Odds of DA opening by June 21 or so?

We went to Universal in early June two years ago and missed the opening of Despicable Me by a few days. So this year we are booked for June 21-ish and I am beginning to worry about DA being open by then. I mean FULLY open, not a soft opening.

We might be able to reschedule for July. It would be hotter, but I don't even want to go if DA is not open. Does anyone have any info?

Im definitely not making any promises or anything, this is just pure speculation. Currently they have a contest going where you have to "locate" a different item each day on a website they provide. Looking at mine, the contest only goes until June 18th, so my mind *thinks* that might be close to the opening date.

The press preview is June 17- 20. Many suspect the 20th is the grand opening date. Then I've seen people who say they have insider info it's the following week.

Right now we just don't know. You could be there for THE opening.

We are going June 14 and 15. Maybe a soft at that time. If not we return 2 weeks after that.

The last post was deleted because a restricted site was mentioned.

Please remember some websites are not allowed on the DIS and posts will be deleted or edited whenever one of the sites is mentioned.

Is there a stickied thread anywhere which mentions which of those sites can't be named? I saw a post a day or two ago that was edited, but I'm honestly not sure which site was referenced.

There is no sticky thread but any banned site will automatically put asterisks in the url when you post it. If it isn't asetrisked out, then you are good to post it. The problem with the last post is that the poster put an asterisk for one letter which circumvented the automatic filter system. Just post what you want. The system will automatically filter out websites that aren't approved and also will filter any profanity.

Example: If darn were a cuss word, then when I typed it, the system would change it to ****. If I tried to circumvent the system and typed d@rn, the system wouldn't catch it. So just type what you want and if it is a banned site or word, it will be filtered automatically.

I just booked a reservation for July, to be safe. Thanks!

I'll be there June 30th....and ironically not having kept up with US/IOA stuff (I'm more of a Disney person)....I had NO idea they were even going to open this then. But I'm excited to see it!

Just come on already and tell us the date it will open! I really don't understand their strategy for not revealing it now if it is the end of June...because we're already so close to the date. You'd think they'd want to fill up the hotels and such.

In any case...anything I can find on it says end of June....the exact date just seems to be anyone's guess....

We are booked for 17th of June till 24th since last yr although we will have a 14 day ticket if we miss the opening!
I am really hoping though that we get the for soft opening and can experience that without the huge crowds then have the real opening!

I would just book for July to be safe.

We moved our vacation once the packages were announced (we bought a package to promise our entrance via breakfast) from the last week in June to July 6th for 4 nights. Just FYI the first package date is June 29th and last time the packages were park of soft opening for the first two weeks.

The reason they won't give an exact date is because the honestly don't know the date. I have a family memebr who works in corporate. They were able to walk through the new area yesterday but they were not able to ride the ride because it is not ready yet. They were still putting the finishing touches on some of the paint, etc in the areas that they were able to go through.

We are heading down this weekend and were hoping for a soft opening but it looks like that is definitely not going to happen.

BTW- he said it looks AMAZING! :yay:

Might not be a strategy as much as making sure everything is finished and working as they need. Last time, they underestimated how long it would take to get Forbidden Journey working as they wanted and it caused all sorts of problems with package reservations.

I also heard from someone that works there that the new ride needs to have a certain amount of hours of run time without incident and I think they are still working on those hours.

We will be down there for the last weekend of June so I'm hoping for a soft opening by then.

Yeah I was booked in two weeks before official opening. They allowed us access for three hours in the mornings.

In three hours I was evacuated from Forbidden Journey four times.

Those of you hoping for soft opens just so you know you will want to be staying at a universal hotel. Last soft opening was just hotel guests for the three hour window in the morning.

I will be in WDW the last week and have slated the 30th to visit Diagon Alley provided it is open.
