October Use Year Question

My Use Year is October at BWV and we just have a small 50 point contract because we only go every 18 months. We plan to go back to Disney in December 2019 so we will be able to book in January of 2019.

We borrowed all 2018 points for the trip we just got back from. I know we will be able to use all 50 points from 2019 but will we also be able to borrow a few points from 2020 as well by January 2019?

Borrowing is based on when the booking is to take place. For a trip in January 2019, you can borrow your 2019 points (Awarded October 2019) but not your 2020 points. The points that would be eligible for a January 2019, based on an October UY:

• Banked 2017 (October 2017 points, to be used by 9/30/18)
• Current 2018 points (October 2018 points, to be used by 9/30/19)
• Borrowed 2019 points (October 2019 points, to be used by 9/30/2020)

Your 2020 points could be used for trips after 10/1/19, borrowed.

Sorry, I may not have worded that too great. Our trip would be December 2019 so we would be booking in January 2019. But I could borrow those 2020 points then since the trip takes place after 10/1/19?

Jan 2019 is irrelevant.

The December 2019 trip falls into your Oct 2019 UY, so you can use current 2019 pts and borrowed 2020 pts to book it.

Yeah, that's correct. I read wrong the date of travel.

Because the date of your trip will be in your 2019 UY (starts 10/1/19) you can borrow from 2020.

Points can only be banked during the first 8 months of your UY. Your UY is not a calendar year. Points need to be available during the dates of your stay, not when you make the reservation. Banking moves points one UY forward, borrowing moves points one UY back. Banking and borrowing are final transactions and can not be reversed.

The biggest thing to remember about UY is that calendar year is irrelevant. Forget all about calendar year. Make yourself a calendar that starts on Day 1 of your UY if that would help. (kind of like fiscal year)
