October 26, 2013 HalloWonder Cruise

Sorry for all my posts forgot to use the multi quote button! Just an idea for trick or treat I love the stateroom idea but unless they are close together the kids won't get to all the rooms. I just know this from delivering my fe on my last cruise it takes a while to find each room lol!
On our last cruise they we able to reserve a private outlook room for the disboards group it was free but no clue how they did it. If we figure it out we could set up stations around the room and it would be private so you wouldn't have non members in there. Just an idea for the kiddos to get the most out of it... I can contact the lady from my last cruise and find out how she reserved it if you like?

Kristen, that would be good to understand how they did it. It's hard to judge how much distance we would have to cover on the ship. Glad you've got that experience! :-)

Another option is that because we're in 2 BR suite we'll have access to a concierge CM via phone about 120 days before our sail date. One of the perks mentioned for concierge is help with planning special occasions. I can see what assistance they could offer in finding a way to do our own ToT. We're a low maintenance family so this would be the extent of any complex requests from them. That person may also be able to provide insight on what's planned for Halloween in general.

That's awesome! Can't wait to see pics of your room!

I was wondering how you were getting all of your family into one room! That is going to be amazing!!!! I wanna see pics too! I bet you will have luck with conciege helping for sure for a room! I sent a message to my last cruise host as well. At least we will have some options to look into! :cool1:

We had a couple options for what we'd do from a stateroom perspective but I decided to go for it and get the suite. Unless we have some long lost rich great uncle who dies and leaves us a fortune, this will likely we the one and only time we do a suite, or concierge for that matter. Looking at Alaskan cruises we'll be lucky if we can afford a stateroom with a veranda! I need to look into how GTY works.

If you're interested in seeing the suite itself, I'd be glad to designate a day and time to have those interested stop by and take a look. I'm curious myself as there are very few pictures of it.

On my Carnival cruise over Spring Break, they did a cabin crawl. I didn't end up participating because my boyfriend didn't want to, but it sounded really neat. One morning on a sea day they went to several different room categories just to check it out. Would anybody be interested in that?

Par-Ty! Par-Ty! :rotfl:

Sure! We are a 4E - deluxe family stateroom with verandah.... Room 8594 and my parents are a 7 - stateroom with Navigator verandah. We can fit all five of us in our room but plan to send one kid to sleep with Gram and Pawp each night because when the third pull out bed is out it blocks the verandah door and I want to sit on my verandah with my wine at night!

You got that right!!! DH will be, "Who are all these people?" and I'll be, "Honey, remember that DIS group I told you about on the Internet?" He's still trying to understand the concept of FE! :lmao:

A crawl would be fun! I would love to see what the Navigator verandah looks like.

Yeah, and my hubs is wondering why, if we decided to cruise a few weeks after our friends to avoid having a "friend vacation" rather than a "family vacation" that I am making new friends! ha!

Cat, just realized you are from Aurora... I lived there for a bit growing up. I went to Arrowhead Elementary.

We've done this on a CCL cruise - the first CCL Magic cruise out of Galveston and it was fun! :) Loved seeing all the different types of cabins available. popcorn::

So when you meet people and they ask about your kids do you get that same wide-eyed, mouth-dropping reaction when you tell them their ages? I do. Makes me crazy sometimes but I've gotten used to it. And it's not so uncommon any more. We have a couple parents at the kids' school in the same situation.

You should see the reactions we get with no kids... LOL Usually it is "I'm sorry" and I always say nicely "I'm not." :rotfl: Anything different than the normal is questioned but that is ok and understandable. Just happy as we are and I'm sure you are too. :yay:

So funny you said this about meeting people ahead of time. Hubby always questioned me too :confused3 but it adds to the fun of the cruise so much which he has found and is nice to know that you at least kind of know someone else on board. Unlike if close friends go with us they end up attached at the hip and that gets awkward when you run around the ship! :rotfl: :upsidedow

I heard from my last cruise friend and this is what she did:

Here is how I got our room for the group meet. I went to the Disney Cruise website and put in a request for a group meeting place. It will ask you how many people and what kind of food do you want. In the comments section you can tell them exactly what you need. If you don't have food and drinks it will be free for the meeting place. if you can't find the form on the website call them and they will help you find it. Once you submit your request you will get an email from the person in charge of group meets and a phone call to confirm.

So this is for sure an option!

Do you have a review and pics of the cruise over Halloween on the Wonder? What all did Disney do for Halloween? Any tips on Castaway Cay?
I will have to go back and look through the Navigators for our 2012 Wonder Halloween cruise.

Castaway Cay is one of our most favorite stops. We like to find a spot on the beach with a hammock in the shade for my hubby and a sunny spot for myself. We usually hang out at the first family beach you come to. The second family beach, by the water slide is usually more crowded. Don't worry, they have over 4,000 lounge chairs, enough to go around. Our girls are getting older (13 & 15) and have free range of the island. They know where we are, and are given times to meet up with us.

When our girls were younger, we would spend the morning with the girls, snorkeling, building sand castles or swimming, have lunch, then check them into the kids club on the island. We would then rent bikes or take a walk, or head over to the adult only beach. There is so much to do, or nothing to do! Let me know if you have any questions about Castaway Cay!

Yes- exactly!!! Close friends are hard to ditch when you just need your family time! Also, I admit, I can't trust myself not to spend too much time enjoying the drink of the day with my peeps and forgetting to drag my kids from the clubs to hang with me!!!! hehe

This sounds great to me... I am up for either the stateroom to stateroom ToT or this option.

Our last cruise we met in the Promenade lounge at 3pm. Gives us time for a meet and greet before the muster drill. Also, If anyone has changed rooms or upgraded at check-in, a master list can be updated and all participants can make the change to their lists. It also is a great time for parents to introduce kids the same ages.

Good observation. I guess the people who get the free pass on weird looks are the ones that have their two or three children in a 5 year time span. My mother-in-law had 7 kids in a 9 year time span. :scared1:

We've never traveled with friends and I think that's probably why, to avoid the awkwardness. I'm an introvert which means I enjoy being around people but only for a certain amount of time, even friends. One of my friends was surprised to hear I was an introvert because I can come off very outgoing. However, in a management class I was in many years ago the way the instructor defined the difference between introverts and extroverts is that the extrovert gets their energy being around people while introverts feel their energy drained and need to go off somewhere quiet to recharge. On the cruise I expect the verandah to be my recharging station.......with a nice tropical cocktail in hand! :-)
