hello...Besides being ridiculously excited about our upcoming trip, I was thinking about taking my boyfriend away from the theme parks for abit, just to give him some breathing room since he has never been and i am scared it may be a bit overwhelming for him. I was wondering if anyone could recommend somewhere for us to go and check out? Doesn't have to be a touristy type of place, just something totally different. We have heard about the Wall Street Plaza and will probably go there for a night, but is there anything else that people can suggest? We are pretty outgoing and adventurous, but we are open to suggestions...it doesn't have to be a nightclub.

Thanks - Jo

If you plan on renting a car & don't mind being away from the parks during the daytime, you may be interested in this site: http://www.floridasprings.org/

That would give him a chance to see some of natural Florida. Several of the springs are an easy day trip from Orlando.

i broke away from UO on a couple of trips when i stayed there for a week on site. took the kids to the mercado area and did ripleys.......corny but we liked it.....did a couple of entertainment places on that strip area.

other than that, i hate being away from the parks so i don't venture out anymore away from them.

Last weekend in Tampa we broke away from BG and went to a Rennasaince Fair. It was pretty cool, and I got to wear a Kilt. :thumbsup2

Gatorland was a lot more fun then I expected and an easy day. Cape Canaveral is a short ride also if you are into that type of thing.

So, is it true about what they say is worn under a kilt?

Is the Renaissance Festival open year round? The website doesn't really specify....

An Irishman never tells.....or is it a gentleman.....either way, I'm neither...but I still aint tellin.pirate:
Besides, if you saw........:scared1:

The Ren fair travels from place to place. Its done in Tampa for the year, but it will be traveling somewhere else fairly close I'm sure.

Brevard County Zoo is a great place to visit as well, you get to feed giraffes for like 5 bucks. St. Augustine is also an awesome place to spend a few days, just walking around and taking pictures.

we stopped at the whistle junction on fowler for dinner this year after a day at BG when the ren fair was happening. a few of your lords and ladies were dropping the f-bomb while waiting for their sirloin in costume.

For an evening of cowboys, try the KSO Rodeo! Horses and bullriding. Seems to be a big attraction with "out of USAers". Airboat rides are fun too!

Overall I wasnt impressed...though there was a guy that was dressed as Peter Pan. He had a rather large pixie with him, and I was told that he dresses like that ALL THE TIME. Rather amusing.
And the beer was free for us, so always a good thing.:thumbsup2

yaytezIOA....that was funny!!

ChisJo...we went to Old Town one evening. We were at Disney World with my daughter and her family. They had been living in Florida for a year. So they picked us up and took us there and I loved it. My husband didn't...he said, 'did you see all the police there??' I didn't...I was having too much fun enjoying it. It's sure has character. Trouble is, I have no idea of how to tell you where it is. They lived in St. Cloud and it wasn't all that far away, as far as I remember.

If you want to get to Old Town, head east out of the gates of WDW on 192. About 20 minutes and you'll see a huge tower, with ferris wheels and all that jazz. Its a nice little place....but a tad bit of trouble as everyone in Kissimmee descends on it at night.

Old Town is really crowded on Saturday evenings. I've been there twice.

The first time, we were staying at Tropical Palms which is down the road adjacent to Old Town. People parallel park down this road and so returning back from the parks was a hassle. Fortunately, the traffic jam only occurred on Saturday and the rest of the week was fine.

The second time, a couple years later, we were vacationing with my brother's family. He'd heard about this restaurant down 192 but wasn't sure where it was. Sure enough, it was at Old Town and this was on a Saturday. It took a while to find a parking spot and we had to walk several blocks to reach Old Town. The food and service was good.

It was cool seeing all of the old cars cruising around!:car:
I also didn't notice any police patrolling. However, having been there twice on a Saturday, I don't have a desire to return.
