I'm hoping to book our first trip to WDW next fall. So far I've only considered staying on-site for convenience. We don't want to rent a car. Our two girls will be 6 and 3 at the time of travel. We'd like to stay at a hotel that has a good pool and play area for little tykes. We'd like to be able to head back to the hotel for naps and pool time in the afternoon. My DH & I sleep on a king bed at home and would prefer that in our hotel.

Does anyone have recommendations for good off-site hotels to fit these specs with free/cheap/reliable/flexible transportation to the Disney parks?

With your requirements I think you would be better selecting onsite accomodations or you may be dissapointed.

If you will be without a car, the best option is staying onsite. We have stayed both onsite and off site, and I would never do it (stay off site) without a car. Staying onsite is great with kids that age because not only is it WAY more convienant (without a car), but it's Disney magic 24/7!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

Rent a car!!!! The money that you can save staying offsite in a condo will more than pay for the rental car and parking fees. It is also faster to get to an off site cond driving than getting to an onsite hotel using the WDW busses. Your girls would also have their own room, as would you. Windsor Hills and Emerald Island are both very close and nice. You can rent direct from owners. Cypress Point also is very nice and has great pools.

I also think you should rent a car whether on site or off site. With young children like you have, it is so much easier to maneuver with strollers in a car instead of public transportation.

If you can't/won't get a car, you really should consider an onsite stay. A 1BR DVC points rental is probably the most economical way to meet your requirements. In September, that will cost ~$1,600-$2,000 for a week, depending on which resort you book and the cost of the points you rent.

The only way to get reliable and flexible transportation offsite is to have a car.
