Hello. Today is my first visit to this site and the information it contains is fantastic!! A few questions....

We're going out on 3 October - what will the crowds be like then?

Does anyone have any reviews on the Sheraton World Resort?

Our 2 week trip includes one week at St Pete's Beach (our 5 and 4 year old kids wouldn't be able to handle a fortnight of theme parks). Travel City Direct (who we booked with) recommended the Tradewinds Sirata Hotel. Does anyone have any reports on this hotel, especially its suitability for kids.

Hello

Welcome to the UK Dis!!:D Another October traveller - we go out on the 5th October.

October is a great time to visit - with lot's going on. I have been twice in October - the weather has been great on both occasions:D It might be worth looking to see if Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party is on while you are there your kids will love that.

Can't help with the accomodation - but someone will be able to.

Kaylee :D

Sorry I can' t help with your questions except for the fact we have friends who have been to WDW 3 times in October, & swear by that time of year.

Would just like to say welcome to the site.

Crowds are very light in early October and temperatures usually fluctuate between 80-85 degrees farenheit(sometimes pushing close to 90). You will have the run of the parks during this time with virtually no wait times on all of the major attractions. We usually travel the third week of October so as to take in the month-long Food & Wine Festival at Epcot and Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. Temps during this time tend to stay in the low 80s and crowds do pick up somewhat, expecially on the weekends, but we love it just the same. There's lots to do during the later part of the month. I don't know how long you plan on staying, but I would definitely lecho Kaylee's sentiments about look into MNSSHP. It's a great event.

We went Oct 16th last year - had a fantatic time weather and crowd wise. Can't recommend MNSSHP enough - best trip to MK in all our visits:D :D The rides were all walk-on - even Peter Pan;)

We stayed at the Sheraton World three years ago while they were building the new tower. I would imagine the views from up the top end of the tower rooms would be fantastic.

The hotel is situated at the far end of IDrive (quiet), but right next door to Sea World. There is a walk through towards the rear of the hotel grounds which literally takes no more than 5 mins to walk to the entrance to Sea World.

Our room (sorry, can't remember number) was at the rear of the grounds - it's vast - and so we walked to the walkway, and if we were back in our room at 10pm each night we would check out the fireworks from Sea World:)

There are at least three pools - but the one with the lovely waterfall was always cool when we were there;) Food was ok - we ate a buffet breakfast in the Blue Marlin one morning. Not as much choice as Ponderosa/Sizzler/Shoney's etc, but ok for us.

The IDrive trolley bus stops right outside the hotel if you don't want to drive up IDrive where loads of restaurants and entertainment are. Opposite the hotel are another couple of restaurants, including one of our faves - Bennigans. Disney and Universal parks were about 15 mins drive away and the main route down to the Gulf coast is just over the road. It's a great placed hotel. Rooms are fine - nothing too fancy. The grounds were stunning - lovely water gardens all lit at night:D We wouldn't have a problem going back there.

As for St Pete's Beach - one of our faves:D We've stayed next door to the Sirata a couple of times at the "round" Holiday Inn, but met a couple who were staying at the Sirata in a standard room and they were very pleased with the hotel. Durango's steak restaurant in the Sirata is not to be missed - happy hours are great. There is so much around that area - restaurants within 10 mins walking distance, a Publix supermarket where we picked up all our supplies, including all the inflatables for the beach (and they inflate them for you there too - very handy;) ).

Sorry - going on and on ;). There is so much to do in and around St Pete's - dolphin cruises; Busch Gardens and it's sister water park (really great) 45 mins away; Sunshine Skyway bridge over to Sarasota . . . so much and so little time;).

Let me know if you need any further info on St Pete's area - we've been a few times now and it feels like home:cool:

Thanks everyone for the help and the nice welcome. Lots of really useful information. Looks like October should be a good time to visit then, especially with a 4 and 5 year old. We'll be there from 3-17 October.:D

Mrs Dazzle - your info on St Pete's Beach is really helpful. Hubby and I went there when child free (about 10 years ago, so I guess it's changed quite a bit.) and really enjoyed it. We also stayed at the Holiday Inn which we loved. Didn't realise that the Sirata was next door:confused:

Anyway - any idea what will keep a 5 and 4 year old amused in the area - though I have figured the beach would be cool.

What about the Happy Hour you talk about, can you take kids in?
