My husband and I plan on going during free dining - also planning on paying to upgrade to the Deluxe dining. Now my question - at non-buffet resturaunts can we use only 1 dining credit even if there are 2 adults(who both techincally have the dining plan)? I don't eat a lot of stuff - so will likely be ordering off the kids menu or just an appetizer - so using a credit for me wouldn't make sense. We would then pay out of pocket for the kids meal or appetizer. Sound like something we can do?

We have been to restaurant and dh wanted full meal and I only wanted appetizer. We used one TS credit for him and paid out of pocket for my appetizer.

Yes you can do it. I would strongly suggest though that you really sit down and figure out if this is worthwhile. DxDDP is a LOT of food. You might be better off sticking with the basic DDP and just paying for the appetizers and/or kids meals rather than paying to upgrade to DxDDP and still having to pay for more.

I wondered the same thing. Unless you have a lot of buffets and signature restuarants planned to use up your credits. But if you are the type of person who would order off the kids menu for portion size, you may want to seriously consider if Deluxe is the way to go. Unless your DH has a really big appetite.

Thanks for the suggestion- but we do have a lot of buffets and signatures planned :) My husband does have a big appetite too - and this is the way he gets me to go to places I normally wouldn't - haha. Before we book I am *definitely* going to go through all the numbers though and make absolutely sure that it is worth the $$$!

Thanks for the advice everyone - glad to hear my plan will work! Now off to check out the kids menus :rotfl:

With a small appetite, I don't think you'll want to pay for ANYTHING. Better to burn through some credits for less than their worth than not to use them at all. ????

That's a good point. You still have 2 snack credits per day .... each! Even if your DH has a good appetite he is not going to get through ALL the extra food. Snack credits are easy to use up at the end if need be though as you can burn them up on extra treats to take home with you.

You made a point worth mentioning: Your DH would really like the freedom to try some places and really order whatever and as much as his heart desires, that is also a reason to go for the plan. Some people DON'T do it purely from a cost effective point of view (obviously within reason though - you want to at least come fairly close to breaking even). I know I do it that way and didn't quite break even last time due to too many unused credits, but as a do-over, I would still do it again because a great part of the vacation for me is not only not having to cook but not having to think about a food budget. It is a very personal decision because you have to discuss with your DH where the "value" lies for you. It may be the best deal in terms of cost, it may be convenience or a happy combination of both.

Whatever you decide, have a wonderful trip. :goodvibes
