off site hotels?

I'm considering staying off site in August. I know that we would give up FOTL access, but when we went in late August last year we really didn't need it, the place was empty!

Any thoughts on the nearby off-sites? I looked at the Doubletree and can get two nights for $220 or less (as opposed to $183 for one night at RPR) and I think we would be able to walk, or at least use their transportation.

Has anyone stayed anywhere they would recommend?

i stayed in the american suites across from the park some years ago.
thats not the correct name but i just cant think of it at this point.
its right near major blvd. there are maybe three over there. days inn is one on the other side of this hotel.

it wasn't bad. they had a shuttle to the parks for a fee.
maybe the name was amerihost.....something like that.

the end of august does not have much on lines for the parks, you are correct on that

in 2001 me and my family stayed at the Hawthorne Suites about 15 minutes from USO/IOA. it has a nice pool and a great breakfast!!! Since i was last there. or about 2-3 blocks down from the Hawthorne there was the Sheraton Grand Safari hotel. we just went by it but it seemed like a great hotel!!!

We have stayed at both the Holiday Inn and the Comfort Inn and Suites across from Universal. You could walk from there to the parks. The shuttle takes a long time since you stop at several other hotels along the way.

What did you think of the Comfort Suites? We have a reservation, but I've heard some horrible things about it and now I'm concerned.
