Our trip to AKL ~ WDW started on Sept. 3rd thru the 12th. It was me, DH and DS 6. So, we drove down to Daytona and stayed at my aunts house, then we headed over to AKL!! Of course the lodge was perfect as always, we were greeted with a "welcome home" from the bellhop who unloaded our car, ( cannot remember his name - sorry). Upon entering the lobby, the smells were amazing, it was fantastic! So, we walked right up to the desk, no waiting in line, and Alan checked us in, our room was ready, and much to our delight, we were complimentary upgraded AGAIN, to a deluxe savannah view room. :banana: We were on the 3rd floor which we prefer, since it's lobby level, we had the BEST view, we were just to the left of Arusha Rock on the Kudu trail. We had giraffe, zebra, ankole, pelicans, ducks, it was amazing. We could see Arusha rock IMMEDIATELY to our right and we could see the fire pit, so one night while we were in our room, we actually could hear the story from our balcony before we headed out again! About 5 minutes, literally, after we got to our room, the housekeeping manager came to our room, introduced himself and told us who our housekeeper was going to be and to let him know if we needed anything....... this was the first time this happened, but not the last, he came again about day 5 or 6 and asked if things were OK, if our room was satisfactory and if our housekeeper had been doing a good job!!! Again, this was something we'd never encountered before, and I must say, our room was impeccable everyday!! (Yes, we even got a cute towel animal). So, we unpacked, and headed over to downtown disney!!! The bus was empty, so we were very happy and hopeful that the whole trip would be this way........... HA!!!! So, we got to downtown disney and headed over to World of Disney to get DS his pirate hat. After that and some more shopping, we went to Rainforest Cafe for lunch, I have to tell you, I was somewhat apprehensive, due to reports about this place, but we were VERY happy with out meals. DH was very impressed with the fact that our waiter asked where we were from, and when he learned we were from La. he asked DH if he wanted his food "spicy", well, it was SO GOOD that DH is still raving about how good it was!!! A+ for Rainforest Cafe!!

* We had -
DH - Pastalaya - tea / A++/ $18.99 + 1.99
Me - Awesome Appetizer Adventure (we all shared, it was a lot of food) - diet coke / A+ / $15.00 + 1.99
DS - Python Pasta & light up drink / A+ / $5.99 +$1.99
Total = $45.95 Excludes tax and tip. (We left an additonal tip on all meals)

Then we headed over to Magic Kingdom - OMG was it crowded!!! It got even more crowded as the night went on, being the EMH day! We went to pirates first, and amazingly enough, only waited about 10 min. Then we headed over to Tomorrowland and Buzz, where the wait was considerably longer!!

We had dinner at Chef Mickey's that night and it was good as always! ( I will list what we had and the cost, even though we were on the free dining.)

* Chef Mickey's Buffet
DH - B/ $27.99
Me - B/ $27.99
DS - A/ $12.99
Total = $68.97 Excludes Tax & tip.

We headed back to the lodge at around midnight, and of course the bus was fairly empty. The wait time for the bus the entire stay was minimal to no wait at all, and on most occassions practically emtpy.

Day 2

We got a later start after getting in so late, we skipped breakfast and headed over to Animal Kingdom, it was labor day and beyond crowded!!! It was crazy!! We did Kilimanjaro Safari, the wait was about 25 min. it was a great ride as always. We headed over to it's tough to be a bug, and that was really fun, again, the wait was around 20 min. or so. then we headed to flametree for lunch, it was Amazing!! In our opinions this is the BEST bbq at all of WDW!!!

* We had
DH - Smoked 1/2 Chicken - chocolate cake - frozen lemonade / A+ / $7.99 + $2.79 + $2.99
Me - Smoked pork sandwich - key lime pie - diet coke / A+ / $7.29 + $2.79 + $2.39
DS - hot dog - chocolate cake - frozen lemonade / $3.99 (they did not charge for his cake).
Total = $30.23 excludes tax and tip.

Then DH headed to Everest, and it was CLOSED!!!! on a holiday, with HUGE crowds, it was closed -- NO he was not a happy camper!! Then we decided to go to dinoland, we did primeval whirl and triceratops spin, then we headed to dinosaur, YEP, you guessed it CLOSED!!!!!!! NOW, DH was getting really irritated, it was hot, crowded and the Major rides are Closed!!! Things were NOT looking too good for today!!! We decided to just head back to the room to get showers and ready for Cape May Clambake!!

We headed over to the beach club, which is a gorgeous resort!! We enjoyed the clambake buffet, the food was really good, we had hoped for more seafood choices though. We waited about 15 minutes for a table.

*We all had the buffet.
2 adult buffets $ 25.99 + child $11.99 + 2 diet coke, sprite and beer = $8.00 We'd give this a B rating, only because we'd hoped for more seafood choices.

Total = $71.97 excludes tax and tip.

After dinner we decided to head over to MK and it was really crowded too, we hoped that the rest of the week would make up for the last two days!!! So we went back to the lodge and went to Victoria Falls lounge, DH and I got frozen drinks, but I don't remember the names and DS got a shirley temple, then we went and let DS watch cartoons in the lobby while we enjoyed our drinks.

Day 3

Today we headed over to Epcot and it was EMPTY!!!! YEAH!!!! We pretty much walked onto all the rides, I did try out Mission Space, the "wimpy" one, it was fun, but I got a little queazy!!! We rode on Test track about 8 times in a row, in fact the first couple of times we didn't even have to get out of the car, we just stayed on!!! That was great!! DS loved this ride, it is really fun!! We did Soarin', it was great as always, we did turtle talk and DS loved this again. He didn't want to do the kidcot stations this time, so we skipped that, but he really enjoyed doing it on the last trip. We saw that they have a blue wall up for the new Nemo ride!! Can hardly wait for that!! After doing EVERYTHING in future world we headed to Sunshine Seasons for lunch, it was really good!!

* We got

( I do not remember the names of the entree's, but it was basically chinese food)
DH - Asian 2 sides - cheesecake - coke / B / $9.69 + $4.99 + $2.09
Me - Asian 1 side - flower cup dessert - diet coke / B / $7.69 + $4.99 + $2.09
DS - Mac n Cheese - carrot cake - sprite / $ 3.99 + $2.99 + $1.99

Total = $40.51 excludes tax and tip.

After that we headed to world showcase. We started in Mexico, since we were eating at Le Cellier for dinner, we thought we'd slowly work our way around to Canada. We finally rode the el rio del tiempo boat ride in Mexico, wow, we'd never done this and it's really neat!!! We enjoyed it! We each got a margarita, which were soooo good! We really took our time and explored each country, took tons of pictures and enjoyed the shops. DS picked a pearl for me in Japan, it is a gorgeous 7mm pearl, that I had put into a silver setting, I did not get the chain, as I have one already. The cost was $14.98 for the pearl, $18.00 for the setting. The prices vary a lot depending on what type of setting you want and if you choose a chain. We did the american adventure, it was really good, DS fell asleep as it started and we had to wake him up to leave. It was a good cat nap! Finally we made our way to Canada and checked in at Le Cellier about 20 min. early, we got in about 15 min. later!!! It was fantastic as always, however, the place was packed!!! We did NOT feel rushed or hurried in any way, and the service was excellent.

*We had
DH - Beef Kabob - 7oz. Filet - Whiskey Cake - beer-tea / A+ / $53.06
Me - Shrimp Cocktail - Mushroom Filet - Creme Brulee - diet coke/ A+ / $ $46.06
DS - hot dog - campfire smores - northern lights drink / A+/ $ 14.97

Total = $114.09 excludes tax and tip.

What were you orginally booked for room wise before you got upgraded? I only ask because I am taking my mother for her birthday for 5 days last week in Sept and we are booked in standard room at AKL and i am really hoping for an upgrade.

Hi, we were booked standard. This is the second time we've booked standard and been complimentary upgraded to deluxe savanna view.

I think it just depends on the time frame you are going. Last time it was in Jan./Feb. - very low crowds and this time we were told the resort was only at about 30% capacity.

Good Luck

Sounds like you all are having fun despite the day at AK. Your meals sound wonderful I cant wait to go and eat. :rotfl2: We decided to do the dining plan for the first time. I cant wait to see the pics and hear the rest. :thumbsup2

You said you were on the 3rd floor for a deluxe savanna view .. I thought the deluxe rooms were on the 5th and 6th floors.

I'm just trying to get this straight in my mind for my trip in March.

We booked standard view rooms both trips. Both times we checked in, we were specifically told that we had been complimentary upgraded to deluxe savanna view, both times we were on the 3rd floor. We had guaranteed non-smoking, and bunkbeds both times also. I know that concierge rooms are on the 5th and 6th floors. As for deluxe rooms, I'm only going by what we were told at check-in. I have read reports that some deluxe rooms were on the 4th floor also. I have also read that they are changing room categories in '07.

Hope this helps.

We did have a good trip!!! As for the food.......... oh my, it is sooooo much food!!!! Bon Appetite!!! Enjoy!!

I'm working on the pics!!!

Hi Wendy, I am really enjoying your trip report... wow 2 big rides closed at DAK, that's no good on a busy day.

I didn't realize there were deluxe rooms on the 3rd floor - for some reason I thought they were on 4 & 5 only.

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your stay and oh.... the food!

Thanks for the trip report! We are headed to AKL in two weeks and I am getting so excited about it. It is my favorite resort. Glad to hear that housekeeping was so good. I can't wait to sit by the fire and see the animals, etc. My kids love it there!

Wonderful pictures Wendy! I hope I find Daisy out while we are there. Oh I am also am looking forward to seeing Jack Sparrow :teeth:

Day 4

Today we had the Mickey's Magical Milestones Tour, so we had to be at MK by 8:30, so we got checked in and met the others on the tour, there were 2 couples who were together and one other lady, so there were 8 of us total. Our guide was James and he was really nice. We started off at the Emporium and then got on the train, we had to actually draw a picture of mickey while riding on the trian!! Yeah, that was funny!! Then we got to Toontown, it was great, we had a private tour of Mickey's house and Mickey himself came in and gave autographs and took pics with us in his house. Then we moved along over to Philharmagic, entering the VIP section!! After that we had a private meeting with Donald and got a lovely "surprise", I won't give it away in case anyone who hasn't been on the tour reads this!! The tour was 2 hours, that went by REALLY quickly and it was fun, we probably wouldn't do it again, as most of the "info" we already knew, but meeting Mickey privately in his house was great!!! After the tour we were starving, so we headed over to Cosmic Rays for lunch. As always it was good.

*We had
DH - 1/2 rib-chicken combo - coke - cake/ A / $18.57
Me - rib dinner -dietcoke-cake/ A/ $13.57
DS - hot dog-fries-sprite/ A/ $7.88

Total = $40.03 exludes tax and tip.

After lunch we went on the speedway and then started out in Tomorrowland, we did Buzz a few times, then DH and DS went on Stitch........ I opted out of this one, and browsed Star Traders. Then we went on Carousel of Progress, which we love, and we worked our way around to Toontown again, then Fantasyland, finally we arrived at Pirates.......... wow, we pretty much walked onto everything today, crowds were not bad at all. After we rode the ride and bought some pirate pistols, I asked the clerk what time they did the tutorial, he said in about 5 min. So we walked over and waited for Captain Jack. WOW, this guy was amazing, he had all the mannerisms and was just great. DS got picked to be in the show, and he really LOVED it, he also got a certificate stating he is now in Captain Jacks crew!!! A funny thing also happened, there was a photographer there who came up to DH after the show and told us he was a Disney Promotional / Advertising Photographer or something like that, (this was NOT a cast member taking pics OR the one's doing photopass) anyway, he had his credentials he showed us, he said he had taken some photo's of DS, and wanted us to sign a release form to allow Disney to use the photo's in it's advertising!! Wow, how cool is that!!! SO, look for DS!!! That is some great pixie dust!! We then rode the ride again and headed over to the haunted mansion. We headed back to fantasyland and rode everything again, then we decided to head back to the room to rest a little and get ready for dinner at Kona Cafe!

We got to the Poly........ Oh, how I love this resort!!! It is always great, we were early on purpose so we could tour the resort, but we checked in and were seated right away. I have to tell you that if you've never eaten at Kona, like us, it is an absolute MUST!!!!!!!!!! It was the BEST meal of our trip!! Our server, Dimitry, was amazing! I loved it so much, we ate here again on our 9th night!!!!

*We had
DH - stickywings- Mahi Mahi- cheesecake- Mai Tai / A+/ $47.17
Me - crabcakes-shrimp&scallops-creme brulee-Kona sundowner-diet coke / A+/$46.61
DS - Pasta - root beer/ A+/ $7.68

Total = $101.46 excludes tax and tip.

After Kona, we shopped in the 2 stores at the Poly. We then headed back to the resort since it was raining hard. We hung out at the resort to get ready for the next day!!

Day 5

Today we headed over to MGM, it was fantastic, the crowds were really low and we actually did everything!!! I mean every ride and show!!! I don't know how we managed it, but when we returned to the room that night, we were amazed at how much we had been able to do!!! The stunt show is great, we all enjoyed that a lot. I had never seen beauty and the beast, it was great. DS enjoyed playouse disney live and the little mermaid. We had lunch at the ABC commissary, it was OK. There aren't too many counter service places at MGM to choose from.

*We had
DH - Cuban-diet coke-choc.mousse/ B/ $12.97
Me - Stir Fry noodles-diet coke-stawberry parfait/ B/ $12.37

DS had Pizza from Pizza planet, sprite, rice krispie treat/ B/ $12.17

Total = $38.04 excludes tax and tip.

After lunch we did more rides and shows, DH did tower of terror and rock'n roller coaster while we watched beauty and the beast. It was raining and after he rode those we decided to head back to the resort to shower and rest awhile. We had dinner at Boma, and I must say, much to my surprise, it was disappointing!! I think we must've hit them on a bad night or something, but they were packed!!! Even trying to get food was a challenge with so many people, and most of the items were not hot and the flavor was lacking. I'm not sure what the problem was, but it was not the Boma we love!!! Our server, Victor was a lovely treat though, he was also amazed at the number of people there!! I've never seen it that busy!! After dinner we went back to MGM, it was EMH ( I think) and we saw fantasmic, wow, what an amazing show, we'd never seen it, so it was really a nice end to the night!!

*Boma Dinner Buffet
$ 63.97 excluding tax and tip.
We also had 2 beers and a frozen drink $25.00

Day 6

Today DS and I just wanted to hang out by the pool while DH played golf at the Magnolia Course. He really enjoyed it and wants to play again on our next trip. The course was great he said! DS and I ate breakfast at Mara then headed to the pool, we loved the slide, it was really fun!! Later in the afternoon, DS went and built a birdhouse, which was an activity they have for the kids, he really enjoyed that. Then we went and had lunch at Mara, and went up to the room to get ready to head to Epcot. DH got back from golf and we all went to epcot and rode the rides and then shopped till time for dinner at Coral Reef. Today it seemed really crowded, even though it was early evening, and coral reef was packed!! We checked in early and waited 20 min. before we were seated. The food and view made up for it!!! We were seated at a booth right arcross from the tank, it was fantastic!!! DS loved it, we saw divers who waved and made funny faces, plus the sharks, fish, etc.... it was awesome. Our waitress Jenny, was also fantastic, she was on top of everything and brought DS toys to play with! The food was also fantastic, I'd read bad reviews, but we loved the food and will go back!!!

*We had
DH - Crab claws -NY strip- diet coke- beer- wave dessert / A+ / $58.51
Me - Crab claws - Tuna steak - diet coke - wave / A+/ $48.26
DS - lobster soup - mahi mahi - blue whale light up drink -sundae/ A+ / $21.53

Total = $128.30 excluding tax and tip.

After dinner we went and walked around world showcase again, we watched Illuminations, it was amazing. I got a glass of champagne from Paris and we had a wonderful night!

Day 7

We started out the day at Magic Kingdom around lunch time, it had been a late night at Epcot the night before, so we slept in. We headed over to Cosmic Rays and ate lunch.

*We had
DH - ribs dinner - cake- coke / A/ $13.57
Me - cheeseburger - brownie - diet coke/ A/ $11.97
DS - hot dog - fries - sprite/ A/ $7.88

Total = $33.42 excludes tax and tip.

After lunch we watched Cinderellabration then headed over to the jungle cruise and pirates, it was amazingly crowded today, lines were around 20 min. for everything. We pretty much rode rides and then watched the parade, which was good. Then we decided to head over to epcot for dinner at Garden Grill. We did Soarin before we checked in, and then waited about 10 min. before we were seated. This was an experience so hold on to your hats now!!! So, it started off OK, we got seated and sat!!! About 10 min. or so later our waiter shows up, takes our drink order, tells us how it works and leaves, about 10 min. later he brings our drinks and tells us our food will be out "shortly"!!!! So, a few min. later he brings out DS's mac'n cheese and then leaves again............. ???? DH was getting a little irritated now. About 5 min. later he brings our food, it is all on the same plate, so DH got 2 slices of sirloin strips, I got 2 slices of turkey, a few potatoes each and VERY few veg.s each, I got 3 quarter size pieces of fish and DH got 4. Now, these slices of meat were SO small, I'm not joking, it was almost funny!!! So, when he brings it, we ask for more drinks, as they were empty now. He brings drinks pretty quickly, the characters have all come twice now and DH is hungry!!! So about another 10 min. or so, he comes by again and we ask him for more food, now we've sat here approx. 34 to 40 minutes and DH is pretty much done!!! It was literally and I'm not kidding you another 20 minutes before we see him again!!! He has the food and starts to set it on the table when DH says, just bring the check, the waiter got really p*ssed at that and said, "you don't want the food" and DH said, "no, just the check, I'm tired of waiting", so waiter stomps off!! Well, DH is mad now, so DS and I get up to go to the bathroom, well, waiter brings back the check and THROWS it on the table, says NOTHING, and walks off........... OK so now you can imagine that DH is HOT!!!! He went straight to the manager, that is when DS and I come back, the manager claims she "just came on duty" and has NO idea what happened, ultimately, not doing anything to help. So, then we head over to guest services as DH is ready to blow!!! LOL, so they contact the Garden Grill, then AKL, where we get our TS credits back!! ( or so we thought)!!! So, we head back to the lodge to make sure things are good, they are, ( or so we thought) then we head to Mara so DH can eat!!! What a night, what a nightmare, we will obviously never return to Garden Grill, it was no fun at all, and the food was really not too good either, what little we had of it!!!

Day 8

Today we went to AK so DH could try for Everest again, it was open!!! Yeah!! So, we did the safari again, it was sooooooo crowded today!! We left AK and headed over to MK, it too was crowded, but OK, wait times were long about 20-40 min for some things. We had a late lunch today at Chef Mickey's and it was amazing!! The lunch buffet has ribs and they were good. The amazing thing though, we were over on the side by the kitchen doors, just where you go up the steps to that back area, anyway we were the ONLY one's there!!!! Literally, NO ONE else was there!!! It was so great, we pretty much had all the characters to ourselves!! Over in the other section, there were a few people, but where we were no-one!!! We got tons of pics and one on one time with all the characters, espcially Mickey and Minnie. It was funny, Mickey came and sat down at the table with DH while DS and I went to the bathroom, he just sat there with DH talking to him, waiting on us......... it was crazy!! NOW, this is where the "so we thought" comes in, we tried to "pay" for our meal, but the server says, it's only taking 2 TS credits........ What ??? We should have 5?? Apparently after having to pay oop, then go BACK to the lodge, apparently GG charged us the credits AGAIN, AFTER they had been credited back!!!!! So, we had to get them credited AGAIN!!! It was a hassle to have to deal with that...... DS said they did it on purpose to screw up our dining and our day!!! LOL Anyway, it got fixed!! So,after that we went back to MK and rode rides, but we headed out early and had dinner at Mara.

* We had
DH - Fish entree - coke- carrot cake / $13.38 (used mug for drink)
Me - Shrimp - diet coke /$9.49
DS - Cheese Pizza - strawberry milk/ $7.58

Total = $30.45 excludes tax and tip.

Day 9

Today we went to Epcot again so DS could test track some more, this was his favorite ride!!! After that, and Mission space, we went and did turtle talk again, then we had luch at electric umbrella. It was pretty much a hamburger, nothing to write home about!!

* We had
DH - bacon cheeseburger- coke
Me - cheeseburger - diet coke
DS - Nuggets - sprite

Total = $ 23.91

We left epcot and headed back to MGM to do some rides over there, then we headed back to AK to ride Everest and Safari. Yes, it was hopping day!! I had told DH earlier to call and try to get us a resv. at Kona again, which he was able to do, so our resv. was at 7:50, so we headed back to the lodge, cleaned up then headed to the poly. We checked in, they were a lot busier this time, so we waited about 15 min. while we waited in the lobby, we had some frozen smoothies that were so good!!! We watched it rain and waited!! DH took DS to the little gift shop and then they called for us. Again, this was fantastic!!! The food here is amazing and the service is outstanding, our waitress this time was Tammy and she was awesome!!! I cannot give Kona enough praise!! We got a Lapu Lapu to share, WOW, was it potent!!! I had only a sip as it was so strong!! DH enjoyed it though. It was cool, it was a hollowed out pineapple with a "tropical" drink inside, gorgeous presentation, but wow what a drink!!!

* We had
DH - Sticky wings - Filet Mignon - apple brown betty -/ A++/ $48.66
Me - crab cakes - Beef Terriyaki - Kilahuea torte - diet coke/ A++/ $41.66
DS - noodle soup - pasta - kiddie kone - smoothie/ A++/ $19.97

Total = $110.29 excludes tax and tip.

After dinner, we just went back to the lodge, it was late and storming!!

Day 10

This was our last day/night so we headed over to MK for awhile, then DS wanted to ride test track again, so we headed over to epcot, basically we hopped around all day, it was not too crowded today. We just did everything we wanted to do again, we rode buzz at least 15 times......... it was a nice easy relaxing day.

We had a late breakfast so we skipped lunch, DS just got a snack. Then we shopped and took lots of pictures and let DS play, he loved the play area at the end of Mission space!! We met up with some friends that had just checked in at AllStar Movies and had dinner at the Allstar food court, which was totally fine and actually not bad!!! Then we left them and headed back to the lodge to pack. We left the next morning!!! Boo Hoo, we love the lodge, it was terrific as always!!! Our next trip will be to the Poly, but we'll certainly come by our "home away from home" for a visit!!!

We had a great trip overall. It was hot and crowded except for two days. We probably won't go again in Sept. free dining or not, we much prefer Jan. Feb. We ate so much food we are eating grass now.......... LOL Kidding, but it was a lot of food!!! I'd get the dining plan again, we've paid for it once and got it free this time, I feel like it is beyond worth it either way!!! Well, That's it!!! I'm actually glad to be home, of course I'm planning the next trip already!!!!

I'll be adding more pics over the next few days!!! Any questions -- ask away, I'll try to answer!! Enjoy the report!!!
