Oddball things that are strangely expensive now

Paper products are off the charts which makes no sense judging by the amount of garbage mail I get. Like, if the price of materials went up and the cost of mailing a parcel is close to 50 cents wouldn't unnecessary and unwanted advertisements be one of the first things to go? annnnd yet.......

I have noticed that it seems that any "store brand" version of salad dressing costs at least $2. In like 2020, it could be found easily under $1, often like $.79. Also, bagged salad as more than doubled in price at many stores.

I have noticed that salad dressing has shot way up - not just the high-end glass bottle brands.

Name-brand cereal! OMG.

Cereal has been high for a long time, but recently I have noticed huge sales on it with the digital coupons. It's was like $1.50 a box a couple weeks ago, with a maximum of five. I stocked up a bit, but have had some other good digital coupons hitting for other brands. Seems like they may have hit a sales slump and are trying to move the product. I'm not complaining - I love cereal!

Salad is true but I figure somebody has to pay the lawsuits and fines for the killer romaine, so it's us :/ I did see a food safety show that said buying my own whole lettuce is safer as it is super easy for cut lettuce to pick up contagions, but like I'm still buying it cut in a bag. So like I think about there being a safer cheaper way but I still do it ... so theres that.

Canned Soup! So it is cheaper at Walmart so I go there BUT where do stores get off charging nearly $5 for a can of soup, I feel genuinely bad for people down on their luck who can't get to a Walmart - it seems like some basic necessities should be sheltered.
Aldis’s is a good place to shop, even better than WM, imo. They actually deliberately lowered some of their prices this year.

I’m going to say mayonnaise! A regular size jar can be over $8 in some places now!

I don't have an Aldi near me anymore, there was one down the street in my old town. Now the closest Aldi is over 20 min away so Trader Joes has pretty much taken over for lots of things these days.

I guess it is not oddball but just crazy pricing to me because we are looking for one for dd. And yes, it's been this way for a while but I thought it came down but apparently it hasn't. Used cars, especially Sub-Compact SUV's.

A used 2022 Honda HRV with 40,000 miles is going for $22K and a brand new 2025 is listed at $25K.

They’re sister companies, so some of the same items and pricing structures.
It’s that way for me, too, but I go maybe once a month and stock up. Worth the drive, or if you’re in the neighborhood.

everything honestly. I remember getting a 24 pack of soda for like 6.98. Now it's that much for a 12 pack if you can't find it on sale.

Oh, man, yeah - soda is out of control! Base prices for a 12-pack here is $9.99 but you can always get deals like buy 2, get 2 free or evne 3 free, which is so silly, but really reduces the per-unit price.

I'm mad that Campbells Chunky is $2.37 and Progresso is up to $2.50 at Walmart. I know Walmart buys in obscene volume but I have a hard time understanding how a store can justify $5.

My 2016 car has only depreciated 4-5k.
