I have a friend looking for pricing for a WDW vacation for his family. He is looking for a condo or house offsite close to Disney. They are a family of 5 wanting to vacation the week of April 21, 2007. Can someone give me a ballpark on pricing for something like that? Just to get idea on budget.

Just as an example, my sister is renting a 2 bedroom condo at Windsor Hills for 8 days at the end of Feb for $600 including all taxes.

Based on rentals we have done in the past, the rates tend to be less than $100 a night including taxes. This should help him get an idea.

Hope this helps you.

I rented a 5 bdrm/3.5 bath house in Davenport for August 2007 for $550/wk including the taxes. I found it at vacationrentals. I also looked at quite a few that seemed reasonable at vacationhomes.

We just checked into our rental villa (4 BR pool home) last night. It is great, so far. Pool heat is on, and the management company said it takes about 24 hours for the pool to heat up, so we should get to swim by tomorrow. Only two problems so far, 1) can't figure out how to get the DVD player in the living room to work (can't seem to find how to change the input) and 2) you must remember that there are no things like dish soap, paper towels, etc like you would get in a timeshare resort. Unfortunately we got a late start yesterday so I didn't get to make a grocery run last night. DH arrived around midnight and stopped at Walgreens for milk, coffee, pop tarts and cereal, so we could have breakfast. The price was great (around $850 for 8 nights---was only $650, but pool heat and tax brought it up to $850) and we were able to bring our dogs with us so we didn't have the cost of kenneling. Not too bad for Thanksgiving week. Dogs were a little barky last night being in a strange place, but they seem to be calming down this AM. They will probably be acting like they own the place by this afternoon. The house is off of Formosa Gardens Blvd in Rolling Hills---very nice neighborhood. Rented through vrbo.com. Will write a full report when we get back.

I really think it depends on where they rent and if they go direct or through a management company. It would be really easy to get a few quotes using some of the above mentioned websites.

Not to steal this thread, but thanks for the links.

Using the above I was able to find a 3br townhouse in Emerald Isle for $795 inclusive of taxes for nine nights over spring break.

Again, thanks all for the guidance you provide...I love this web community!

I am new to this board but wanted to share my experiences and provide a recommendation.

We (me, DH, DS7, DD4) rented a 4 bed/3 bath villa for a week in early April 2006 in Davenport for $700 plus tax and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. We loved having the space to do our own things and have some time apart, and DH and I could put the kids to bed and relax. We often would go to the parks for opening, do several rides while it wasn't too busy, and then go home in the afternoon for a swim/nap and dinner (we get tired of restaurants quickly). We would then go back, do some more rides and see the fireworks.

We are renting from the same owners (a different house) for a 2 week vacation at the end of April/beginning of May 2007. This time we wanted a real hot tub, not an inground spa. I looked through many, many listings (those of you who have done this know they are endless) and found that not only did these homeowners have very competitive rates, but I felt comfortable with the whole thing because everything had worked out very well last time. I also was able to negotiate a better rate than last year.

If anyone is interested in checking out the rentals owned by these homeowners, search for "Florida rentals by Helen & James". They are mostly on VRBO.

There's a website for renting in Windsor Hills Resort directly from the owners as well...you can go a general inquiry or an inquiry by size of home (2 bedrooms - 6 bedrooms). The resort is brand new and 2 miles from WDW..and has 2/3BR condos, 3 bedroom townhomes with pools, and 4-5-6 bedroom homes with pools, as well as an incredible resort pool/clubhouse. Yes, most vacation rentals are defined as "self catering" meaning you need to provide some of the basic supplies.

We just found out of a grocery delivery service...garden grocer...who will allow you to pre-order and have everything delivered to you there for a $10 service charge! (We don't like going out late at night grocery shopping when we arrive on a vacation either!)

First of all welcome to the Dis. Warning, it is addicting. Secondly, sorry to change the subject, but I was curious how the commute from Davenport was to Disney? The reason why I am asking is we will be staying at a relatives place in April and they live in Davenport (they will not be there when we are there). I hear the commute is like 20 minutes, but I am concerned about traffic, plus they don't go to Disney, they prefer golfing.

Thanks!

Davenport is further away but it's slightly less expensive rents as a result, generally speaking.

20-25 mins at the time you're referring to should do it.

Formosa Gardens West Resorts are the closest... you can see Davenport on the bottom of the map down I-4 a ways. Windsor Hills, Windsor Palms, Emerald Island, Indian Creek are all very nice and some are brand new, and very close, you should be able to get a good deal in one of those resorts in Feb (low season) and be a lot closer than Davenport.

Hi Our2Girls&Disney. Thanks for the welcome. The DIS is addictive. I love the internet because I love to find out about things and I love planning Disney vacations, and the internet is a great tool for both.

The drive from Davenport wasn't bad at all as far as we were concerned. If you take I4, we were the next exit after Epcot. I would say it was about 20 minutes from door to park. Davenport was nice because it wasn't very "touristy" and it was very quiet in the gated community we stayed in.

For us, 5 or 10 minutes more isn't bad at all. We have a fairly tight budget, so saving a little in exchange for spending little more time is a good trade off for us. Especially in the mornings, we enjoy our coffee on the way to the parks in our air-conditioned vehicle, so it is very comfortable. We also drive to Orlando from Ontario, Canada, because my husband doesn't like to fly, and it saves us some money as well.

The only thing about Davenport that I didn't like as much was the lack of restaurants. We didn't get a chance to explore much of the area because we were only there for a week and busy every day, but on our route from I4 to the house, there was only a gas station, Publix, Walgreens, and a couple take out places. Next vacation we have a house in Cumbrian Lakes, off Poiciana, in Kissimmee, so we are looking forward to seeing the differences between the two areas.
