We are planning a Southern California Vacation for this October, I was wondering if any of you would change the dates I have?

Sunday 10/12 = Sea World
Monday 10/13 = San Diego Zoo
Tuesday 10/14 = Local attractions (Beach)
Wednesday 10/15 = Disneyland
Thursday 10/16 = Disneyland
Friday 10/17 = Universal Studios
Saturday 10/18 = Disneyland
Sunday 10/19 = Depart for home

I have tried to optimize weekend times at Sea World and Disneyland in order to take advantage of later park hours and nightime shows only available on the weekends during this time of year.

Thank you in advance for your ideas!

HA HA those are the same dates we are going, except were not going to Universal studios as of yet. Gotta love Fall break. Where are you staying? Flying or Driving?

I was noticing that you are going to all the same places we did a few weeks ago. Are you using a Southern California City Pass? We thought they were a great deal and easy to use.

We are using the City Pass, we got them at Costco for a heck of a good deal... this is a first for us, since you just finished using them, is there any pointers you could offer in our behalf?

thank you

sorry to do it, but I have received a very kind PM, and cant respond because my post count is too low

SmoothDisney H20, I have read other post on this site that say October is a busy time of month at DL because Utah Schools were out on Fall Break! We thought we were being sneaky and heading there in an off time.... Oh well right!

I was there last october and i didn't find it busy at all.... most rides you could almost walk onto or there was a 5-10 minute wait... but you could tell when columbus day was because it was alot busier! We didn't know it was columbis day because were from canada... we were like oh yea its our thanksgiving but not theres so thats ok :confused3 ... Also someone posted about Gay Days being busy, but i was there for that and it wasn't anything to overwelming! i would just try to make sure your not going that weekend columbis, and you won't have to worry about lines to much!

our actual time at Disney will be the weekend after Columbus Day, so hopefully it will be ok?

we are planning a trip to San Diego in October with free mileage tickets (whoo hoo) and I have a few questions...

a) what are citypass tickets? how much are they? is there a difference between adult and kid tickets (actually our kids will be 13 and 16)
b) When are the gay days?

Thank you,

Kelly

We were there the week after Columbus Day, and it was swamped with people on Fall Break, and there for the Halloween parties. We found it busier then trips we've taken in July. I'd just get there EARLY, use fast passes, and be prepared for the crowds.

The city passes cover Sea World, San Diego Zoo, Universal Studios and 3 day park hopper at Disneyland. They have to all be used within 14 days of using the first ticket. You can find them at citypassdotcom just a FYI, you can get the adult passes for 50.00 less at costco and the kids pass are 25.00 less at costco.

As far as crowds being worse in October, this is a confusing topic, some have said they were there at that time and had no problems. Others have mentioned that it was more crowded than the summer time rush.... I personally feel if the latter were the case, Disneyland wouldnt have reduced operating hours in Ocotber? just my personal observation.

I think the time they are going is in between the busy times. The first two weeks are very busy but they are going after that. Accroding to my notes, after columbus day is when things calm down.

We've gone for my birthday for the last 3 years around the 3rd or 4th week and it has gotten busier each year. Weds and Thurs were good but Friday through Sunday was really busy (not summer busy though). I hope this year won't be as busy, I'll be there around the same time as the OP.

We used City Pass in 2006 and went to all the attractions, but we spread them over two and half weeks time. I noticed two things:

1. We were very tired at the end of it all and we had time in between when we visited relatives, etc. Now, we speed through theme parks at a very fast pace going from ride to ride to ride, so that may be why we were so tired, but be very cautious of this.

2. The sites are pretty close to each other. Are you driving? If so, leave extra early for traffic and, if you can, get hotels close to the attractions. We started in San Diego, so we stayed with family for SeaWorld and the Zoo. We took another few days then drove up to stay in Hollywood one night for Universal Studios. We visited/stayed with family up north and then stayed close to Disneyland. Whew, it was quite a trip! It was fun, but very intense.

It can work out, but the advice I would give is to make sure you take plenty of breaks, try to stay near the sites and, if not, plan it so you either leave early or arrive later on in the day to allow for traffic.

Does Universal Studios have night entertainment? If not, I would switch and do DL on Friday. It is impossible to see the Electrical Parade, Fireworks and Fantasmic with just one weekend night.

Thank you for your sugestion on changing to two weekend nights at DL, I wasnt aware that USH doesnt have night shows (after some e-searching), and with the ages of our kiddos, we would rather spend it introducing them to the after dark entertainment of DL since this will be their first visit!!
