October or December?

Dh wanted to go to Disney for Halloween, but I talked him into going for Christmas(so we can go to our families for Christmas also). We live in Alaska so I thought lumping 2 trips into one would be good, but now I am having second thoughts. I have been reading about it being busier and colder in December, but oh so pretty and festive. We will still go to our families for Christmas(so taking 2 trips is ok), but I think now I may want to go to Disney when it is warmer, less crowded and still decorated(for Halloween).

Dh won't help me decide cause he said he was excited about going for Halloween, took that away and got him excited about Christmas and now I am thinking of going back to Halloween.

So I turn to you wonderful folks...Halloween or Christmas??

Thanks,

Marlene

If you go the week prior to Christmas (up to about Dec 16) the crowds are not bad at all and the decorations are wonderful. The weather is tough to call (we had low 50's to mid 70's between Dec 10-17 this year) but it's a spectacular time of year to enjoy the parks. Then maybe you could go on to your family Christmas? October has the advantage of warmer weather but I've never found Halloween (except for MNSSHP) to be that big a deal.

We were there in December (1st to 11th) this year and had really nice weather --- highs in the 70's and 80's with very little humidity. The crowds weren't bad at all and the parks and resorts were beautifully decorated.

In 2003 we went in October and the weather was really warm --- high 80's, low 90's --- but the humidity was really high. Halloween is pretty much about MNSSHP at WDW --- nothing at the resorts to speak of. The Food and Wine Festival was something we really enjoyed.

I think the next time we go will be in early December again.

We spent a week in October and a week over Christmas at WDW this year. We experienced far larger crowds during our fall trip. The big plus to visiting in October is that you are guaranteed to have warm weather. Thus, if you want to visit the water parks; you will definitely be able to do so. Crowd-wide, December was fantastic! We did not experience any crowds until late afternoon on Christmas Eve. Even then, the walkways were more busy; but the wait times for rides was minimal. Fantasyland was absolutely empty up until 10:20 am on Christmas Day (I posted pictures of this just the other day), when we left for brunch at CM. The down side is that it is cooler. While we had temps in the 70's during the late afternoons, mornings and evenings were mitten and winter coat wearing COLD. My kids were determined to go swimming one afternoon. Honestly, I don't know how they were able to do it. The water didn't feel all that warm to me. (I'll try to post a picture of the lifeguard on that day.) We already are planning another Christmas trip for next year!!

Thanks everyone for the tip! Dh says we will probably end up going before Christmas! I had already made reservations for Dec. 12-19, 2006, but maybe I will bump them up a few days. That way we will be a few more days away from Christmas!

That picture of the lifeguard was great. Dh reminded me that he/she lives in Florida so that is why they are cold. Coming from Alaska :cold: it should seem pretty warm to us. I hope so cause I wear winter coats, gloves, etc for about 6 months out of the year...I don't want to do it on vacation in Florida :rotfl:

Thanks again for help!!
