October half-term Questions

Hi, I am planning a trip in October 2012. I am thinking of going 28th Oct to 11th Nov or Oct 21st to Nov 4th. Our half-term week is Mon 29th to Fri 2nd, so one week would be during the school holidays. Can anyone think of any pros or cons with going the week before the school holiday or including the week after the holiday?

I know that the Food and Wine festival is on during this time and both the Halloween / Christmas parties. Are there any USA school/public holidays I should be aware of?

I remember the deal you got. I just want to check out the dates in case there is something obvious I'm missing. I know it's Veterans' Day on 11th Nov but I can't see anything else to be aware of.

Hiya

We have been ever year for the past 4 years for three weeks commencing the two weeks prior to the half term week except for last year (dont ask)

The first few days are always slightly busier due to Columbus Weekend, I seem to recall from past research that the majority of schools have a long weekend break.

I am also aware that Jersey week usually starts the week we come home which I understand can get really busy

All said we love october, 20 min waits max except for TSM of course Weather is perfect, crowds low, love it, love it, love it

We went October for the first time 2010 - last 2 weeks of October and it was a great time to go. Have booked for same time this Oct. I say this having been at various times of the year - Feb, July, Sept, Nov and Dec in the past.

US kids in the main do not get an autumn break. Brits were noticably a higher percentage than usual - I had a few conversations with people asking me why there were so many Brits around.

My DD gets 2 weeks off school for half term so obviously we go then.

I'd always read 'jersey week' was first week of November but touring plans is showing it as 7-12th Nov this year.

The schools in new jersey have a teachers conference so a lot of parents pull their kids out for a day or two and have a week off season at disney. The touring plans crowd calendar during jersey week goes from mainly 1 (i.e lowest crowd) last two weeks of October to 6 (middle busy - scale is out of 10).

Weather should be better Oct over November.

Don't want to start world war 3 re taking kids out of school but maybe better to miss the end of a topic/wind down at end of term rather than start of new term. My DD missed the last day of term as we flew on a friday - all she missed was a non uniform play with toys day and the harvest festival. I know all schools are different though.

Pros for last week oct/first week november would be you will be there for actual halloween and after halloween they start putting up xmas decorations. First MVMCP is 7th Nov - so timed right you could do MNSSHP and MVMCP.

we have been four times for October half-term (although we always have the last full week in October so the 24th onwards this year.

If like us two out of the four times you fly on half-term Saturdays then you will find that Gatwick airport is mad. Very busy in the restaurants, car parks and security. Also the flights are full.

Outside of these dates the flights are much more reasonable.

WDW is very quiet except for weekends at EPCOT duiring the Food and wine festival and MK over the nearest weekend to Halloween when the hordes descend.

If you are still there for the first week in November then it is 'New Jersey' week and while we have met some very nice families then we have in the main found that we are jostled and queue jumped more than usual (sorry if you come from NJ but that is what we have found).

We are going this year 30th October - 11th November and we are doing MNSSHP and MVMCP as well as food and wine so we are very happy

I think it is slightly cooler and less crowds, so we cant wait as we have never been this time of year
