I do not have kids, so I don't know about all of the school break things.

I keep hearing people mention October Break. When is this? Are there any other school breaks or events other than HHN that I need to know about for Sept & October?

I am planning a universal trip in September and WDW in October.

When my kids were in public school there was never a break in October.
They are now in college and they both get two days off (usually a Mon/Tues) in one of the first couple weeks of the month.

I teach in Alabama. My school gets an October (Fall) Break. It is October 13th-17th. My daughter's school only takes the Monday and Tuesday of the same week. I have no idea if Florida schools observe an October break.

Some districts give a longer time period, but most of the districts we have been in (3 in 3 separate states with our boys) got 2-3 days usually around a weekend in mid October (as mentioned before usually around the 12th/18th timeframe).

We are headed down towards the end of August for our trip because our boys don't start school until after Labor Day, but almost everyone that I know from other districts are starting school in mid August. It really does vary quite a bit from region to region.

In Arizona we get a week usually around Columbus Day and modified year round schools get two weeks then.

Alot of schools go year round so they get off in October for Fall Break..Many are around Columbus day but they can be anytime depending on the school and the district. Also keep in mind that Columbus day is also Canadian Thanksgiving, and many of our neighbors to north also come to Florida that week. You also have what is known as Hell week( when the locals also have off from school that week) Not sure when that is this year.

i could be wrong but think hell week for the parks starts the wednesday after columbus day.

i only pulled up one school district in orlando area and saw their break time.

i'm sure locals can correct me and list the break time for them.

Many schools in the USA are starting to get an October break, plus I know on the west coast there is a big teacher's convention that falls around the same time. It usually ends falling the week of October 13-17th.

I don't know about Florida, but it makes touring the parks on the west coast (California's Disney, Universal) hell during the middle of October. My husband and I used to take this week off for vacation every year because it fell on our anniversary, and the past five years we've stopped doing that because crowds at the theme parks became horrendous. Imagine going from walk ons of all the rides, no people, to wall to wall people with hour+ waits for rides, traffic to just get into the parks backed up. Plus having to deal with refurbs and rides being run at half capacity because its "off season."

Universal in Florida will probably be ok if you do one of the front of the line options though.

^^^ our experience too. We were spoiled by Disney having low crowds and no waits...even during food and wine. So, we've experienced it in Orlando too.
