Hi! We're just starting to plan our first trip for 2017. I wanted to go in August so we didn't have to take kids out of school but the ridiculous flight prices have changed our plans to October half term and a week either side (probably whichever is cheapest!)
I was just wondering if anyone could share the prices they have for similar dates.
We are 2 adults 3 kids (13,12 and 5)
I'm just trying to get rough prices in mind so I can budget for the big save!
Thank you in advance of any help xxx

Hi

For a very rough estimate, you could try looking at 2015 prices.

I had a quick look on Skyscanner.net (12+ as adults, and under 12 as children.)

I have used Gatwick as the departure airport.

19 October to 2nd November. Cheapest flights are with Delta (operated by Virgin Atlantic) flying direct to Orlando @ £784 each (£3,918 total).

26th October to 9th November. Cheapest flights are with US Airways (operated by BA) flying direct to Orlando @ £534 each (£2,669 total).

This is our 6th October halfterm in a row (DD gets 2 weeks off - week of half term proper and the week before). Direct Saturday flights are very high can be over £1000 with Virgin.

We go indirect from Manchester. I use skyscanner or kayak to check prices. I tend to book in December once flights are released.

This year we are out on the Weds 14th October and back 30th booked with opodo. Just over £500 each but direct with Virgin on way out and back with Virgin via Atlanta.
Last year we went on thomson dreamliner direct but only for a week before half term proper booked as a late deal 6 weeks out.
2013 we went with US airways Sat to Sat inc half term and week before for £500 each.
2012 we flew out Monday and came back Tuesday for just under £500 each.
2011 we went friday and flew back friday with US airways for £500 each.
2010 went friday with Virgin can't remember what we paid.
£500 each is what I consider ok.

We booked in Jan for 18th-31st Oct this year with BA it was approx £3500 for 2 adults and 2 children. The first time we had checked a few days earlier it was a few hundred pounds cheaper. There were only premium Virgin seats around by that point. Book as early as possible.

Thank you for your replies!
I'm really happy to know I should be able to get the flights for around the £500 mark, that is what I was hoping for.
More spending money!! :yay: xxx

Thanks for this- it was really helpful! :thumbsup2

Hi

The other thing to take in to consideration is the fine from the school if you take them out. Currently it £60 per child per parent so you will face a £360.00 fine for your three children.

pirate:

I understand my area Lancs isn't issuing fines until 10 absences (5 days) so this is putting even more pressure on the saturday flights, often there is an inset day tagged on to halfterm so only 4 days off to make a fortnight and no fine. I'd guess other areas are the same.

keep looking at august and check your sept returns date to school , we find great prices at the end of aug and the more days in to sept you can get the lower it drops , next year we are back in school on the 6th sept :0

for some reason i never find any deals for the october last year we had 2 week off for october half term ann i was hopefully we could sneak a disney trip in but didnt see any
