Off~Site hotel near universal

Hello Everyone ~ Happy New Year! DH and I just returned a couple of months ago from a trip to WDW and now we're ready to back to the warmth of Orlando for a few days at Universal. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn Express near the main gate (it was a nice stay ~ I just responded to someone's questions about it) but we would like to try another hotel.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a nice hotel that is within about a mile of Universal? Must be clean!!!!! Breakfast and a pool are nice touches but not absolutely necessary.

Would appreciate any input.

We stayed at a Marriott across from Aquatica, but it wasn't that far from Universal down the side road. It was very very clean, breakfast was included and had both a pool and spash area. It was a Springhill Suites, Ithink and we paid around $80

parking is free at the Hyatt Place and you can walk to US or take a shuttle. I was thinking about the Springhill suites also, but you need to drive to US and pay for parking in the lot

Across the street from the main entrance to Universal on Kirkman is a Double Tree and a Holiday in. Both are within walking distance to Universal and for years they have been our go to hotels for Horror Nights and Mardi Gras when we know we all are going to be drinking and not staying on site. There is also Days Inn behind Holiday Inn but isnt as nice as the other 2 hotels.

We stayed at the Sheraton Studio City (about half a mile from US/IOA) and I would stay there again. If you want to be within walking distance (although its a long walk), there's a Double Tree right across the street from US/IOA.
