I am wondering if there are any reasonable off site communities that offer reliable shuttles to the parks - I am looking into renting off site, but we would only have one car and I am worried that we all wouldn't want to stick together EVERY day ... anyone know o anywhere with really reliable shuttles?

No such thing exists. DTD resorts are as close as it gets, and even that's not as good as onsite.

If you need to split up once in a while, take cabs. If you need to split up often, get a second car.

Alas, that is indeed the truth...Onsite also can have it's share of delays at certain times according to many of the folks I have talked to.

Rethink the two cars...we always get two cars (not much more expensive than one van) and you will have the freedom you need.

All the best...Ted

The STR rental communities that I know of that have a shuttle service use the same company - Maingate Transportation. Those communities are Emerald Island, Windsor Palms and I would guess Windsor Hills too. Perhaps other communities in the area use them also.

They are reliable within the service that they offer, but the standard schedule is (dependent on the time of year) two pick ups in the morning and two in the evening.

I think the shuttle service is great for families with older, independent, teenagers who may want to go to universal whilst the rest go to another park

They also offer a private shuttle (or taxi) which can be more flexible for your needs.

If you think you will need to have two cars, then consider getting two smaller vehicles.

You can rent a car for $30 /day unless it is a peak travel season, add in $10 parking fee and you have $40.

You can take a cab r/t from your offsite home to WDW for around $40

Or take a paid shuttle for 4 people for $40.

In my mind it is all about the same money, it just depends on your situation. Do you want to drive or ride? Do you need door to door service? Do you have teens that you can't drive? Do you need flexibility in your schedule?

Taking cabs at the end of a long day feels really nice! Waiting 40 minutes to get on a crowded bus isn't so nice.
