Does it not strike anyone as odd that the most well known nationals tend to be fictional?

United States of America - Homer Simpson
United Kingdom - James Bond
France - Asterix or Tintin
Belgium - Hercule Poirot
Ireland - Leprechaun

WHO are these?
I would have guess Jerry Lewis as he is revered in France

I think it's sad the Homer Simpson is the most well known national of the USA.

Time to come out from under your monkey rock again.

Jerry Lewis made it all up, Stallone is revered in France and it's scary! DH had his parents bring a book over with them and it's some book how Stallone changed this chicks life or something like that.

Asterix
Tintin

My kids LOVE Asterix and Tintin.

Thanks for the link! :teeth: I haven't seen Tintin since DS (now 24) was little. He used to watch it on Nickelodeon - back before they had their own programming they played a lot of Canadian & European stuff.

Doh!!!!
Woo Hoo!!!

Sorry, I couldn't pass that up. It's more celebrity/athletes than fictional.
Bono, Beckhem, Ronaldo, Ming ... Hasselhoff etc...

Homer Simpson for the U.S.? Really? The U.K. gets James Bond and we get Homer Simpson? How insulting is that! At least give us Indiana Jones.

He is, but so are fries and they're still called French. :rotfl2:

My DH is French but Flemish and grew up on the Belgian border. :earboy2:
