See, I'm trying to sell my ds's old Jeep Powerwheel that he has outgrown on craigslist since our yard sale this weekend didn't yeild ANY buyers even though we advertised in the newspaper. I have gotten a few normal responses, but this response a person wrote just didn't seem right.

"Thank you for getting back with me

I just want to make sure i am going to buy the same which i am looking for.
I can't afford another mistake as i did in the past.
Please check the video and confirm that it's the same u have.

(weblink to an obscure website was here)

If its the same one I will be there today to buy it

Thanks "

My bullcrud radar went on alert , and I responded back with the fact that I do not check websites I dont feel comfortable opening, and that the item if sold will be available for pickup in the parking lot across from the local police station if buyer is still interested. I think that will sufficiently scare off scammers. ;)

Is this a common scam I wonder? Or is it even one? Still... If I don't trust the link webwise , even if my mom sends me it, Im not clicking on it. :rolleyes1

I assume that anyone who sends me a link and I don't know them is likely a scammer. Good for you for not clicking on the link! :thumbsup2

I always say "go with your gut"! If this guy is on the up and up, he'll get back to you regarding your response. :) Hope it sells quickly for you.

if people want to be strange with their response, i don't even bother. I also don't bother with people who can't write. Is it that hard to make a coherrant sentance?

I got that exact same email from a "buyer" when I posted a large oriental rug on craigslist last week. I too was afraid it was a scam and made almost the same reply you did, although I wish I would have thought to add the piece about the police station!!
Glad to know that I was right in thinking that it sounded funny.

I wonder what the purpose of the link is though, is it like a key logging scam or something ?

In all serious though, this HAS to be a scam, as I know if I was a buyer I would ask to meet in a public place and provide some way to get in contact with me. After all, how in the heck does clicking on a website link 'prove' you do have the correct item for sale? :confused3

Well, at least this will serve as an FYI for potential Craislist sellers to look out for 'buyers' like this. lol

Hah! Good for you! :thumbsup2 I work across the street from the courthouse/jail here, so I usually ask people to pick up here and stress that it's across from the courthouse. Not saying these people aren't honest, you just never know... ;)
