Off to Cardiff Hard Rock Cafe this weekend

We are off to the Cardiff Hard Rock Cafe this weekend. We are taking my friend and her husband for my friend's 40th birthday present.

Hope to get a new Hard Rock T shirt. Have already been and got the glass so can't add any more to the collection this time.

Will probably watch the match in our hotel room as I guess England might not be too popular in Wales. Mark is from Scotland and won't be bothered whether we watch or not. I am a bit upset to miss the other match (as have drawn Brazil in the sweepstake at work!) but we have booked our table for 7.45.

Hope to get to Cardiff early and do some shopping etc.

Any suggestions where to go?

You might be a little surprised at how many people will actually be watching the match here, all the pubs and hotels will have the game on live, there are a few people who dont support them, but generally we Welsh are good sports and will get behind and support the England team. Cant say we would be so generous if they were playing against Wales in the world cup but hey we can always dream

Onto more important things though shopping, welcome to shopping heaven: we have a few large shopping centres for you to visit, I have put the links below for you, also we have a very large Ikea, at a retail park not too far from the town centre, can I also suggest if you have the time that you visit our Cardiff Bay area a fairly new development, which has loads of pubs, cafes, and loads of outside entertainment on a nice summers day. You can catch the bendy bus there or pick up a cab from the town centre which would cost around £4-£5 for the 4 of you.

There is a great indoor market in the middle of St Marys Street and if your looking to pick up some genuine American Double Stuff Oreos, visit the food hall at the large department store called James Howells right in the middle of the city.

Just to echo what Sue has said, you really are spoilt for choice, The weather forecast is fab for tomorrow, so a walk around Cardiff Bay would be lovely - there are loads of restaurants and bars with outside seating, and they often have street entertainers in the summer or on weekends.

If it's shopping you want, there aren't really any shops at the Bay, but in town, Howells is a v big House of Fraser really close to the Hard Rock Cafe, and there are also loads of little arcades around there with lots of individual boutiques etc. Other than that, there is just about every high street store you could think of.

Also close to the Hard Rock Cafe is the Old Brewery Quarter - its a smallish entrance off the street, but it opens out into a really nice open air area with lots of bars and restaurants - it will be lovely in the sunshine.

I'm a bit biased, but Cardiff is a lovely city. I'm sure you'll have a wonderful time!

Would the pubs and bars let Kirsty (12 years) into them? I know when we were in Devon the pubs allowed children but not too sure about town centres?

DD and I were in Cardiff last night packing up the last of her belongings from her uni accommodation - I wish we'd managed to pop into the Hard Rock Cafe while we were there!

Another vote for Howells' food hall (my secret supply of Reeces Peanut Cups are from there!)

we went to the cardiff HRC a few weekends ago for my dads 60th birthday, he love the hard rock and we goes to them wherever they go when they are away, and has all the tshirts! but he had never been to the cardiff one, we booked it as a surprise and we had a great time.
I emailed the manager Rosie before hand and we had balloons on the table, we also paid extra to have the hard rock cake, it was great staff were fab, have a great time.

You shouldn't have a problem at all, particularly as she is 12, and most of the nice bars serve food, so you often see children in them. We have never had a problem with DD who is 6 but knows how sit nicely! There aren't that many traditional 'old man' pubs left in the city centre, but that's probably not what you were looking for.

If you go around the back of St Mary's Street which is where the Hard Rock Cafe and the front of Howell's is, there is an area called on Mill Street where there are lots of restaurants and bars, with lots of outside seating. It's very continental in the summer.

Another thing I thought of (involving alcohol, see how my thought process goes!)- near the top of the main pedesarian street (Queen Street - has M&S, Next etc), there is a little street off there called Park Place, and just around the corner, there is a hotel called the Park Plaza - it's very contemporary, and they have an awesome cocktail menu in the Laguna bar / restaurant - they make a mean Mojito!

I agree, I have taken my daughter in plenty of bars in the city centre throughout the day esp those that serve food. Mill Lane is an excellent choice if the weather is great to sit outside. I also agree on the Park Plaza, we went in there the other night and the food was excellent. The weather forecast seems really good, so I hope you have a wonderful time.

We have not been to the Leeds one so hope to come up soon. The ones in the UK we have been to are London, Edinburgh, Nottingham, Birmingham and Manchester and there used to be one at Oasis (now Centre Parcs) but that has gone. We have all the glasses. Have also been 6 in USA, cancun, paris, amsterdam, barcellona and madrid. My friends have given me a glass for Rome and Dubia but don't count these as I think it would be better to have visited ourselves!!

My DD is now collecting the pins too. Need to go now as have to pick up my friend at 9.30

We are back and we had a great time. Thanks for everyone's help. The England match kind of took over on Saturday but we still managed to get loads of shopping done. We spotted the shop assistant in Rebel Rebel (sort of gothic shop) with crocs on.

Hard Rock Cafe was great as usual and I got a really nice t shirt and a pin for Kirsty.

Walked down to the bay early this morning and it was such a nice day (will post photos tomorrow hopefully)

We decided to go home via the Hard Rock Cafe Bar in Bristol only to find it has shut down! We did take a photo outside the old premises though.

Had lunch on a floating boat cafe and all had ice creams before we headed home for London.

So nice to have a weekend away.
