What is the purpose of the hand stamp no one ever looks at it.

And you have to show your ticket every time you enter the park.

So would the all knowing people on here put me in the knowing ? :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3

Its so tickets aren't shared. For example, I go in with my family of 5. Then only I go out, but have all the tickets. If the hand stamp isn't required, then whats to stop me from giving those tickets to 4 other people?

And I want that sound the tickets make when they are scanned for the first time. Make a great text message sound

So they know you didn't pass/share your ticket to someone else. The machine knows if this is your 1st entry of the day. If you swipe it at DCA after entering DL, the cm at the turnstiles needs to see your handstamp to know it was you. If you didn't have a handstamp, and the parkhopper shows that it's a reentry, then the parkhoppers could have been used by another person. I'm hoping that makes sense. It's to keep us honest.

Didn't answer fast enough.

So really it is for the dishonest people that is why the tickets make the magical sound the first time and the bird chirping the other times.

Speaking of dishonest people we went on pirates the last ride of the night mon night and we come out and have no stroller and are stuff with it were gone.

The stuff on the stroller was a tote bag with wipes pull ups eaten cotton candy and a sweater. Why in the world would they take it is beyond me hopefully they needed it worse then us. We check lost and found the next few days and still nothing. Some people need to get a life what a sad sad world we live in.

I don't get why people take stuff, especially a tote with wipies, pullups, eaten cotton candy and a sweater. I'm guessing they took it hoping there was something of value in it. Karma will get them eventually. We've never lost anything at disney (crossing my fingers) and my kids are finally past the age of strollers.

I like to look at the screen when I enter as it shows the picture of yourself and your name as it appears on your AP.

Do you ever stand in line at the entrance and then you look over and there is a line with nobody or maybe two people and you wonder why you are standing behind 17 people?

They probably did not bring one....and the kid got tired....so they took yours. Stupid un prepared people!

That totally sucks--I really want to catch someone doing that sometime--hopefully they would get banned from Disneyland for life or something (not to mention arrested and prosecuted). It's bad enough to steal--but to interfere with someone else's vacation is just evil.

seen it before. The guest started yelling and accusing a family of stealing. Turns out they did, and the took the bags back. they got OOOOOWNED.

heh, you think thats bad? There are a lot of counterfieters out there dropping fake bills everywhere. We just had one last week, ended up catching the guy with quite a bit of money...

Albort: what does 'OOOOOOWNED' mean? If someone is caught stealing do they get kicked out? Do the police get called? Is there a list of "banned" people (and if so how would you keep track of them?) I would think it would be easier to do this in WDW since they use the thumbprints . . .

Cheryl (p.s.--I'm still going to look for you!)

p.s.--sorry to original poster than I have hijacked the thread into a discussion of what happens when someone steals . . . .

With our AP's, we never bothered getting our hands stamped when we were there, it really was pointless since our faces are on our passes. Now, MIL had a parkhopper and each time she would exit we made sure her hand was stamped so that they wouldn't give her problems coming back in later.

If you have an AP you don't need to get a hand stamp, we didn't realize that so for our first few days we had AP's and hand stamps. LOL They do check your hand when you re-enter, they use a blue light to see what the stamp says, if it doesn't match you don't get in. :)

On my first trip back after a hiatus of about 6 years the person on the way out failed to stamp my hand and I didn't realize it was an issue. I then had to fight with the gate person later and require her to get her supervisor to get back in.

I always want them to stamp more then once. haha I am so nervous that its going to wash off. I am a huge fan of handwashing, specially in a place with tons of germy people.

I think they also use a different stamp everyday so that they make sure that someone is not getting in for free the next morning after getting their hand stamped the prior night. If you do NOT wash your hands (eewww...! ) then theoretically the stamp could still be visible the next morning.

I have heard, but can't confirm, that people used to share the hand stamp too. Once one would get their hand stamped, then they could walk a few yards to meet up with someone standing outside. They would then press the back of their hand to the back of their friends and magically the friend would then have a hand stamp as well (because of the wet ink). The stamps used to be words, so when they check your hand it would say something like "mickey." If the stamp was backwards they knew it was faked because a stamper could not stamp backwards.

I think it sucks that people will cheat the system to get something they didn't pay for, or that people steal. Unfortunately, lowlifes like that are always around. :scared:

Even if you do wash your hands, shower at night and in the morning, and continue to wash hands, those stamps are still visible.

DS loves having his hand stamped, and requests that we get them stamped too, even though none of us need them b/c we have APs. Trust me, those stamps are powerful ink!

toocherie, WDW doesn't fingerprint people. They take some sort of measurement scan of the finger bones and the relative something or other of the measurements. No prints! Or so sayeth those in the know, like cheshirefigment, robo, and so on and so forth...
