I'm thinking it's worth a try. I've gotten BWV at the 7 month window. I think that many BW owners may reserve standard view to save points. Any owner thoughts on that?
I didn't have enough VWL points to book a studio there for our October trip for my DMom/Sis, so at 11 months out, I booked a BWV Boardwalk view for them. I intend to switch to VWL at 7 months if I can. Since they are the same amount of points BW view and VWL, I figured I'd do it that way. So, I COULD be freeing up 1 BWV studio for the week of Halloween.
It is difficult (although not necessarily impossible) to get a boardwalk view at 7 months out any time of year because they tend to be taken by BW members before then. Likewise for standard view. Other preferred views are usually available.

20% of the rooms are standard view and 20% are Boardwalk View. F&W is a popular time for BW owners, many who purchased BW particularly in order to stay at the BW during Food and Wine (this seems to be a bigger deal to BWV owners than BCV owners). If the resort is 40% full by 7 months, both views are likely to be pretty booked - except for cancellations that weren't filled by the waitlist. Last year, both Epcot resorts were pretty darn full at seven months - with some (but not all) people having no luck at all for either resort without calling day by day and/or using the waitlist.
But it happens. However, your competition will be stiff.
we were able to get BW view studio when we called a few weeks ago (for the 1st week of oct) ~ but we had to waitlist for our last night.
MS said there were very few BW view studios left for our dates.
