October 31, 2009

I've not stayed on Deck 5 (by the time we hit this cruise, we'll have had 4 stays on Deck 6 between the Magic & Wonder), but Deck 5 is great too...it's convenient to the kids clubs and in the middle of the ship which becomes convenient when you're going to various places. Instead of waiting for the elevator, you can just take the stairs.

Thanks for the info. I've switched over to Deck 5. I also just looked at going the week before as well (leaving on the 24th). It's Eastern with a stop at St.Martn - my parents and sister & family, just got off the eastern St. Croix cruise we were supposed to be on and said that it seemed a lot rougher than the previous western one we'd done. They had been told it was because the ship has to go faster to cover more ground. Has anyone else ever experienced this? The cruise that leaves on the 24th (Oct) seems to be a little cheaper and we'd be going over my husband's birthday and our anniversary as well. BUT ... the cruise on the 31st will have all the Halloween fun pirate: and is a western one.

Any thoughts or advice??? We have two kids (dd8, ds10) and we want what would be the best cruise with the best ports for all of us. This NJ group along with a few others does seem like a lot of fun pixiedust: We're also planning on spending either the week before or after the cruise at WDW and would like to go at the least busy times. Again, any thoughts would be appreciated. After my daughter getting very ill and not getting to go on our Jan. 31st cruise ... October seems like forever away. We just need to make sure that her kidneys are okay before we travel ... so far so good.[/QUOTE]

Tony's is pretty decent. The thing I like about it is that the cast members there have given us their opinion of certain entrees. For example, I think they said to stay away from the lasange, but (obviously) recommended the spaghetti & meatballs and also the steak.

We just joined this cruise and are also on Deck 1. You've been down there before and it was okay? Last time we were on deck two and had the big window but there are no rooms left on deck two. We were supposed to be on the cruise that is currently sailing (January 21-Eastern) but our dd7 got really sick a week before we were supposed to leave and ended up in the hospital for a week :( Happy to say that she is doing much better :) but my parents and sister & her family are all sailing now which was a little disappointing. We are super excited to join the October 31st cruise - it looks like there is a lot happening :) Our two kids (dd will be 8 then, and ds will be 10) will be happy to know that there is going to be some Halloween fun on the ship.

We're not from NJ either ... but the Canadian cold. So looking forward to joining everyone on this trip even if the rest of my extended family won't be there.

Ditto on us. First cruise, deck 1, early seating. But we ARE from NJ. Please don't hold that against us

....it's raining down here in Dallas Texas but hey....it gives me more the reason to continue to put together my FE gifts for all of us. :yay: It's a slow process but its turning into quite a labor of love for me. Anway.....Dawn - yes - thank you for the tip about Tony's as I have decided on MNNSH party on Friday October 30th (at MK) followed by 1900 Faire character breakfast at the Grand Floridian hotel the next morning. So, Tonys will give me an opportunity to still stay inside MK and enjoy what I didn't get a chance to see last month (Hall of Presidents, Splash Mtn and hey.....gotta have my Disney rice crispy treat dipped in chocolate! YUM :goodvibes ). But.......
I have got Diane from Air deviations dept "breathing down my neck" asking me for my choices for airline departures so....I am going to be pushing out my American Airlnes departure for as late as possible for Nov 7th.....but have to ask you a question. Have you been to Kennedy Space Center???? What's it like??? admission cost?? You can tell I am coordinating a car rental that day but just need a little guidance here :teacher: please.

Keeping it real down here in Dallas.
Now....back to nibbling on the rest of my key lime cookies (YUM!) -

Do people ever meet up before the cruise? Is it too far away to even be considering this? At the time of the cruise my DS will be 7 and DD 4. It would be great for them to meet some kids before the cruise so they have a familiar face when they go to the camp.

Absolutely! In the past cruises I've done, we met in the promenade lounge around 3pm.

Dawn, thanks, but I wasn't referring to meeting on the cruise, that is a given.
I was talking about meeting before the cruise. Like weeks/months before the cruise.

Jersey week is official (at least in my district). We just found out that they approved the school calendar for 2009/2010. My kids are off from school on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (the 3rd, 5th and 6th). So they only have to miss Monday and Wednesday.
I just stinks that the airlines have started to know this and are raising prices just for that week in the NJ area.

Oh (DUH)... :) That, we've never done...but then again we weren't talking about a cruise where a good# of the folks were from NJ. :)

WOW, already?! We get the calendars around April (ish)...they typically have the whole week off so hopefully that'll be the case since I'd really prefer they not miss school...but if they do, they do...I ain't cancellin'! :rotfl:

ON A TOTALLY SEPARATE NOTE...We just got the cruise docs for our 3-nighter coming up 3/5/09. WHOO HOO!

We got our calendar today as well. We are off the whole week again-woo hoo!

Hey...if anyone is needing any rain up there - just call me and I will "fax" ye some cuz WOW - did we ever get a rain storm blowing through in the Dallas Texas area. :scared1: Even my Dog "Ladybug" (a Beagle) hated the rain.
Anyway - have a Magical day as I am just stopping on by to say "Hi." :goodvibes

due to the issue that I will not be leaving CBR until approx 12:3opm on Saturday October 31st - I will not be arriving onto the Disney Wonder until approx 2 / 2:30pm that same day. So....just throwing out an idea here:

If there are anyone of you who would like to have a small get together...say right after 2nd seating dining on day one - we all meet somewhere THEN head off & see a show of some sorts...please feel free to give me a holler (or even pm me if ya want) as I am a night owl and will be seeing a show or two before calling it a day around 1-1:30 am every night.
We did this on the Disney Wonder last month and had a total blast seeing a show every night (10pm) and enjoyed the conversation from one & all.
Again, this is just a suggestion - not meant to step on anyone's toes here who wants to do a meet and greet at 3pm on day one. :goodvibes

I keep browsing this board for someone to post that they will booked the October 31, 2009 Western Cruise. So, I decided to post and hope that someone, anyone, out there would be happy to meet up. We are very excited as this will be our first Disney cruise! We are confirmed in the Roy Disney suite. We hope to hear from someone soon!!!!

We will be going too! This will be our first cruise as Vacation Club Members. We joined on the 10-2007 cruise. That was the year there was a big hurricane so we missed Castaway Cay! We are a family of 4 with two boys, ages 12 and 9 (13 & 10 on sail date) We are all very excited. You will love your room! We had a balcony and thought that was awesome!:tinker:

We are going early to so we can make it to the Kennedy Space Center. I went to the website and you can print out the tickets there. I believe it was $39 for adults for a two day pass - not bad! Have fun!

Just booked my airfare. Airtran out of phl. $151 p/p R/T which includes picking seats now. Don't normally do that but I am anticipating this will be a full flight and didn't want to chance not being with the kids. RUN!!!

Separately...
Night owls. Might be fun. :)

The individual that suggested getting together before the cruise... We are in so. Jersey so we could do up to bordentown(ish) like chickie and pete's or down to like voorhees.

Dawn,
What flight did you book for the way back? The latest flight they have posted is 11:45am and that is too early. Everyone says that anything before 12:30 is just to risky.
Also, are you flying down to Orlando on Friday or Saturday?

Flying down Friday. Thinking about maybe doing MNSSHP if they have it on the 30th and then driving over to cape canaveral that night. Flt 629 going down. Kids would miss school that day.

Yes 11:45 flight but on Sunday not saturday.

Hope that helps. :)

I'm chiming in here about this airfare talk. I live in Central NJ and it's closer to fly from Newark, but the cheapest non-stop flights I find is Continental $328 pp before fees. For the four of us it would be about $1300-$1400. I found the Airtran flights from Philadelphia and we could all fly non-stop for about $556 with all fees. I've never flown on Airtran before? Do you think it's worth it to save that amount of money? Philadelphia would be about 1 1/4 drive for us. Plus we would have to park there for the week. We would fly down Thursday or Friday to try and do KSC as well. Any thoughts???

ABSOLUTELY!!! We've flown airtran many times. They're decent. Not as big as continental or usair but still a good airline

Dawn, I wanted to thank you for the flight information!!!!! We just booked our flights for the cruise. We are flying in Saturday morning and flying home on the same flight as you on Sunday.
We couldn't pass up the prices.
Thanks again!
