October 30, 2011 Wonder - A Haunting on the High Seas

Hi Everyone,

I too have just spent the last hour reading this entire thread. Lots of good stuff! This is our first family cruise and we can't wait. We live in Huntington Beach, our girls are 11 and 12 and one of their birthdays is a few weeks before the cruise and the other is a few weeks after the cruise so we are going to celebrate them together on the ship. I haven't seen much talk about a group magnet and since we came in a little late on the t-shirt votes, we were wondering if someone could make a magnet using the cute design on page 6. I have no idea how that would work and if this is a crazy request I understand. (But if you don't ask, you don't get. Right?) My girls love the FE idea. I'm not very crafty but my aunt is coming to town and she loves that kind of stuff. I figure I'll buy the supplies and she can help me put it together. If it doesn't turn out.... e-bay here we come. We thought about surprising the girls with the cruise, but I am sooo glad we didn't. We have had a great time and the excitement has built up so much from buying magnets, clothes shopping, looking for cruise pins to trade, thinking of FE gifts, looking at past navigators, looking at shore excursions, the list goes on. I look forward to meeting everyone. I'm glad it's a small group so I'm not so overwhelmed. Thanks again for all the imput.

Cathy and Robert

I don't know if we have a "group logo" I had posted a number of different concepts for magnets etc. I had made a few and one really nice one I had asked Jordak to design for us. If you haven't seen them, they are on page 6 & page 7 of this thread. I have them on Flicker, in my public folder, if you need help finding them, let me know. You can get magnet paper, in different sizes, on line or at some place like Office Depot. You just print them out from your computer. I've used my officejet printer and they came out really well. The magnet paper is not cheap but not to much. You can also order them from Vista Prints. You just go to their website and follow the instructions for inserting your picture and ordering. I am sure there are other sites out there that would do it too.

Cathy, Robert, Cindy & Mike, regarding the shirts, I don't think you've missed anything. Molly, Dizfitch had found a great deal on having them made and offered to take care of everything. I have to admit being guilty of not responding to her after she made the generous offer. Molly, is there are minimum order number for the shirts? Do you have an exact cost? Be sure to include shipping, tax, setup cost etc, I wouldn't want you stuck with the cost as well as the work. Do you have a deadline on when we would have to order? I think you were planning on using Jordaks design, the Ghost Ship, am I correct? Did your printer give you a mockup we could see or was he using the Flicker print? If ordering them from Molly's contact is no longer possible, we can setup something with Vista Prints and you can order from them. I can put the image out there and you could order the shirts. Vista Prints is on Ebates so you might get some good deals that way - I never pay the first listed price from them for anything.

I am still waiting to hear from Dorothy, at DCL, regarding the mixology private tasting. She is on vacation until the first week of August. Also, they usually don't start approving and scheduling special requests until 30 days before a cruise and after the cruise director team completes their schedule.

For those interested in the Champagne Girls, because we will be doing it on my verandah, we can wait to schedule it later, once we know when there is an open time.

DISboard friends from past cruises are on the MR cruise the first of October. Corinna does a great cruise report and has offered to get us up to date navigators for us to use in planning our trip at the end of the month. She'll also report on what changes they make to the Wonder while in dry dock in September. I have heard they are revamping Parrot Cay and enclosing the aft area on deck 9, outside Beach Blanket Buffet.

Stefanie, thanks for the recommendation regarding the Double Tree, they have a great deal which would allow us to park there should we decide to drive down from San Francisco rather then fly. Bob is leaning toward driving. He said it would be better due to all the 'junk' I insist on packing, the pirate costumes, my formal wear, the FE stuff etc. I reminded him we are staying at the Grand California after and they will charge as much as an airplane ticket to park there, but we'll see. I hate that 7 hour drive down highway 5 and although beautiful highway 1 takes forever.

Hope you all have a great weekend.

I second the welcome! for those just joining is and I was wondering if we had yet considered a cut off deadline for FEs for our group? I would propose about a month before so we can finish making/ordering everything in time for the cruise.

Also how are we planning on handling us GTYers? Share cabin #s as they come and then at the meet for those that don't get them before we arrive? Also DH and I are going to try for a port upgrade if no pixie dust happens with our room assignment beforehand so our cabin could change when we get there as well.

Hey all!

Any other GTYers checking the Disney Cruise page every day (multiple times) to see if you have a cabin yet? I hope we have one before we leave!! 90 days to the cruise 85 days til we are in Disneyland!! :woohoo:

I keep checking but no changes yet!

When I was GTY on our TA cruise I checked every day too. I think we got our assigned cabins about 45 days out. I was told it could be any time after the final payment date but never before. Don't know if that is true or not. Good Luck with the wait, I know it is difficult.

For those who may be changing their cabin number at the port and for distributing other info, we could have someone put a small white board on their door for messages and updates. I would volunteer our room but it is all the way back as far as you can go and still be on the ship. I've had the white board on my door before but only when I was in a cabin mid-ship.

I'll volunteer our door! We're still on Deck 7 but more midship now. If this is too out of the way, that's quite alright! :thumbsup2

Great - I have used magnetic white boards, 8 x 11, that had disney designs on them. I got them at target for $1. Anything you use would be fine.

Thanks for offerring.

I feel like I am late to the party!! I just booked for this cruise on Friday for myself and my DS3, Jack. We are first timers to DCL and so this is a real learning curve for me! I plan on going back and reading through the thread, and I added myself to the list, but I am definitely interested in doing a FE (but have no clue how, what etc) and I would love to get a shirt as well! I am also curious as to what, if anything, they do to celebrate Halloween on board. Halloween is my favorite holiday!

I am up for the shirt too. Are they being shipped to us ahead of time or will Molly just bring them with her and distribute on the first day of the cruise? Won't we all look smart in our matching shirts?

I too would be interested in the t-shirts, so Molly do please let us know when you will need sizes.

Hi,I was away this week...
Is anyone overseeing the fish extenders yet?
you know,making the lists?
also...the tee shirts?:wizard:

Hi Cindy! I know I usually recommend the Double Tree in San Pedro. That's where my fiance (then husband) & I will be staying as it has a free shuttle to the port & back. On the first page of this thread you will find a link to a Google document that you can add your family's info to. The shirt info isn't out yet, but I'm sure it will be soon.

Happy planning! pirate:

Thanks again for the recommendation on the Double Tree. I reserved a marina room, breakfast, 2 drink tickets, parking for the duration of the cruise, shuttle to and from the port for $214. I think that is a great deal. Maybe we can meet up and use those drink tickets that evening?

The FE list is on Val's spreadsheet listed in the first post. So far we have 13 cabins (11 families) listed, which seems like a manageable number to me.

Hello everyone! I haven't been on the boards for awhile.... But I'm happy to see many have joined us since then! Does anyone else have a DD8?
We got our welcome aboard postcard from DCL last week and we're so excited! I arranged for a telephone call from Goofy to my daughter :thumbsup2

There are so many things to think of still... I have to call and change our 1st seating to 2nd seating (dinner), What to wear for formal and semi formal night, what costume to wear (just my DD), which excursions to book and I have to make a ressie for Palo! :scared1:

Im sure everyone here is just as excited!! Woot!

Also, what do you use the FE for? Is it a must have? The last time we cruised, my DD received a birthday card from Snow White and it was left on the fish. Which seemed fine. Does the crew leave gifts and such for those with fish extenders?

Mostly cruisers exchange gifts with each other. If you sign up for the FE list you will get gifts from your fellow cruisers on this meet thread and you agree to give gifts to us as well.
