Odds of getting Oogie Bash tickets if not a Passholder?

We have discussed the possibility of taking a cross country trip next year to go to Disneyland. We live near Atlanta and have been to WDW more than 30 times including short annual trips for MNSSHP. My wife and daughter are Disney Halloween addicts and would love to go to Disneyland/California Adventure for a bucket list trip.

We have read the horror stories about trying to get Oogie Boogie Bash tickets and are now kind of reluctant to even try since we are not (and will not be) Disneyland Annual Pass Holders. My wife has indicted to me that unless she could gwt OBB tickets, she didn't want to go. I think that this is a little extreme, but that is her position.

My main question is: If we had flexible dates, how hard would it be to get three OBB tickets if not a pass holder? Is it impossible?

I grew up in California and have been to Disnyland when younger, but I would love for my wife and daughter to have the experience. I have also not been back there since DCA opened and would love to have that experience for myself. We both just retired and would like to do something different. Any help would be appreciated.

This year tickets were easier to get than they have been. They did not all sell out in the first day. If you are online the day they go on sale, you will have a good chance of getting tix, especially if you have flexible dates.

The last couple years tickets sold out super fast, but for this current OBB tickets were on sale to the general public for about a week before all dates fully sold out. So if that trend follows again next year and you are flexible with dates, it should be pretty easy to get the tickets without a hassle.

The 2023 ticket sales were an absolute nightmare. The 2024 ticket sales were mostly pretty smooth and did not sell out immediately. If it goes like this year, then you'll have a very good chance of getting tickets.

(Also, the parks are still worth visiting during Halloween even if you don't get OBB tickets! The decorations, the fireworks show, the food, the merch, the HMH overlay, Guardians of the Galaxy overlay, and Radiator Springs all decked out for Halloween are not OBB-exclusive, and well worth a visit.)

I believe the OBB tickets lasted something like 8 or 9 days after they went on sale for 2024. So if this is the case next year you won't have any problem at all. You would know if you have tickets next year in plenty of time to get multi-day passes for your other trip dates to Disneyland and DCA and get hotel nights lined up. Probably want to avoid Columbus Day weekend, but October is pretty busy regardless. As huge WDW/Disney fans your wife and daughter will enjoy seeing the CA parks.

I fully agree

I know event is popular but massive character Meet & Greet lines are not my favorite, so the general overall Halloween time at Disneyland and California Adventure were so much better to me. If you're unable to get event tickets in 2025 you'll still enjoy parks.

It's hit or miss... I guess your best bet will be to hope the economy is the same or worse next year and that prices for everything else are still really high.

In 2019 tickets weren't hard to get, went on sale for a few days before selling out and then after they sold out they would have random dates that would open up again with tickets for awhile. Then post pandemic tickets were damn near impossible to get, you had to have multiple people and phones and computers and everything and still needed luck. They sold out within the first day and never came back for sale. This year it was wildly different and tickets were on sale for most dates for a few days, it was shockingly easy to get them...

Thanks for all of the great information. If we do decide to go cross country I'll be like Arnold in The Terminator......"I'll be BACK"
