Odds of being chosen to play Beast at ETWB?

My DS5 wants to play the Beast when we do ETWB. Discussing expectations beforehand is very important for him, so I have been telling him that he might not get to be the Beast, but he will get to do something if he raises his hand. He understands this and seems to be okay with it, but that hasn't stopped him from practicing his roar!

With that being said, does anyone have any tips for being chosen to play the Beast? I know my son would love it if he actually got picked!

If he's outgoing and does a good Beast growl he has a good chance.

My DD got picked 3 times. She really got into the growl -- used her hands as claws and all!

My DS5 got picked 2 out of 3 times to be the Beast on our last trip. Candidly, he was dressed as Prince Charming one of the 2 times, so he stuck out. The third time, one of 6 girls in convincing princess costumes got picked, so they stood out. So, costumes might have a role in getting picked.

I agree with PP about being outgoing. DS5 was ready for it, so he was the first to growl, which caught the CM's attention.

By the way, DS5 was a (break) dancing plate the third time. He still had a blast.

Agree with previous posters. He needs to be animated. Don't just growl. Have beastly actions in the growl and in the eyes. My nephew was picked and he sort bent down and brought the growl from the gut >:(. But I understand your concern because my daughter wanted the part and she almost cried. Now that I know what its about I remind her that every part is special and to just do her best.

Maybe bringing a small sign (half a sheet of paper) and writing "Playing Beast would make his day" on it, would work. You could hide if from DS and at the right time just hold above his head out of his sight.

I'm sure the CM picking parts would want to make his day!

My dd was picked to play the Beast, but we were in a group with mostly older boys and none of them wanted the role. When dd realized it was the Beast or nothing (I'm pretty sure she was holding out for Belle) she let loose with a HUGE growl, hands as claws included. There was no competition, though, so dd was picked.

Start by being a cute enthusiastic 5 year old.

I like his odds. :)

Thanks for the advice! We have been practicing an animated growl. I'll have to see if he'd be willing to switch from his Buzz Lightyear shirt into a Beast shirt before we do ETWB. That would be cute for the pictures too!

My daughter was picked twice, and she sort of jumped forward with her hands like claws and yelled RAWR! He needs to be loud and in the front.

I agree that it seems being loud and animated when the CMs are having them "audition" seems to be key. My son isn't normally particularly theatrical, but in our group the day he was chosen he was loud (but not the loudest) and also took a beastly posture and used his hands as claws. No one that day was wearing costumes, that I recall. The rest of the kids were participating, but kind of timid. It does seem that the age 5-7 range is pretty common. Although all age kids can participate, they seem to look for one who can follow directions well. Definitely talk about the importance of all parts in case the pixie dust goes someone else's way that day.

I would also recommend standing near the center of the room, so the CM can see your child as they growl.

We went at an off time when there werent hat many children. The CM asked a few older kids first and they all said no so I volunteered my daughter. She was only three and a little shy, but it was still a fun experience for her

My son was picked (age 5) and they noticed him because he was wearing a pirate "do-rag" and he looked a wee bit tough. lol! They mentioned that. He also has a sweet face, but I agree that a "beastly" demeanor works well. Good luck! Maybe you can go multiple times to increase your chances! Let us know!

My DD was chosen last year at age 6 being dressed up as Belle after getting all dolled up at BBB.

Start with a kid between 5-8. Position them in the middle of the room, front row. Have them make eye contact with the CM who is choosing. And ROAR with absolutely everything they have. And then smile. I have a nephew who gets picked literally every single time. And we've done it a lot. He's cute, charming, and roars with all he has.

If you can go later at night before closing, there are typically less people there and a better chance of getting the role you want. DD was picked as Beast one night as there were not even any boys in our group. She did a huge, loud animated growl with beast arms up. I didn't see her, but I can probably bet she gave the CM a big smile after too. You pretty much couldn't miss her in the room. He needs to make it big enough to get the CMs attention.
