Odd WDW refund question

At least, I couldn't find it asked before (I asked on the resort board and got no replies)...

I have a split stay in January (room only for two nights and then a package for six nights). I'm also wait listed for a DVC studio for the first two nights (actually, one night is booked and one is wait listed).

I know that I have until 5 days before my room only stay to cancel without penalty. However, ideally if I cancel my room only booking I'd like the deposit to be transferred to the package booking. I'm not in the US, so I lose money if it is refunded back to my credit card (the whole currency exchange thing). I know that I can do this IF I cancel before I have to pay-off my package (45 days before the package starts which is 43 days before the room only booking starts).

However, I know that the wait list is most likely to come through (if at all) later than that (either 30 days before or 7 days before). If I cancel my room only booking after I've paid off my package, is there anything I can do other than put the refund on my credit card? Would they put it on a WDW gift card (which I would spend on my trip)? Something else?

Basically, I want WDW to keep the money (weird, I know). Anyway to do it?
 
If I were you I would call and ask this question to a Disney Reservation Agent.

I would almost make a bet that they would be willing to give you a refund to a Disney Gift Card - simply because they keep the money in their pocket that way.

If I were you I would avoid the return to your credit card if at all possible. Credit Card companies can be very unforgiving of charges like that - that then involve a refund.

Another option would be to just ask them to apply the cost to dining - or as a deposit on your room charge (which you could then buy a gift card with) - that's sort of a round about way if they won't directly apply the refund to your card. PLUS it's in no way shape or form 'against the rules'.

OR another option is to take whatever is available ANYWHERE on property at a DVC resort. I don't know if you waitlisted a specific resort - but either way - it's only two night - Saratoga almost always has studios open.

Actually, if they'd let me put a deposit on my room charge that would be great. I have the dining plan but I could use it for tips and other things I'm sure I'd purchase. I just assumed that I couldn't put a deposit on a room charge until I get there.

I'm wait listed for BLT - which is the only place I'd want to stay. If it doesn't come through, I'll stay with my room only booking (at CR).

Thanks - I will check with WDW, but we all know that two different people who pick up the phone will give you 3 different answers! I asked here first to see if anyone had done such a thing and to get ideas of what I could ask for (e.g. I wouldn't have thought to ask for a deposit to my room charge).
