Off the beaten track suggestions?

Our last day at WDW we have Chef Mickeys for an early breakfast and then that's it until we leave for the airport around 1. No park tickets either, I couldn't see paying that much for 5 hours.
We will have a rental car and 3 children who most likely will be mad at us for so cruelly ripping them away from "mouse house" as they call it.
Any suggestions for off-site off the beaten track fun to kill about 5 hours? Mind you, I have all boys and they do not like shopping. I do! They don't.
I looked into Gatorland but if I'm going to shell out that much then I might as well do another park like AK for the that time.

What to do? Suggestions please!

Maybe visiting a few of the resorts, they are so pretty.

I'd suggest Downtown Disney - admission is free! The boys would probably love the Lego store, too.

Also, there's mini golf - they have a couple of really fun mini golf course close by. But your boys may be too young for that...

Hvae you considered DisneyQuest? Probably a little pricey, but it's still the 'Disney Magic' for them.

As you've got a car, why not try these on International Drive:

Ripley's Believe It Or Not
Fun Spot Action Park - Go-Karting and general amusements

I echo the other suggestions but have you priced the extra day of tickets? I just went from 8 day to 9 day tickets and the total cost for 7 people to get the extra day was $15, a touch over $2 a person--not bad in my opinion. At that cost it would be worth it to me for even a handful of hours (which is why I added the day to our tickets!). Just a thought.

I agree, check on the ticket prices. Also, if your going to be at Chef Mickey's, ride the monorail a few times. If we don't have tickets for our last day and need something free to fill some time we ride it to Epcot, its cool that it enters the park and gives you one more peak before you go!! Be sure to ask to ride in the front with the driver!

I would also think that DtD would be a good place to head. With the Lego store, Once Upon A Toy and World of Disney there would be lots to do and see, toys to play with (lego store) and also a good place to catch a quick bite before heading off to the airport (maybe Earl of Sandwich). If you aren't hungry enough for a meal then maybe an ice cream at Ghiradelli's (sp)?

If you don't mind them getting abit wet, there is the splash fountain (or whatever it is called) at the Marketplace entrance, plus the carousel & maybe the small train (is it still there) to keep them busy.

I also think the monorail idea is a good one! Or you could check out other resorts on the monorail line if that interests you. Since you have a car AKL wouldn't be a bad idea either to check that out.

Definitely check the price of adding a day to your tickets. We are taking our 4 children in Oct (one is 12 so he counts as an adult) and to upgrade from a 5 day to 6 day park hopper for all 6 of us was only $6.39. DTD is also a good suggestion.

After the breakfast, get the boat over to Fort Wilderness and let them run around there. There's a beach and a trading post. From there, you can go to Wilderness Lodge and see the geyser go off (on the hour). Ask at the front desk for a Hidden Mickey sheet and you'll be set.

I would suggest taking the monorail around the resort loop, stopping off at each one to look around. Or go to FW Campground. There's so much to do there...playground, petting zoo, Trading Post to shop, rent the watermice, horseback riding.

These are all great ideas, and I would probably do one of them. But let me put in a good word for Gatorland. It is a true piece of Americana, with earnest, informative and funny local performers, many interesting animals, and a reasonable price. It is a half day experience, but seeing the "trained" gators. especially Ricardo, is unforgettable. My family of adult kids laughed and laughed, and we still talk about our time there!
