughhh - too many decisions! Thanks for all the tips. I'll check out the other hotels mentioned.

Thanks again. I appreciate the info. It truly helps weed through all the hotels to read personal accounts. I've read a lot of reviews on TripAdvisor and other sites but its overwhelming!!!!
I live in DC and think you have excellent choices. Depending on what you're looking for (e.g., style over space), I really like the Kimpton Hotels (of which the Palomar is one) -- unless you need a larger room, I think you'll be quite pleased staying there. The Holiday Inn isn't in a bad location (though I can't vouch for the interior), and the L'Enfant Plaza is in a decent location where you can walk to some of the Smithsonian and monuments. Old Town Alexandria is adorable (King Street is the main drag, and the Embassy Suites is at the end close to the Metro -- you can take a shuttle or longish walk down to the stores and restaurants). Feel free to let me know if you need more options or have specific questions or need recs for restaurants, etc.

DisneyfanDC, I would love restaurant recs. We are scheduled to leave for DC tomorrow and are staying through Easter for the White House egg roll.

I'm nervous to go during a holiday weekend. We are staying at the Beacon Hotel. It has a kitchenette but we would probably prefer to go out once or twice.

We prefer something family friendly and very clean. LOL!

Thanks for any advice. We have ressies at Mt. Vernon Inn for Easter Sunday, but I'm not sure if that is a good idea or not.

JW Marriott is great. We also like Marriott Meto Center and Renaissance on 9th st. Those Marriotts have a pool, Ren does not.

Ah, I am so so so sorry that I didn't see this until today -- I would have LOVED to give you restaurant recs! Hope you had a great time!

We stayed at the HoJo in Cheverly Maryland. It was a nice hotel with a free breakfast. There is a metro station close and they even have a shuttle to take you and pick you up that is free. I want to say the room was $60 a night.. had a fridge... big room.. staff was great.. I would stay there again. The drive into DC by car was maybe 15 minutes.. not bad but I preferred the Metro cuz parkign is expensive and a nightmare.
